I've watched multiple videos on YouTube where people complain about Sombra not being "DPS friendly" (these coming from Stylosa, Lone Hawk and Force.)
The four classes are as listed:
Offense
Defense
Tank
Support
Where is the DPS category?I don't see one. Offense characters are supposed to be played with a OFFENSIVE play style, whether it'd be flanking, harassing or just a general offense play style.
What I think people are not getting about Sombra is that she was made to be a DPS hero but a true harasser and or flanker. The mindset where offense means DPS is completely stupid and people really need to think about it.
Just because all the offense heroes can do considerable amounts of damage doesn't mean all the new ones have to be the same archetype. If that was the case than all the offense heroes would become bland.
Edit 1: Seems like a lot of people agree with me on the "all offense heroes don't have to be DPS based heroes" part of the thread, everyone is talking about Sombra.
When I wrote this, I had not played Sombra yet, being on console I've only watched videos. Now I have played as her and I really don't know what to think about her. Her abilities are some of the best in the game being able to shut down other people's abilities is amazing and invisibility is great too. What I think the problem is, is that she's a hero with abilities that are great for using on heros who rely on abilities but she is ALSO a hero that relies on abilities. If you get hacked as Sombra, consider yourself dead.
That's my opinion on her, a hero that is great for abusing heroes who rely on abilities but also not great when she does not have abilities. So, Sombra's true counter is an enemy Sombra?? Idk

Well I get offended when 5 of my teammates choose offensive heroes... so I guess most of them do their job.

6 RepliesI'm glad people think she's bad, she's skill based right now and I'm all for it. Hopefully she doesn't get buffed like crazy. She's a game changer for me right now. I escorted a payload while the enemy team thought it was okay to sit in my spawn. She's a good counter to people using cheap tactics.

3 RepliesEdited by shell: 11/16/2016 8:28:34 PMHarassing... as in giving their healers ultimate charge and rarely getting meaningful kills? No, she sucks at harassing. Her only useful purpose is to hack medkits and kill anyone who wants to use them due to her immortal medkit hack. Which won't work for long. Once people get used to seeing Sombra they will know not to go to certain health packs, which my team is already doing, making Sombra completely useless. Hard to believe people thought she was overpowered.

19 RepliesEdited by Upperclass Bum: 11/16/2016 8:50:12 PMCan we instead talk about the fact people use things like "dps" as a word itself, rather than an abbreviation? Makes no sense in the context of how it's used sometimes... I remember back when I played lolDestiny, during the Crota raid people would shout shit like, "start dps'ing Crota". Like, -blam!- what? Start damage per seconding Crota? No, just no... Edit:
Nowhere in this post did I say or imply that "dps" or its usage, both correct and incorrect are a new or recently started thing. I used Destiny as an example 'cause it's the most current / recent game I played where I actually communicated with people and would hear it being misused quite often - I'm sure if I actually took the time to talk with people on games like Smite, I'd hear it a lot more, along with shit like, "dot him" or "aoe that team fight"... So -blam!- off Furthermore, I never said or implied it's a big deal, so if you're going to come at me with that too, then again, -blam!- off. When said, can we talk about how people misuse "dps" as a word itself, I wasn't making that misuse out to be a big deal, no. I was trying to see if other people have noticed it. But yeah, no... Good job responding with the exact same shit as if you can't expand the sub-thread and see someone else already made your point all while missing mine... What was already a slightly off topic comment got derailed further, so with this, I'm done.
2 RepliesAlthough I agree on the whole DPS thing, one poibt I cant let slip is that just because she is in the offense category, doesn't mean she should be played offensively. Like Widowmaker being in the Defense, I find a great Offense Widow is better than a defensive one. And Roadhog, the only thing keeping him in the tank section is his massive healthpool. He's just an offensive character with 600Hp. Sombra I feel is more of a defensive flanker, if you know what I mean.

1 ReplyWe have the same issue on paladins: Support- area denial and healing Flank-high agility- focuses on key targets Offense- need i say more Front lines- huge hp/defensive ability, so have solid fighting skills (ruckus has one of the best dps, doing 120~ in a second when spun up) The amount of idiots ive seen rush head on as flankers, or dont heal as support (with the exception of grover, as 40% of his is passive) And this is why i dont do comp. Think id have a knightmare playing ow, with full teams of characters

1 ReplyNo matter what anyone says reaper is a defender He may do good on attack but he 10x more useful on defense

My buddy plays Reinhardt as a dps hero and can usually pull gold damage and gold eliminations, especially if there is a competent Ana.

18 RepliesDps in overwatch encompasses all offensive and defensive characters, with some exceptions/additions. Its not an archtype, but it exists. The actual archtypes (offense, defense, tank, support) don't mean much. Its a generalization of roles, but doesn't outright define how you operate. Zenyatta is in the support role, but he's higher damaging than many offense and his healing is poor. Me I is a defense character, but her high survivability and high threat makes her almost a tank. It means very little. The issue with sombra currently is that she really can't play the flanker/harrasser role very well. Her damage is abysmal, her abilties as a whole make her very defenseless, and in the higher tiers of play she has little staying power. Tracer can basically do the same job but he much more effective in the current state. Her only true benefit as a flanker is the ability to pick off low health targets very well (though the fact that she can't shoot or hack while coming out of steath hurts this a lot). On the other side of the coin, she excels at area control and denial due to her powerful healthpack hack. At this point, the team with the most healthpack controlled has the best advantage, and usually wins. What they need to do is increase her damage slightly, while decreasing the healthpack hack time to maybe 40-45 seconds. She doesn't need to shred like tracer, but she should be competent in a 1v1. She can't rely on any of her abilities in the middle of a firefight, and her low damage plus high spread makes it difficult to kill enemies, so as she is she can't even play the roll of infiltrator all too well. More damage would help her immensely.
