FULL AKSIS CHALLENGE MODE GUIDE - STAND ON YOUR DAMN PLATES STRATEGY
GENERAL PRINCIPLES MECHANICS AND OBJECTIVES
The challenge mode adds a tiny mechanic that was often overlooked when dealing with Aksis - that of Empowerment Discharge.
Whenever a player is Empowered, he can either slam Aksis to stun him, or "discharge" that empowerment and refill the fireteam's supers. This is done by standing on one of the three Servitor plates (left, right, back middle) and holding Square (PS4) or X (Xbox).
- Whenever Aksis teleports, ONE plate is made active (lights up with bright red flames, much like when Servitors are moving towards it).
- The active plate can never be on the same side Aksis teleports to, but it can be on the same side Aksis teleported from.
- Let's say Aksis is at left side, then he teleports to the right side. The active plate this time around can never be on the right side; it can either be on the middle, or on the left side.
- The middle plate constitutes both front middle and back middle teleport locations. This means it will never be active if Aksis teleports *to* front middle or back middle.
- The plate/discharging can only be done before Aksis is slammed/stunned. If a player slams too early, others won't be able to discharge.
The Challenge Mode mechanic is that an empowered player must discharge on an active plate -EVERYTIME- Aksis teleports. You cannot miss a single discharge, or a single slam - as doing so will fail the challenge.
This means for every "round", you'll have three discharges, and three slams.
- Killing him in two cycles is -not- required, but it is recommended to lessen any future mistakes that can happen as the fight becomes more prolonged.
- Using X-number of pillars is not part of the mechanic.
- You don't need to kill all Servitors, but you need to throw as many bombs as possible to break the shield (3 in normal, 7 on heroic).
--------------------------------
HOW TO DO THE ACTUAL STRATEGY "Stand on your Damn Plates"
Please refer to this hastily made MS Paint image of the boss' room.
As you can see, you'll want one Empowered player for the left, right and middle. These players must be standing on the following spots:
- Left empowered stands near the edge of the left plate
- Right empowered stands near the edge of the right plate
- Middle empowered stands just below the ledge that has the middle plate
These players will look IN FRONT OF THEM and HOLD SQUARE (PS4) OR X (XBOX). Well except for middle empowered because he's not standing on an actual plate, but you get the idea...
-----------------------------
For LEFT and RIGHT Empowered:
- Look in front of you if the boss teleported to your side. If he did, run up, jump, slam him ASAP. You will have enough time.
- Note that the pillar may block a full view of Aksis but you'll see half his entire body and his spider legs anyway.
- If he did not teleport to your side, stay on that plate and keep holding down Square/X. You should be able to discharge.
- If he did not teleport to your side and you weren't able to discharge after a couple of seconds, don't worry. It means he teleported somewhere else and another player did a discharge. You'll also see the "supercharge" pop-up at the bottom left of the screen.
- Shoot the bastard.
For MIDDLE Empowered:
- Look in front of you if the boss teleported to front mid. If he did, run up, jump, slam him ASAP. You will have enough time.
- If he did not teleport to front mid, turn around and look - he either teleported behind you, or the plate is the one that's active. Slam/Discharge ASAP.

YOU SHOULD NOT BE STANDING ON THE BACK MIDDLE PLATE ITSELF BECAUSE THE BOSS CAN TELEPORT THERE AND SQUISH YOU SO STAY AT THE SPOT BELOW THE PANEL'S LEDGE!
-----------------------------
AKSIS ALREADY TELEPORTED FROM X-SIDE, AND I AM EMPOWERED ON X-SIDE
- If you're Left or Right Empowered (he just came from left or right, whatever side you're on), stand on the plate and remember to hold Square/X so that you can discharge immediately.
- If you're Middle Empowered and he came from Front Mid on the previous teleport, again, he's either behind you, or the active plate is there - so you should be looking there.
- If you're Middle Empowered and he came from Back Mid on the previous teleport, look in front first to see if he teleported there. If he did not, look behind and see if the plate is active there.
- Remember that the active plate can be on the side where he came *from*.
-------------------------------------
PROS AND CONS:
(1) That's all there is to it. Your job as an Empowered Guardian is simply stay put on a specific position and look in front (as well as do a quick glance behind you if you're at the middle).
(2) Even if players are switching sides during the DPS phase, you won't get confused, because you know where you need to be standing on for whatever side you're switching to --- left and right are on plates, middle is below the plate's ledge.
(3) The active panels are discharged almost immediately. No one needs to look which panel lights up, no one needs to call it out. It lessens the confusion and keeps the chat a lot clearer.
(4) If you're on left and slamming left, then right has instantly discharged, or middle has enough time to turn around then discharge. If you're on right and slamming right, same thing. If you're on middle slamming front or back mid, then left or right have instantly discharged.
(5) If you're slamming, you don't need to check your screen if "supercharge" occurred, or hear someone call out that they've discharged. You don't need to stand on Aksis' back and wait. You just run and slam (like in regular modes). The timing is virtually -perfect- for everything your team needs to do.
(6) Did I mention that you don't even need to look around as a team for which panel is active? You don't even need to look down at the plates if you're at the left or right (you're just holding down a button). That removes most of the problems with the fight.
(7) None of those weird *"I thought the panel was active but it wasn't; it was glowing because of the Servitor"* moments. Aksis teleports, the servitors disappear, a plate is made active, empowerment discharge happens - the end.
(8) Perhaps an even more amazing thing - you are not running back-and-forth, or looking around for glowing panels - this means less confusion for *you*.
(9) Oh, as for DPS - you actually have a *CLEAR LINE OF SIGHT* to shoot Aksis' head from these spots while waiting for the next teleport. Since you're not looking around randomly, you're spending that time doing damage. More damage = more fun!
(10) You're standing on a spot, holding a button or just LOOKING IN FRONT OF YOU! How hard can it be? There's no need for scenarios wherein - *"If X goes left, then Y must go right, and Z goes round and round"* - nope, none of that. You handle a specific side, standing on a specific spot, running to a specific location, or holding a specific button.
Simply put, this makes the entire challenge mode simplified and effective for players of varying skill levels - hence "Easy Mode".
As for cons... well, I cannot think of any outside of a runner hitting a wall on the way to Aksis - but that's just silly.
-----------------------------
ADDITIONAL TIPS:
(1) Just like on regular/non-challenge modes, if multiple players are empowered on a specific side, call it out, have one person switch to a side that needs an empowered player immediately. The minor difference is that, remember, once you switch to another side, you want to be in the positions outlined above.
(2) Middle may seem trickier because you need to cover two spots, but it's essentially one in front and one close behind you. All you need to do any way is look in front most of the time. *If Aksis did not teleport there, or he just came from there, glance behind you for a moment*. If it does become problematic, then it's with the player and not with the tactic itself. I would advise that you place *"two of your more focused players"* in the middle, as they can cover it more often (outside of neither of them getting empowered). But, like I said, it's a very minor issue.
(3) If you're not empowered, you should be calling out where Aksis teleports to as quickly as possible. Look at that red smoke/trail he leaves behind whenever he's teleporting.
(4) Because Supers get recharged immediately every discharge, use them as often as possible. Just remember that the third/final stun is the longest, and you want to have a "sequence" for those Nightstalker tethers to maximize DPS.
(5) For the third/final stun, get those Dark Drinkers out. Have a Titan pop bubble at Aksis' feet and wail away at him happily.
(6) Don't forget for Warlocks to use Viking Funeral and chuck those grenades every chance they get to add more damage for the team.
(7) If Aksis' health is really low but he has not reached his *"Insta-Wipe Cast"* moment (5% health), do the discharge and slam - but tell everyone NOT TO SHOOT AT HIM WHILE THIS IS BEING DONE, AND NOT TO THROW ADDITIONAL BOMBS. This is because if he is damaged below the threshold (making him go to his *"Insta-Wipe Cast"* moment), the discharge/slam will not register, and the challenge will fail. Do your shooting after the discharge/slams occurred.

2 RepliesGotta be honest here, I havent completed it this week. Tried it with a couple of LFG groups but most people couldnt get the hang of it. In the one group where we never missed a supercharge we unfortunately also had some weird lag - to the point that we sometimes stod on his back for a good 1-2 s without anything happening. I was the first one it happened to so I got a bit of shit for it. Then a second person also got it followed by general latency on the shanks so people realized that it was indeed a game issue. Feels like there's been way more latency and BS going on since the last patch.

Edited by Ve7n00m: 11/10/2016 7:32:14 AMI find if you just shoot the bad guys and make the boss go zoom zoom, you can dunk the funk on him real quick with a slam. As long as the carrot on the plate isn't a potato you'll make him go ''urrrrrrrrrrgh'' real easy like!
-
Im going to start pushing groups to do it this way even without the challenge active. You can pump out so much DPS with a tether/bubble/cannons on each of the three stuns.

6 RepliesOk we ran into the issue where you overdamage him, he teleports to final stand before a supercharge and stun. Completed killing him on final stand and then no ornaments..... Now to be fair after doing this once on Tuesday with zero efforts, last nights raid was full of wipes. I mean it was bad. Got me thinking "all this for an ornament???" That I need silver dust to even apply???? Hmmmmm
-
Interesting method, if I get a really bad team I might give this method a go.

1 ReplyEdited by BRYVZEE: 11/9/2016 9:51:15 PMWhat I found is that on both left and right sides there's some yellow warning strips marked on the floor. Standing within these marks gives you the perfect travel time in order to hit the supercharge and the stunt in sync. Mid like you mentioned needs to stand on the gray floor area in order to comfortably get both front and back. (not on the diamond: you won't be able to get front or it'll be a rush) It also works really well if you're team leader and like to keep an eye on your fire team members and calling out with an eagle's eyes, you just need to be positioned in the exposed (closer to mid) part of this marked section. Also if you have some "slippery" (not so great) players running mid, once you see your plate isn't active you can rush to that mid empowerment in case of an emergency. (Middle needs to be able to hold on both front and back, but it's just a cautionary measure) And I love how warlocks do in this challenge too. In the mentioned position Warlocks get such an advantage because they can hold the stunt a little longer in order to allow their team to reach the plate by gliding over Aksis for a sec. I've already done it with two of my characters, and the basis of this strategy is what you need to get that challenge done. It still took me 2 hours (just Aksis) to get everybody on the same page and get it done. My second run was a one shot because everybody had it down. Remember, positions, positions, positions, and don't chatter on about too much.

13 RepliesLast night my group completed it. On our first attempt, the supercharge square was left and Aksis teleported left. So we had to wipe b/c we thought it wouldn't do that. That was the only time it happened for the rest of the night though. Just a heads up
-
18 RepliesI don't suggest this method. Even with max agility (tried this on hunter) you're risking his back closing by spending so much time running up. The better spot to stand is on the caution marked paint on the ground near the pillar on the sides and in from of the back middle. This essentially puts you in the middle of 3 (2 in the middle) potential things you can run to and minimizes time wasted running longer distances.
-
3 RepliesCan I get a TL:DR :)
-
20 RepliesI can only see titans get in time for the slam, definitely not warlocks.
-
23 RepliesThis is not a good way to do challenge
-
1 ReplyI dont have any problems myself on this, but other people, especially on warlock, seem to have major issues with moving around the map quickly. Thats really the only thing that ends up holding the teams Ive been on back. Well get the communication down, but they just wont move quickly enough, especially with the floaty warlock jump.
-
1 ReplyJust look at teleport see asksis not on your side turn around and go for the discharge..... Easy, stop this bullshit guides that are actually bad....
-
2 RepliesOn the left and right, if you stand on the caution paint and face your plate you can use this thing called radar to see if the boss teleported to your side. In the middle, if you stand an equal distance between the front and back slams and face your plate you can use this thing called radar to know if the boss went middle. If the boss does not teleport to your side you can rush the plate even if you haven't seen it light up yet to make sure you activate a supercharge.
-
I haven't tried this yet, or even done the supercharging before. So everyone stays in their positions and whoever is near the plate lit up discharges and then the other person slams him? I'll have to try it.
-
1 ReplyDo we get the nanophoenix ship from beating it on chsllenge mode ?
-
Some additional tips from me to make life easier: 1. Make sure the last ball thrower gives everyone a count down before throwing, allowing empowered people to get into position 2. Empowered left/right should stand on the yellow and black box areas. Centre should stand midway between front and back 3. Empowered should face their empowerment supercharge boxes, not Aksis 4. Non-empowered should call out where Aksis teleports 5. (VERY IMPORTANT!) Before final stand make sure you don't damage Aksis if his health is low, if you're worried about him teleporting before you can supercharge. This happened to me twice last night meaning I failed the challenge. He went to his platform before we could supercharge.

Edited by Reyleonard_: 11/10/2016 8:49:19 PMI'll say it again. My God, help those who can 't react quick and think on their feet. This challenge is mad easy. All you have to do is look at your mini map and your plate while you're in the middle of them two duh!!
-
Thanks!
-
8 RepliesEasy mode is to stand between the plate and teleport spot.
-
"Stand on ur damn plates " lol 😂😂😂😂
-
Am I the only one who goes to slam Aksis, hits square and it reloads my damm weapon instead of slamming? Normally still get the slam in, but makes for a sweaty moment.
-
Challenge or not, can you actually jump and stand on aksis's back and even dance if you wanted to before slamming him? Without dying? If your close enough to do so obviously.
-
1 ReplyDid it last night. Everything is the exact same. Easy. Wait to see where is teleports, if you don't have to stun him instantly just stay in your plate, if it flows red push square, rinse and repeat. There is nothing more to it. Biggest issue is people focusing on damaging him and forgetting they are empowered. Check your empowerment before anything and move to a vacant side thay needs it. Damage isn't an issue.
-
2 RepliesI beat it last night with randoms , it wasn't to challenging when you have a group of people that somewhat they are doing
