The Darkest Light, Chapter 21

Ehe, no excuses. I slacked off and haven’t felt up to snuff with writing. Sorry about that! I hope you enjoy your read though and I’ll try and make more as soon as I can! [-----In the Cosmodrome-----] Three shots rang out in the air. A Fallen Vandal fell to his knees and placed two sets of arms on his head, and the other two around himself as if he was attempting to comfort himself. A guardian slowly walked forward and aimed the barrel of his Hand Cannon between the eyes of the Fallen Vandal. The Guardian began to laugh. “You put up a good fight you know. I almost enjoyed myself this time. You almost made it worth my while.” The Fallen Vandal said nothing. “Oh, please, be my guest. I would love to hear you speak. I want to know what you think fear feels like.” The Fallen Vandal looked down to the ground. The Guardian kicked the Fallen in the chin and grabbed it by its head. “You look at me when I’m talking to you.” The Fallen Vandal let out a quiet moan of pain. “That’s more like it.” The Guardian said. “You should have more respect for me. I am your new god after all. That’s what Guardians are right? Immortal gods that know nothing of true death, being constantly revived only to slaughter your kind over and over again? You should be thankful I sparred you. I could have easily ended you like I did the others.” The Guardian turned to look at the endless number of Fallen corpses that littered the field. The Fallen Vandal began to stir and attempted to run. The Guardian snickered and sent out a shadowy tendril to pull the Vandal back. He gave a hard kick to the Vandal’s knees sending him onto the ground. Once again he took aim with his Hand Cannon. The Vandal closed its eyes preparing for death. The Guardian dropped his Hand Cannon in front of the Vandal. “My name is Sahdir Aldmun, and you will remember this kindness I bestowed upon you. I will let you live. I will let you cower alone as the last of your people. And if I find out there are more of you? Well, let’s just say I might have to get my clothes washed again.” The Vandal looked at the Hand Cannon and looked at Sahdir. The Vandal quickly made an attempt to grab the Hand Cannon but before it could even get its hand on the grip, Sahdir had slammed his foot onto the wrist of the Vandal. “I’m hurt you would think of doing such a thing my new friend.” He kneeled down, getting closer to the Vandal, he placed a hand on the Vandal’s face. “I guess it can’t be helped with the filth that is your kind.” In a moment, Sahdir had completed crushed and obliterated what once was the Vandal’s head. “Such a shame.” He looked at the Hand Cannon, picked it up, and tossed it out into the coast. “Who needs guns anyway? They make the kill less enjoyable.” Sahdir stood up and looked around. In the distance he heard a Fallen Captain call out, rallying his fellow Fallen. Sahdir chuckled. “Looks like I’ve found my next toys.” Sahdir began his march towards the location of the Fallen scream when his ghost appeared in front of him. “What’s this?” Sahdir muttered out. The ghost replied “It’s a message from Cayde-6. He has a new assignment for you.” “Is it another wayward speck of light that needs brought down?” “This time it would appear to be three.” The ghost casually replied. “They are a Sunsinger named Helios Brennen, a Defender named Elizabeth Alexandric, and a…” The ghost paused for a moment. “A Warlock named Markus Tintreach.” “Why did you pause ghost?” Sahdir asked. “Well his bio says that he is a Warlock, but…” “But what ghost?” “But… His light doesn’t read as such. Honestly I can’t tell exactly what he is.” Sahdir paused for a moment and then began to chuckle. “So I might have a fight that could be some fun?” Sahdir let out a louder laugh. “I can’t wait to break him.” [----------In The Cosmodrome--------] Markus moved a few bushes out of the way, clearing a path for Elly who had Helios slung over her shoulder. The trio found themselves in a small, open clearing. “I guess this is as good a place as any to set him down.” Markus said. Elly nodded and gently laid Helios on the ground. “What the hell were you thinking back there Markus?” “I-I don’t know.” Markus said softly. “I got scared and I acted. I didn’t know what they would do to Helios, or more frighteningly, what Helios might do to them.” “What do you mean what Helios might do to them?” Elly asked with a quizzical look. “I guess he never actually told you then.” Markus said with a chuckle. “Helios isn’t like you and me.” “No-one is like you Markus. You’re a brawling Warlock.” Elly said with a chuckle. “Besides the point.” Markus replied with a mildly serious tone. “Helios didn’t get his first exposure to the light. He was raised by Fallen. He used to…” Markus looked down at the ground. “He used to kill Guardians.” Elly stepped back. “How do you know this Markus?” Markus gave a soft chuckle. “He told me so. He told me that it’s something he deeply regrets. He never knew that he was doing the wrong thing. Why do you think he always tries so hard and never gives anything less than 200 percent? Its cuz he’s trying to make up for all the bad he did. He just wants to forgive himself.” Elly looked over at Helios. “I’m still not happy about it, but I am gonna talk to him about it.” She looked up at the sky which had begun to turn gray. “We should move him to some form of shelter. Help me move him Markus.” [------------------To Be Continued---------------------------] Again, sorry about my delay but I hope you enjoyed the read. To keep up with the series, follow #Darklit and I’ll see you in the next chapter!
