What level should I open exotic engrams at?
I'm currently 365 and have about 20 exotic engrams stocked, should I open them now or wait?

I know just about everyone has said either 385 or 390 and although it looks like 5 levels hardly makes a difference... It really does. Wait til 390. Simply because at 385 you can still use packages to level up. Once you hit 390 there are just so few options. Opening them at 385 might bump you up 5 or 6 levels (if you're lucky) to 390-391 but doing it at 390 would leave you at 395-396 and that's a noticeable difference

yup.. wait until 390+ first.. and of course only decrypt for your lowest light. if you have something that is 3-5 light lower than your total, fix that first before decrypting anymore.. fyi.. every exotic ive decrypted since 400 has came out to be 400..

Definitely after you hit 390. Heroic Strikes loot will take you to 385. You got vender and vanguard packages to take you to 390, after that: These are the only things that take you from 390 to 400👇 3oCoin Exotic Engrams Skeleton Chests Nightfall Rewards Wrath of Machine loot Lighthouse loot Iron banner rewards Forge gives 400 artifacts, ghosts and class Also , sometimes legendary and blue engrams decrypt as an exotic - these will be at your light SO ALWAYS HAVE YOUR HIGHEST LIGHT GEAR ON WHEN GOING TO THE CRYPTARCH! ! !

After 385

Wait for 390. You can grind faction packages up to 390. After that you need RNG, Shaxx bounty, knightfall and the raid HM to hit 400.

I waited until mid-upper 390s. Sucks now, but it will make your path so much easier to 400 when there are few LL boosting items available.

Hit 390+ with Archons Forge and Faction Leveling, then use em. Save chest and boots for LAST as they cannont be targeted in strikes but everything else can be. Good luck!

Getting to 385 without exotics is really easy. 385 to 390 is difficult as many things cap at 385. And 390 is the cap for vendor rank up packages. So, definitely wait until at least 385 and maybe try to at least get close to 390 first. Then make sure you decode on your highest light character and start by decoding the item type that you have the lowest light for to help bring your light up as you continue to decode.

1 ReplyBump. I'm in a similar position. So far i opened one at about 370 light and it decrypted to 371, ONE light above. Waste. Tried another recently at 380 and same damn thing, one light higher. I'm wondering if hitting light 385 is the "tipping point " so to speak, where stuff will drop close to 400 I'm currently max 384 light so when i hit 385 I'll try another engram Hope someone who knows for sure will reply. 385 is where leveling your light becomes a real slog. Wait until then at the very least.
