I'm interested in a genuine discussion, here, because I go back and forth.
On the one hand, I've been at the mountaintop. I've had a great clan that ran challenge mode raids and went to the lighthouse with all three characters every week, no problem. It feels great, and I genuinely like the feeling of having full gear sets/shaders/emblems that other players don't have. Feeling special is nice.
But on the other side, I have a reluctant confession: I'm bad at PvP. It hurts my pride to say it, because I work hard at getting better and try to stay positive... but I'm not good. I had to admit this to myself after my year 1 trials team stopped playing and I realized just how much I was getting carried. Now I'm wondering about the other side of the equation. I'm not mad at the players that beat me every week in trials (they're better than me, what's there to complain about?), nor do I think I necessarily "deserve" to have all the gear in the game just because I bought the game (there has to be challenge and goals to achieve). But I do wonder about whether or not it's a good thing to have genuinely good/fun gear permanently out of reach of a player. Now that I'm on the other side of the equation, I see how impossible it is to find a good team randomly (especially in PvP), especially one that's willing to take a bad player, and I realize that, in all likelihood, I'm just never going to get to the lighthouse again. That's a weird feeling - definitely a "bad" one, haha - and it makes me wonder if such systems are a good thing or a bad thing.
Again, I'm not mad at anyone or saying I deserve to win... and I'm hesitant to say that the elite shouldn't be allowed their marks of status, because hey, they really are better at PvP than I am and deserve to be recognized for their skill/talent. I'm just raising the question of what form that recognition should take. Anyone can get to the place where they can beat a static raid. Very few people (relatively speaking) can even possibly get good enough to compete with other live/changing players for flawless... discuss?
TL:DR - Getting to the lighthouse is (unlike something like the hard raid) basically impossible for most players (most being a statistical average). Though it feels nice for those on top, is it the best thing for the game to make content such as good gear/weapons exclusive to an "elite" group of players?
