When are people going to realize that the only -blam!-ing thing that matters with a president is who he/she nominates to the Supreme Court. They are the ones making a difference. The presidents struggle to get anything done.
Ex. Obamas been trying to close Guantanamo bay for the better part of 3 years. Not a single change made.
Everything a president attempts to do is:
stonewalled by congress
They don't matter. People need to get over the fact that trump is "mean" or he said a woman is ugly. there is not a single man who has never said a woman is ugly and/or commented on a woman's appearance.
But the usual liberal main stream media will constantly shield the truth from the basic public. The ones who know what's really going on are the ones who search farther than Fox News on the TV. Or the Clinton News Network (CNN).

Well having a dick for a president is an embarrassment for the American people so, ya know... -
The president is also the commander in chief, and as of the state of things seemingly can go to war without permission of congress. That strikes me as a rather powerful tool of a president. A tool I don't believe the president should have, but congress, however congress signed off their rights to that after 9/11.

Edited by Kemosabe508: 10/28/2016 3:02:06 AM
After September 11, the United States Congress passed the Authorization for Use of Military Force against Terrorists (AUMF). While the AUMF did not officially declare war, the legislation provided the President with more authority upon which to exercise his constitutional powers as Commander in Chief.
That's what you're thinking of.
Congress has sole power "to declare war [and] grant letters of marque and reprisal.
So no. The president can tell congress he/she wants to declare war. Congress says yes/no.

Edited by CrazyLincoln: 10/28/2016 3:59:57 AMNo, you're misunderstanding. As of right now, the President thanks to that legislation can authorize any military action as long as it's connected to terrorism in same way. Congress does not need the okay for example if the president wanted to authorize a strike on terrorist operating outside of Japan.

the only catch to war is basically the middle east situation, where troops can be deployed solely by the president's command for up to 90 days... enough time to conquer a region if we really wanted to. but yes, congress has the most power, even if its a group of 500 people
-
And it's that damn 90 day rule that bill Clinton loved so much. Needs to be changed.

we shouldnt be able to send any troops or bomb anything without approval, unless its an invasion on the US of course
