Never buying silver or any other ingame 'currency'.
People who buy that shit are creating an environment for greedy asshats who want us to throw money at the screen.
Clarification: I don't mind adults spending their money on things. If Bungie sells something for a fixed price and people are stupid enough to shell out money, so be it. I still find that questionable, because this one thing is awfully expensive compared to the cost of a whole game.
What I find criminal is to hide the real cost of things behind a RNG system that makes you accept a much higher cost because you don't get told the probability of items. Bungie just tells us which items we get by chance without any method to evaluate the potential price tag! That's not a fair buissines tactic.
IGN needed around 100$ to get all items from the FotL packages. That's the price of the whole vanilla game plus HoW and CE. Do you think that's an incentive for Bungie to bring us more planets, cutscenes and missions, or will they make more superfluous 'events' to sell you even more of that wonderbag stuff?
Would you buy any good in a shop where you have to pay first and then roll on a secret loot table? You want some german beer and get 5x root beer and some bread instead? Would you pay until you got your real beer?
Thanks for the intense discussion. Never tought this would go that far.
Edit: Corrected a spelling error. (I am german. Hints on how to write something correctly are appreciated.)

I will never buy any shit like this, they make enough money from us

I never bought silver but I bought the DLC so plz shoot me

In your second to last paragraph the word good should be changed to goods. The noun good isn't used often in singular form and flows better when said as goods. Other than that great English, it's better than half of the people's English on this forum and they're native speakers. And I don't see the harm of buying a few dollars worth every once and awhile. I've bought 10$ worth of silver the entire life span of the game and I got Ghost ghost which is what I wanted so I'm not going to complain, but even if I didn't get I wouldn't've spent anymore. People that spam buy RNG factored things (I.E. loot caches, treasures in destiny, Supply drops, etc) are generally people who blindly throw money at the game developers without forethought

I haven't. It is pretty sad though.

I got a Ghost Ghost. happy about it

Edited by Urban Shade: 10/28/2016 3:21:09 PMI had left over money from buying all the dark souls games over the year. Then I just looked at the kiosk and was like, "You know what'd be cool? Getting that hotline bling dance."
Got it first try
-
Never spent a single dime on silver I only used the free silver we got when they first introduced it should've saved tbh just to say I'm cool lol

I believe the best solution to this problem is, give one account one loot bag per day. My reasoning, if they do this there would still be some bad luck involved but this would give everybody (14 + however many avatars you have) so at most 17 freebies. So you won't be locked out of getting the cool stuff but you still could if you want to. P.S I mean one Xbox account and/or one PlayStation account not 17 per avatar that's a bit excessive in my opinion.

I got Xbox gift cards for my birthday so I used them on silver but that's it

Edited by dontworch: 10/28/2016 3:09:05 PMI dropped 50 on silver last night just so I can get the terrify Emote Ended up getting the ghost ghost, the devil ghost, the sparrow, and all kinds of masks. Then I got the rest of the emotes It was awesome And to top it all off I'm leaving work because I got rained out, so now I get to go dance with my new emotes all over the archon Forge while I ignore my girlfriend in the process. Life is good 😎
-
Personally, I would never use my hard earned cash to buy silver. That said, as long as people are aware of the RnG involved who am I to tell others how to spend their money?
-
I buy silver rarely, and for two things. First is a specific emote I want. Second is when I was anything from the loot table and don't really care what comes out (happened is SRL)

Why would anyone spend money on things you're not even guaranteed to get and that you can barely even notice when the actual game is being played?
-
Bought 500 two weeks before FotL, just because I had an extra £5 on my account left over. First time and easily last time. Not a big deal tho :/

Edited by Ratti260699: 10/28/2016 1:41:32 PMThey should've made all of last years helmets available without using Silver. I still haven't got any of the new items from the free Treasures of the Lost. That's just RNG for ya.
-
I have not, but i want The Evil Dead emote.
-
None of the stuff from the boxes is necessary. It's all stuff that just looks cool, and that's it. I've spent silver, just because I wanted an emote. I didn't need it, but I wanted it.
-
nobody forcing you to buy silver. Also, silver buys you cosmetic stuff, so nothing p2w. Also, it isnt really gambling for ornaments becasue you can use the silver dust from dismantling ones you dont like to buy one you do from Xur, sure its a little pricey but like I said, cosmetic.
-
Let's all ignore the fact that OP has bought emotes from Tess Eververse and therefor has already bought silver.
-
Has nothing to do with being a greedy asshat. Maybe I just like supporting a game I like playing. I've spent money on Destiny, Tera Online, CSGO, CoD, Blade And Soul and a few more. I don't see the problem with supporting the game. Now I don't like how bungie has no way what so ever to actually earn Silver. If they added a way to earn Silver it would make it much better.

I pride myself on never giving up a dollar to Bungo

Edited by RA_19_748_011: 10/28/2016 1:14:18 PMI like Destiny, I play it with fam and friends. So after buying everything (game and dlcs) on ps3, i also got the collectors addition. Then upped to a ps4 and..... got the collectors edition for it too.... also spent about 100 or so in silver, after i post this ima buy 20 more for zombie dance and idk what els yet:) i work 14 hour days and have a dam good chunk of extra money.... Edit: Wanna make it more clear.... If i choose to spend my extra un needed money to support the Bungie team, so what? How is that anyones business to get offended over? Also you can't say you've never done the same. For all who own an Iphone or a Galaxy you've already lost this argument. New Iphone will run you 700ish, you could've got a 35 dollar touch screen, it can make calls text or even go online as well. So u unnecessarily spent $665, as where most these guys spent $5-$60.... lol so, the guys ur calling stupid, you still got them beat by $600 at least;) so go sit in your thinking chair and come back again.

If bungie just sold items without RNG then more people would buy items BUT those buyers might just spend $10 or less the entire year. Bungie would lose the players spending $50-$100 but I think it would even out AND be better received by the community.

At last people are waking up :)
