Fallout noob, give me advice!

So, as somebody who has never played a Fallout game in the past, I bought Fallout 4 on Steam, as I liked Skyrim and I saw it was on sale. 5 hours later; I'm getting my rear end handed to me on a silver platter and the game is extremely confusing, leading to me not having a lot of fun. Can anybody help me understand the systems of the game a bit more so I can feel like I have a better grasp of the game's mechanics?

If you see a red name, they're hostile. If you shoot someone, they become hostile. Shoot literally anyone in Diamond City, they're hostile for a Fallout week. See green skies? Get in your Power Armor or a safe place, and sleep. Rad storms are terrible unless you're protected. Deathclaws are called Deathclaws for a reason. Super Mutants are suprisingly tanky. In a group, they can be mildly dangerous at a low level. Bugs are hard to shoot, go for the melee(unless you're at a high level, Radscorpions are not fun up close.) Mirelurk shells are very hard, aim for their core. Synths are a great way to find...what are they called...batteries? Yeah, let's go with that. Batteries for energy weapons. Side with the Brotherhood. When you're at higher levels and carry too much, summon a Vertibird. You also get some free stuff and a free set of Power Armor when you reach the Prydwen. Side with the Minutemen. Ummm...patriotism? Side with the Railroad. Kickass guns. Side with the Institute, more kickass guns. You can't side with the Brotherhood, then join the Railroad or Institute. You can't(well you can, but Preston won't like it) side with the Minutemen, then join any other faction. I recommend joining the desired faction first, the siding with Minutemen. Can't go Railroad, then go Institute or Brotherhood. Can't go Institute, then go Railroad or Brotherhood. *note-you can, but companions from that faction will be dissapointed.
Your child becomes head of the Institute.

Spoilers are spoilers for a reason. Bungie lesson.
