You've got bloom all wrong here's why

Ok so bloom is a hot topic and for good reason, but you need to understand that it really isn't implemented correctly. The fact of the matter is that hand cannons don't deserve bloom, damage falloff yes but bloom really? You have the wrong gun type my friends. Hand cannons are light weight weapons meant to be accurate especially at close quarters and very easy to handle compared to some of these larger weapons. This brings me to my next point, which is where bloom truly belongs. In a game like Destiny there is always one problem and that is balance. Now bloom is a totally rational idea... when used correctly. Here's what I mean: shotguns, they are close range and harder to handle than hand cannons. They are also a hot topic right now. If bloom is added to shotguns, it not only stops the run and gun at outrageous ranges, but it also doesn't harm those who use the guns as intended up super close for that guaranteed kill. Snipers could also benefit from bloom. Snipers, firstly need at least some of the flinch to be taken away. It is just too much at this point. Instead of punishing snipers for actually sniping they should be punished for running around cqc style combating shotguns and handcannons at close range. Quickscoping is and always has been a rediculous and unrealistic usage of the weapon type. Add bloom when jumping around and moving quick and the cqc problem is fixed. If you fully scope in, remove all bloom and allow for the shot to hit directly on target as intended. This is simply my two cents on the situation. I just don't feel right watching shotguns snipe, snipers run around, and handcannons shoot the wielders in the nuts. It really is painful to watch rng screw over a weapon type that is actually being used correctly.

  • Only way to fix this game is to remove aim assist and make people actually use their thumbs

    • People hate on snipers for camping, people hate on snipers for playing aggressive, so my question, what can I do?

      • So how exactly do you implement bloom on a weapon that 1. Typically fires slowly enough (relatively speaking) for the user to reset the weapon prior to the next shot 2. Is not meant for accuracy, but spraying an entire area with buckshot 3. Practically useless outside of melee range? You didn't specify this in your post. I'm eager to hear this.

      • I never got this. People always talk about how awful bloom is. I am an almost strict hand cannon user, and I use them in PVP as well as PVE. Apparently I'm not looking close enough, because I haven't noticed bloom yet. If I don't kill someone, I blame it on myself. It's my lack of skill. I hadn't even taken into consideration that maybe bloom was screwing me

        • Bloom is a tough one to balance. I have been playing BF1 recently, which treats bloom much like you suggest, and I have mixed feelings. Perfectly accurate weapons with varying recoil and damage is kind of boring, because you can just focus on perks that reduce recoil and or increase damage and you will eventually get an OP weapon. Thats how I see Destiny right now. On the flip side, weapons with vastly different levels of accuracy can be just as boring. At first it requires more careful thought and consideration when engaging others, like minimizing strafing, maximizing stand still time, and since you need to stand still as long as possible you find ways to minimize your exposure to fire. That is all fun, but it also leads to frustration while learning those skills. You die a lot because you just flat out miss your target and if you arent sure why, it can be very infuriating. Eventually you upgrade to a more accurate weapon and all that other stuff becomes less impactful and gameplay goes back to a run and gun style. So both designs can be just as boring. Finding a sweetspot sounds good, like an ideal mix of weapon power versus tactical thinking. But those two things may be mutually exclusive, which makes the ideal also impossible to achieve. Just my thoughts.
