I'm sure we've all seen it for the most part, abusing armor locks very powerful abilities, which usually includes simply tapping the ability on/off button.
I understand, this is supposed to be that way, but in a way it ruins a lot of gameplay, got stuck? armor lock, wait for explosion, get stuck again, no prob just tap it again and wait it out.
Furthermore, being able to see surroundings and instantly turn to face any adversary in a 360 degree radius is also being abused. To top it all off, the EMP included with the ability pretty much gives you a one hit beat down.
Solution: Armor lock is just that, LOCKED ARMOR, there should be no possible way to see anything that isn't already in your field of view, locking the screen to the last known field of view would be a simple and effective solution.
As for the on/off part, I'll use the same stance I took with the last solution. Armor Lock should BE locked until either it's been completely used up, or you decide to turn it off. SO if you activate it, then disable it, the ability is used up until meh, 1/4 charge?

I made this thread, because from what I've done while using the class, and fighting people who constantly use it, there seems to be very little to no risk compared to the reward.
Jet Pack- go high, you're open to anyone with a gun
Sprint- you can go fast, but can be a bit hard to control, and add that it really isn't that much of a lethal ability.
Camo- What can I say that hasn't already been said, you get detected then you're detected, after that there's not much you can do but to fight your way out. Running with camo essentially makes you a target thats slightly harder to hit with your first shot.
Armor- 360 degree view, invulnerability, knock back, EMP, and repelling of attached explosions.
Should you feel differently, post what you think, if you agree or have something to add, feel free to post.

@ Lanky Yea, and in my book that is COMPLETELY fair, and fairly effective. It's been used against me for good measure, they AL I take a few flags out and then the frags start pouring in, and my pals have done the same, and I swooped in for some free assassinations. And thats fine, and yea, the main issue I have with it (Or at least the way people use it) is how I've seen it utilized. More or less, I feel I would have no reason to bring up the issue even if these problems were present or worse even if they hadn't shown up in many of the games I play.

I personally love armor lock and use i t quite frequently. It gives myself the chance to launch a counter attack, while in past games almost 100% of the time, when your shields are down and you under fire, you are DONE. I think it is a good add to the halo set and should stay as is. The one quarrel i have with it is when you are getting out and you are getting ready to attack when someone suddenly assasinates you from a completely different angle

Armor Lock has a lot of strategic uses. My best use of this AA was during a game of Stockpile. I would run to the enemy's flag drop-off point, spray some bullets, and go in to Armor Lock. Usually two or three people from the enemy team would surround me, waste ammo, and wait for Armor Lock to run out and then kill me. Even though I was not using Armor Lock to save myself, I did manage to keep two or three guys from grabbing flags because they were too preoccupied with me even though all I was doing was going in to Armor Lock by their base.

I disagree with people who simply say "nuh-uh" If they could even give me a complete sentence it would've been an improvement. They had nothing to back their choice, or to support it. If I wanted responses like that I would've included a poll.
-
Armour lock is in my experince only saves people from a quick explosions.

From what I can see you're just shooting down whoever says something you don't want to hear. It's their opinion as to wether or not they agree with you on the matter, no need to act like an ass to them.
Posted by: LankyJ767 Disadvantages of Armor Lock: You are a sitting duck to anyone who is smart enough to step back. You are also very visible to your enemies. Your shield stays at the same level as it was when you went in to armor lock. If you had no shield when activating, you have no shield when released. EMP radius is dependent on how long you stay in Armor Lock. If you just hit Armor Lock and immediately release, you will not have a very effective EMP.
OP raises a good point, but I agree with this. IMO armour lock is fine. But much how you aren't allowed to sprint/use camo when you have a flag; you shouldn't be able to return a flag/capture *insert location here* in armour lock.
-
Hadle, that's a pretty interesting point actually :o hadn't really considered that as an option to be honest. I would like to see camo become less detectable if that were the case, jet pack could use some more initial lift power, sprint, I don't have an idea on buffing it yet much. Yea I've seen multiple teams that consisted of nothing BUT AL's But putting a limit would draw up some huge complaints I'm sure [Edited on 05.04.2010 9:44 PM PDT]

I love the armor lock, so there!

If a entire team is using it, it is annoying... In my opinion anyway. And i don't know if its me or not, but sometimes armor lock doesn't have a emp blast, which helps ALOT. But other times i've actually been killed by a armor locker who's emp set off some frags and killed me when i was at a safe distance... then he said wtf... and zombie walked. But anyway, its just annoying. Maybe there can be only one or two armor lockers per team? Because i think the only real problem is that its kinda unfair when a entire team uses it. I kill armor lockers almost every time, but sometimes.... wtf. *Edit* ok, and to be truthful, i use it for 1 flag and its saves my life alot and brings victory towards my team. Lol. The only part of your post I agree with is the sticky grenades. I haven't had a problem defeating people with armor locks because you're reacting to them as much as they are to you, so when you're saying "is he gonna tap it or hold it, should I reload?" he's thinking "is he gonna wait or back off a few feet, maybe toss a grenade?" The pro's and con's to using it seem pretty equal. My only complaint is getting stuck and popping armor lock. I say this because I was stuck with the plasma launcher and I went into lock and survived. I think that was more of an oversight on Bungies part than an intended effect. I'm surprised at how well rounded all the AA's are. They all have a time and place to be used, and it's easy to switch to whatever you need when you die.
-
Magnum, Assault rifle as a fall back, I think DRM are a little too clumsy, I prefer to melee whenever possible, since I usually go with Camo. But while they are locked, I reload whatever I have, or go for the melee kill. But I swear that damage I inflicted before hand should've left em open for a one hitter, but the damage on Reach is a lot different than past games

I personally only use armor lock. I think it is by far the best one to use due to the fact that I paint a giant target on my head by using jetpack and camo doesn't really do anything for people who have even a small amount of situational awareness (like omg my map is spazzing out! there must be an invisible person nearby... oh look a shimmering spot on the wall not inconspicuous whatsoever ect ect ect). Sprint has its uses but I still prefer lock over it. Lock is easy to counter for those who can time grenades correctly to go off right as a person comes out of lock. The majority of the time people just spaz out and start chucking grenades at you which is exactly what the person in lock wants.... I've gotten triple kills easily because people chunk their nades and then just sit there and stop paying attention to the guy not fighting and I pop out and destroy them. Just a quick personal account. Point is is that the other loadouts (in my honest opinion) should be powered up instead of nerfing AL to make them more useful instead of a walking or hovering target.

Usually armor lock is a team ability, I usually only use it to throw off an opponent and let an ally finish him off. The one time it really shines is when you have a close range power weapon. It can extend a spree and allow you to take on multiple enemies, but that's a rare situation. I don't think it's an overpowered ability anymore than camo is. I have to ask, what weapon do you you usually use when fighting an armor lock player?
-
Yea I thought you meant that, but honestly, It's fairly well... uncommon to have a grenade on you, or to find one on the ground, those things get used up rapidly. And yea I've done it before, but let's face it, you either take little damage from a grenade, or get killed almost outright. I rarely ever have one for suicide situations.
Posted by: Manfreakez Wha? Pretty sure they just about nullify grenades.
gotta time it, you throw it when you know his lock is about end I always kill people in armor lock. You wait a few seconds then throw a few nades on the ground. He blows his EMP load, then the nades blow up and he dies.
-
It's fine. Easy to deal with armor lockers- it's when they work as a team that it becomes (!!!). Team Doubles with armor lock. Lord.
-
Posted by: Manfreakez Wha? Pretty sure they just about nullify grenades.
Step back, wait a few seconds and just as the EMP is going off frag out. It's really not as hard as you make it seem.
-
Wha? Pretty sure they just about nullify grenades.
-
You obviously haven't tried frags. The cure-all for armor lock. Oh, and you can already destroy it sometimes by melee. [Edited on 05.04.2010 9:12 PM PDT]

Thanks for the input, and PAL, it's a good point, P-Pistol would suit that nicely, It'd definitely need a limit, like taking effect on disabling abilities only while they're active, sure would make them sought after instead of just some weapon on the ground.
-
Just adapt to the player. Easy. It does need to be toned down a bit, a plasma pistol charge shot would be nice to deactivate it.. and the jetpack.
-
i agree armor lock needs to be fixed a little
-
Armor lock gets me killed more often than not. I think it's underpowered and should include a much larger EMP blast as well as a physical blast that knocks people off their feet. (Ok not really, but the first sentence is true)
-
i always thought the EMP was kinda useless anyway. Usually people just get hit by it on accident considering the thing has no range unless you hold it down for a few seconds but even then it gives every1 ample time to back away and wait. I mainly use it if im about to die, i throw it down and pray my teammate comes and kills my attacker b4 the thing goes off.

thanks... for the insightful answers ._.
