Bolt caster is the superior heavy weapon in Crucible.

I've been using swords in pvp more, and usually they are below average. Except the bolt caster. I'll be comparing it to a rocket launcher. Now the average launcher has two shots, which is two kills unless you get a cheeky multi kill. Now the bolt caster. 30 ammo, for the potential of 30 kills. The greatest downside is you have to play campy as hell to be effective, which mean rocket launchers have the advantage. Until you factor in the ability. 5 ammo per cast for 6 total. Now the bolts are basically rockets with a charge up time. They have an insane amount of aim assist, I've had the literally change course to hit someone. If you throw in s doorway anyone who runs through is -blam!-ed for the next three seconds. But even though it has the capacity for 6 kills it's still inferior due to the dots aspect and the wind up. But what about the block? And the new artifact? Without the artifact a sword can still tank any rocket, but with it it will shoot the rocket back for a free kill. And it works against tethers, and golden guns. If somebody sees you and goes "oh shit he's about to shank me" and then panic tethers, you can shoot that bad boy right back. And it can deflect a quiver hunter as well. And God only knows how many rockets. The second you reflect launch right into the r2 attack just to confirm the kill. Which puts it on a usefulness above rockets as it's the perfect counter for any of them. Also as a final thought, if you want to be an ass in elimination or skirmish wait till you know they almost have the revive then cast the bolt. Easy double kill and it's great for hate mail. Sorry if I'm incoherent I usually don't make posts. If you disagree tell me why, use your words.

  • I prefer dark drinker. I collected alot of defender titans tears with it. I also prefer blink + sword to avoid rockets. I also camp and wait for everyone to be killed to make sure I won't be blown up. I also block all the shotgun shots then tear them apart when they reload.

  • I would love to agree or disagree with you but I usually die before I can get heavy, let alone use it. Now, if you will excuse me, I am working on my "back in action" collection.

It's good but the bolt travels very slow and leaves you open for shots. If you are tactical with it it can takes out quite a few enemies. One thing I do is fire a bolt then block and get behind cover

    • You sound like a hispster Bolt caster is the superior sword in pvp. nothing more You may be able to argue this sword is better than a machine gun but to say it's better than a rocket launcher is asinine Trust me if bolt caster was as good as you try to make it seem all the sweats would be using it as they always use the best weapons

      • If running a sword in crucible, Bolt Caster is def the way to go. I personally enjoy a machine gun though.

      • Bolt is the pvp sword after all... raze is the tank buster and drinker is the crowd control

        • I've gotten so many "trades" with it in trials lol. More than half the time when it's me and another guy with heavy during trials, it ends up with him killing me first with whatever, and the ranged bolt killing him from the grave. :P

        • Different people excel with different weapons, including heavies. And, different Guardians use different weapons: a stealthy hunter might favor the sword, while a sniping Titan might use rockets and a warlock who fights up close will go with a machine gun. Thunderlord, I've found, is rarely seen in the Crucible. But my Titan uses it there, and he's gotten five- and even six-kill streaks with it. Bolt caster is, I think, similar for you: few people have quite mastered it, but you make it work and work well.

          • Im sorry but i like the razelighter more and it can take down super that have extra armor. Only benefit i see of running the bolt caster is with the radeghast artifact since there is no arc projectile supers to deflect.

            • It's fun and decent, but can't compete with truth. Especially in trials which I mostly play
