something to take into consideration.
fastest time to kill for primary weapons in this game is .8 seconds (no tincluding things like temp damage buffs or exotics or LITC)
average human reaction time is .2-.25 seconds. that is reaction, not decision, not completed action via muscle memory, just when you start reacting.
this is a internet game. expect latency between 50-150milliseconds. (.05-.15 seconds)
now we have a .25-.4 second range of reaction timeingame
but the game is also 30FPS with is about 33.4 millliseconds per frame (lets just make it 33)
thats .033 seconds.
.283-.433 seconds reactoin time, in what can be said to be generally "optimal" conditions. this doesnt even take into account the type of screen you are using wich could add as much as 150 milliseconds (.15 seconds)
so depending on persons reaction, muscle memory, screen capabilities, wireless vs wired connection, internet provider, connection strength, bandwidth load...etc...etc...you can easily see a players actual reaction time being anywhere between .3-.6 seconds (barring really crud connections).
this will leave a player .5-.2 seconds of actual time to get out of the way of a primary.
in other words, half the time when a person gets out of the wya of being shot, they were beginning to react to being shot on a prediction basis, not purely reactionary.
.8 seconds time to kill isn't too bad...but its also optimal, most players wont see optimal TTK due to enemy movement and user error.
This isnt to state primaries should or shouldnt be buffed, its just to state that things are not as clear as many of you seem to think it is.

1 ReplyInteresting - and reminded me of this episode of The Infinite Monkey Cage that talks about our perception of reality: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-infinite-monkey-cage/id343580439?mt=2&i=361725151 If you've got a spare half hour, well worth a listen...

So I'm in a wheelchair which means I use my hands a lot does that mean it should increase cause I suck

I totally agree they should buff the thorn a little.

I like this thread. That is all.

2 RepliesDidn't TLW have a 0.24s TTK at one point?

1 ReplyDo you even, the last word's time to kill? 0.5 sec

Excellent Point Another point worth considering is that destiny has very slow acceleration mechanics which further impose a reaction delay. Strafing behind cover reactionarily is usually too slow to avoid death even with current primary time to kills, barring anticipation. This phenomenon is why pre-firing is so strong in Destiny. On a decent connection, MIDA can seem to three tap or two tap because the damage from the first and second shot are displayed on screen simultaneously due to latency. A .8 ttk might lead to primary kills that cannot be reacted to because of latency much like TLW and Thorn in Y1. Another potential solution is to increase primary body shot damage so that current optimal time to kills are reached more often when targets are trying to rush and juke. High body shot damage has always been one of the premier reasons for hand cannon dominance. Sorry for the rough post. Penny for your thoughts.

- ping some of your opponents and you'll find pings from 200-500ms+ on many occasions - most large flatscreens that people are playing on have ~50+ms latency, with great ones showing up sub ~30 The problem with this game is when you couple all the crazy latency with .8s primaries, ohk specials, ohk supers, and observing the game match you with 3 different continents with the first 3 people it finds for you,... That is the problem. Balance/tweak the ttk of primaries, specials, supers, sand grenades all you like, But go into a match with a combined latency that's higher than the ttk's and it's all a joke really.

3 RepliesI whole heartedly agree, titans need to be nerfed.
-
Don't forget the crazy lag comp and time needed for the game to sync properly to the opponents screen which is when the real BS starts to happen.... Laggy players have a definite advantage and can see u clearly and smoothly on their screen while they teleport everywhere and notice u on screen for longer periods

I see your point, i also think fusion rifles shoulf be nerfed.
-
You forgot the TL;DR - nerf fusion rifles
-
So nerf fusion rifles?
-
Thats why its a fundamental skill in pvp to anticipate your opponents actions.
-
Did OP just confirm Half-life 3?
-
Advid gamers have a faster reaction time though

1 ReplyI upgraded my brain speed with Comcast so I have zero brain lag. Only an extra $9.99 per month.

& this is why we have aim assist.

While 0.2 - 0.5 sec seems reasonable I've seen cases where its more like 0.1 seconds. This happens when you get matched with sweats and lag to the point its not even fun playing anymore. Yes in some matches The come shooting around corners from my point of view.

11 Repliesyeah, also after playing Halo 5 running at 60FPS, coming back to Destiny, PVP and 30FPS is a huge step down...

3 RepliesThat's average human not the average gamer

1 ReplyYour math is fundamentally flawed. You fail to account for the SHOOTERS reaction time. This would negate any reactionary time by the person being shot. Movement of person being shot at, shooter screen response time, shooters reaction to the situation unfolding on his/her screen, connection speed and so forth are relevant to BOTH parties. I did enjoy your view on the subject though.
