Materials shouldn't be purchaseable. You should have to get out there and farm.
That's how real RPGs do it.

The people that usually complain are just your regular year 3 or year 2 players. Alpha, beta, and day 1 player, "year 1" players had to do this for a whole year so please suck it up like we did. 😘
-
Nah in a real rpg I'd buy it off another player.
-
Nah in a real rpg I'd buy it off another player.
That would be an mmorpg.
-
True.
-
No, no, no, no, NO!!!!! If you could collect planetary mats by killing enemiess then fine but I signed up for a shooter not chest opening simulator! You need to get right back in your box pal!
-
No, you signed up for an RPG.
-
Dont think so pal, why dont you go back and watch some of the adverts when destiny was coming out, sure as sh1t looked like a shooter to me. I love RPGs and dont mind a bit of farming but the farming in this was beyond boring and as its persistent world other people would come in and take the chests all the time fukking up your chest run. It was the worst thing about Destiny year one.
-
Destiny was always advertised as online and open world. I can't think of an open world game that isn't an RPG. Also, Destiny most certainly is designed very similarly to an MMORPG. Apparently Destiny 2 is going to resemble one even more.
-
GTA is open world and online and isnt strictly speaking an RPG, neither is EVE online, thats a strategy game. Games nowadays cross lots of lines and are more a grey area at to what genre they actually sit in. End of the day it really doesnt matter, farming chests is boring AF and if this came back I would stop playing destiny and I'm a pretty hardcore fan, the casuals would leave in droves. Just because something has been done for long time doesnt mean we should keep doing it anyway, games are supposed to be fun, it isnt supposed to be a chore. If you dropped mats from killing enemies I'm fine with that but I find zero enjoyment in opening boxes and I dont think many others did either.
-
That's a main RPG element though. If you're so in love with this game, then taking 20 minutes of your life to get materials wouldn't make you leave.
-
LMAO "20 mins" I used to spend hours running laps of the cosmodrome to get enough mats to level the many weapons and amour pieces I had across all three chars. Why would you want to bring back something SOOOOOOO boring? If you have no life and dont enjoy the shooting element of this game then by all means run laps of the rocketyard, no one is stopping you but its not for me thanks. Like I said, games should be fun all the time, not a chore. Also this is a shooter with RPG elements not strictly speaking an RPG. If you are so in love with farming and collecting things then go play minecraft with the other 6 year olds.
-
Hours? There were areas you could go to and get tons of mats. They were by no means rare. This is a common RPG element though. If you don't like RPG elements, don't play an RPG. If you still want to play the RPG, then don't complain. It's rather simple.
-
It isnt an RPG its a shooter with RPG elements and you also havent addressed the fact its boring AF. Why do you want to make me do boring things in a game? Like I said you want to do boring things you crack on, no one is stopping you!
-
Destiny is an RPG. Just because we're not medieval knights slaying dragons doesn't mean it's not an RPG. And whether it's boring or not is strictly your opinion. I feel like I'm being productive when I gather materials. It's a nice peaceful time to look around the map and enjoy the sights.
-
Mass effect was an RPG and thats not medival Knights, as I said games nowadays fit into more than one category, this is shooter heavy RPG lite. Regardless of that I think farming mats is boring and detracted from the fun of the game. You dont so you crack on with your boring farming I'm not stopping you!
-
There's no point. I can get them for free. Farming felt productive, was there's no point. It also keeps people from exploring the game, as materials were one of the very few reasons to actually patrol.
-
Real RPG's. Destiny isn't a real RPG
-
In WoW there is an auction house lol
-
WoW is an MMORPG.
-
I agree. There is no point now to collect them now as you can just buy them. Or use a ghost to get some when you get engrams, which is I think the best way for me ("best" as "fun"). I remember those patrols for hours, getting chests and materials. Finding the best area and the best "trail" to get them haha
-
Good thing this aint a real rpg then
-
That's actually how it worked in Vanilla Destiny and trust me bro it's not what you want lol
-
I know it was like that. I loved when it was like that. I could rank up my vanguard/crucible with those materials.
-
Real RPGs have an economy, most of which also feature purchasable materials you'd otherwise have to grind for.
-
Grinding materials is far more important than buying them. Plus they removed turning in materials for vanguard/crucible when they changed it. If they do this, they'll probably removed it from Eris too.
