Weapon Acronyms and Hidden References
I just wanted to start a forum to know what all the weapons with acronyms or name references mean.
Ex. LDR 5001- Long Distance Relationship what the 5001 means I don't know.
Please post any weapons like this you know what the reference or acronym is referring to?

Parthian Shot- The Parthian shot was a military tactic made famous by the Parthians, an ancient Iranian people. The Parthian archers on a horse, while retreating at a full gallop, would turn their bodies back to shoot at the pursuing enemy

7 RepliesEdited by M0WBZ: 10/9/2016 4:56:50 AMA long time ago I started writing this: Osiris - Egyptian god of the dead, son of Ra, brother and husband of Isis and posthumously father to Horus Aaru's passage (ToO shader) - aaru is the name for ancient egypts version of heaven (the field of reeds) you would spend eternity here if you passed the final judgement in the hall of maat. Fabian strategy - a military tactic first used by roman dictator Fabius Maximus whilst defending Rome from Hannibal's Carthaginian army. As referenced in flavour text it is a war of attrition. Khepri's Sting - Khepri is an Egyptian god associated with the scarab beetle, the scarab beetle being an element of this armours design. Ophidian Aspect - Ophidia is a group of reptiles, which all modern snakes belong to. The flavour text reads 'have I the aspic in my lips?' This is also a reference to snakes along with the perk name 'viper totemic' the aspic viper or the asp is a snake found in Europe, it's bite can be fatal if untreated. Thagomizers - a Thagomizer is the club tail of a stegosaurus it was an offensive armament, much as the gauntlets are as they give you an extra melee. The flavour text also references the dino tail and extra melee with 'don't get too close' Achlyophage Symbiote - achlyophage may be a reference to a particular insect species, although the connection is not a strong one, however Symbiote refers to mutual interaction between two different species, as in a parasite, when looking at the helm you can see a parasitic growth from it. Apotheosis veil - in theology apotheosis refers to the idea that an individual has been raised to godlike status or 'deified' Astrocyte verse - an Astrocyte is a cell in your brain and spinal chord, if you read the flavour text it refers to the helm changing the wearers exoneurons into the stuff of pure thought. Empyrean Bellicose - empyrean is an Ancient Greek concept of the highest heaven, considering this helm allows you to kill ones enemies from above I can see how it fits. Bellicose means eager to fight Telesto - Telesto is a moon of Saturn. It was discovered by Smith, Reitsema, Larson and Fountain in 1980 from ground-based observations. Pretty much everything in destiny is a reference to something else. I know I didn't get far with the list but time constraints you know? Would love to get a full list of all weapons/armor and what they are referencing.

Apple of Discord- the apple Eris threw on the table that started the Trojan war, engraved on the apple- "for the fairest". Eris- Greel goddess of chaos. Sunsinger- Self rez is a Bennu or Phoenix, reborn in fire. Judith D- Judith is a book in the Bible. Thesan FR4- Thesan is the dawn bringer goddess in Roman Mythology. Arminius D- Arminius is a Germanic general who beat Varus(Roman general) on his attack on the German tribes. Cocytus(that one scout rifle from gun smith, I dont know the numbers)- Cocytus is the river of suffering in Greek mythology. The Destiny symbol- 3 sides, 3 wise men in the Bible, gave 3 gifts, 3 times fenrir was tied, 3 kids of Cronus, 3 is the first arcane number (1 is a point, 2 is a line, 3 is a triangle, which is a shape), Fortius and Altius and Maximus, a Roman triumvrate. Stone age and Bronze age and Iron age. Celtic trinity, the Hindu trinity (Brahman, Vishnu, and Shiva), The moon, planets, and the stars.

Sparechange.25- keep it (meaning just keep the .25) The Trolley Problem- pull the the lever its the right thing to do (an ethical choice between switching a lever on a run away trolley either killing 5 people tied to the tracks or 1 person tied to the tracks)

LDR 5001 is a play on words. 5001 is 1 yard out of the restraining order max. So, 5001 yards is a "long distance relationship."
