I got Thorn year 1 and don't remember the quest being that hard. Void kills were easy to get because of WoC. These "back in my day" posts need to stop. The game is harder now, the grind is just less of a mundane pain in the ass.

Lol I did mine with atheon's epilogue, some void FR and corrective measure. That one night was so much fun. Played crucible for 6hours straight. I kinda wish they would bring back that grind. Oh well.

You did not play year 1 right? Now u can get 385 light from ib, it drops like weed in a garden. Back in y1 you had to raid for max lvl. Nowadays bungie made the game easy for all casual players.
