You said The Darkness is a force, but don't we learn in The Books of Sorry that The Darkness is actually a person? Those Worms seem to be the second in command, if you will. Oryx killed one and then talked to The Darkness himself.

<The powers of the Darkness are simply a force. Like the Light. The Traveler is a primordial entity that lives in a shell. The primordial entity behind the Darkness can also be.>

The worms claim to worship the Darkness, but I don't think that means it's necessarily person-like instead of a force, as forces could be worshiped. Oryx communed with the Darkness, but we don't know if it was actually a communication in the sense that we know of. Maybe the Darkness is a person-like intelligence, but I'd say it's far from certain, and I assume Light itself would also have to be intelligent and person-like (as apposed to just the Traveler/ghosts/guardians/etc.)
