Best pvp sniper for beginners?

I really like high aim assist snipers. I'm OK at getting headshots but snipes that have a high ROF and med impact work too. Also looking for a sniper that is good at close range. I've been looking at devils dawn and event horizon but for now I've been using Glass Promontory. Thanks in advance! Edit: Doesn't necessarily have to one shot supers either but I do need it to res snipe. Edit: It can't take up an exotic slot either.

  • If you can get the new Trials sniper, Winged Word, it's incredible.

    • Defiance of Yasmin is a pretty good one. Low-zoom scope, high aim assist and good handling. Also, I know you said no exotics, but Zen Meteor is a pretty good sniper as well. Low-zoom scope, highest-in-class aim assist, and though the base handling isn't great, injection mold does buff it up to be pretty serviceable. Low-impact snipers like Weyloran's March are good because of their high natural aim assist and handling, but they won't reliably res-snipe.

Any sniper with a high rate of fire and low impact, since they generally have higher aim assist. You'll also want to use low-zoom scopes. The sniper with the highest aim assist you can buy is Bitter Edge 010 from Dead Orbit.

      • If you're starting off run VoG for praedeths revenge or kings fall for defiance of Yasmin. Don't worry about things that can res snipe (although these might... I don't remember with this new update). The higher the impact the lower the AA usually. Then you might settle on a longbow in the end. Devils dawn and that archetype I wouldn't recommend until you get quite confident. Good scopes are ambush Shortgaze and one of the longviews but I forget which one. Also the hunter specific one from the gunsmith is great if you run hunter

      • This is gonna sound like a joke, but if you still have it try the Calcutta. They're great sniper to start of with though they might take time to get used to. Otherwise I would have suggested ldr, longbow or 1k as those are the popular ones, but I'm not sure if you can still get them from packages. The ones the crucible quartermaster and new monarchy vendors are selling looks pretty good, but if you want higher aa and a mid rof I'd go deposition from new monarchy. It has Shortgaze, mulligan, unflinching. Also, check any seventh sense you get. It has 10 less aa than the deposition, but higher rof and can still res snipe. The one the vendor is selling isn't good though so you'll have to rely on rng for one with a good roll. As for close range, anything with shortgaze, longview slr10 or ambush will be best. Just keep in mind that ambush lowers aa. I'm nowhere near any of the best snipers in the game, but I hope this helped.

          • I'm kind of awful with Snipers too, so take this one from someone who actually appreciates the difficulty of sniping effectively. Pick any sniper within the 16 impact archetype, as those can res snipe (anything below cannot), preferably with unflinching, maybe hidden hand if you like the aim assist (I hate it). Personally, I don't give a -blam!- about sniping people out of their supers. Given the time that it takes me to actually line up a shot to kill, I get killed by them 90% of the time. So I might as well accept my fate and work on my strengths. Hell, with the 16 impact you don't even need to head shot - the double tap is extremely quick and you barely get any recoil. As you get better at sniping and more comfortable at laying headshots, you can move up to the stronger archetypes. TL;DR - Max Impact sniper rifles have a very steep learning curve. Keep the Glass Promontory and play with it until you can land quick headshots on a regular basis.
