A clean wipe would be a massive betrayal given that we were promised that our characters are OURS and would follow us through the ten-year life of the game.

They also said How would have a raid. And well look at that no raid.
-
Because no raid in a DLC is directly comparable to a consistent promise that characters would carry over.
-
More than likely the character will but none of the gear which I prefer. Maybe they can institute systems that are flawed to the degree things are now. ex crucible (lag, matchmaking, weapon balancing), PvP affecting PvE when things are balanced... etc etc etc...

Do you have any proof of this?
-
...proof of what?
-
That we were promised that our chars will stay with us for the 10 years?
-
... You mean other than the multitudinous times that DeeJ mentioned it?
-
Yeah can you show me a screenshot of this?

...? http://m.ign.com/articles/2014/12/07/bungie-wants-player-progress-to-carry-over-to-destiny-sequel This is just one example, easily found via web search. If you've been paying attention to Destiny for a while and listening to DeeJ and the devs, this has been a very consistent promise from the beginning.

the interview was prior to the reign of the new CEO. Not that it would make a difference but when you have a new captain on a ship things do usually run a bit differently. I would hope they understand what is would do to the player base but they haven't kept "promises" before.

Don't think they ever made a promise just said some things
-
You apparently weren't playing at launch. They betrayed a number of their big promises way back then so I don't see how anyone could think their characters would carry over. That would be entirely too much work and too much lost revenue due to the amount of development it would take. Bungie likes their money hats....

Exactly.
