Datto took his time with this guide, he made it nearly perfectly, not for views or attention, but simply to help people.
Not for views or attention? Doesn't he make a living by garnering views and attention? Why in the world would he not want views or attention? I think you're mistaken.
Not that there's anything wrong with it. I just think you're wrong
• Does a teacher teach just for the money? Usually, no, most would say it's more than that. Same here with Datto I would hope. Sure, you can say they teach so they can get paid. But the occupation is not based off of money (or, in Datto's case, views and likes) for the most part. More money to be made else where. He just wants to be informational. Just the nature of the way he does it draws in attention and views.

 • My wife had a masters degree in curriculum development. She probably makes more money than a lot of people on these forums. She makes more than the average individual income for our state anyway.

 • Well no shit sherlock... still though, you ain't gettin rich by any means... And actually, teachers do put in a boatload of hours off the clock... so they kinda do do it for free.

 • In that case, so does every salaried employee. I work beyond my 40 hours because I want to get ahead...not for love of my company. Do I like what I do? Sure. I attend conferences and seminars after hours by choice. But I can guarantee that I wouldn't be doing the work I do if I wasn't somehow being compensated for it. That's my point. Let's put it another way. If Datto made videos and continuously received zero views, how long do you think he would keep making videos?

 • Not really. Teachers don't grade tests and prepare lectures at the same time as giving lectures or supervising tests... smh.

 • Teachers grade while giving tests. They grade and do busy work whenever they have a free moment. Just confirmed this with a real live teacher.
and sometimes their nice husbands help them correct assignments (true/false or multiple choice) at night so that it goes quicker
• Well they not doing it for fun.... If unpaid work is required then that's what they gotta do to get paid.

 • Well of course... obviously money is a large factor. When is it not, for anything really? But most teachers will tell you, it's the love they have for teaching that is their motivator.

 • My wife is a teacher. She loves teaching children, but she wouldn't put up with the bureaucracy of the school system if she wasn't being paid. Just like Datto wouldn't do what he does if he wasn't making money. If you think he does it just for the love of gaming and community, he has you fooled.

 • I'm not separating the two. It's a fact they go hand in hand for both examples. However, the drive is to share. The necessity is for attention. The teacher's drive is to teach, the necessity is to be paid. They don't do it solely for one thing or the other. That's my point. The OP is saying he didn't make it as just some money grabber video. And I agree. I think Datto did it because it was helpful and he wanted to share. Does he probably get money in the process? I'm sure he does. But it wasn't the money that drove him to make such a detailed guide. He just wanted to help those who watch what he does anyway.

 • I didn't say it was solely one thing or the other. I take issue with OP'S starry-eyed proclamation that it was done just for love of community and to be helpful; that it wasn't done for viewership or attention. That is clearly false. It isn't even something you should be able to argue with a straight face.

 • I mean... he already makes videos anyway. It's not like it's impossible he did just do it to help everyone out. He could also just be a nice guy. At this point we're simply guessing about a motive because ALL videos are naturally there to receive viewership and attention. So, I now ask, is it possible to make a video just to be helpful and not be begging for attention? I think you would might say no. I, however, would say yes. Raid guides, ghost guides, glitches found, new content info updates, these are all usually to help other people out because it's the viewers that are interested in that stuff anyway. Same way with other videos. Is a teacher showing us how to make graphs on a TI-84 graphics calculator doing it for attention? Probably not. Someone showing new and old players alike how to do the never been solved yet highly sought after monitor puzzle? I don't see how they're different. They're both informative. They're both helpful. The only difference is one appeals to a different group than the other. Just because he got a lot of attention means he was out there mainly for attention? Had he not gotten a lot of attention would you still say that? I'm guessing, no. And you can't tell me that it's clearly false his motive wasn't to help people or just try to be useful. There are lots of people on Youtube that do that. Just because they're really big doesn't mean they can't do something just to help people. But again, this is going beyond the video and now guessing the maker's motive.
