Hello again offtopic.
While this has been floating around the internet for years, I cannot think of a time where it was posted on this forum. So I'm here to possibly ruin this childhood movie for you.
Nemo means no one in latin.
When Marlin's (the father) wife and kids were brutally killed in front of him in the beginning, his mind breaks from reality. He raises "no one" and goes on a wild chase to find his son who never existed. Dory, arguably, is just a mentally challenged fish who follows this distraught father's delusions. Pretty dark for a child's movie.

2 RepliesEdited by ishallsmitethee: 9/29/2016 7:20:01 PMThis is why I don't watch kids movies anymore.the internet will come up with some dark backstory about it and I'll have sleepless mornings guys thinking about how much the internet has butchered every kids film to ever exist

Yeah, but what about all the other fish that interact with Nemo and even say his name? The fish at the school, the manta ray, the fish in the tank, the turtles, the pelican. Hell even the dentist all recognize Nemo as a real being. Nemo also effects the outside world as well; by getting the pebble stuck in the filter. Get that weak shıt out of here you pathetic scrub

Yes I have due to the AMOUNT OF PEOPLE SAYING THIS AFTER THAT FIRST -blam!-ER SAID IT
am triggered
1 ReplyDang. More dark than Up or Harry Potter...

Actually it means this whole journey for Nemo wasn't worth it because Nemo turned to be a useless kid.
-
7 RepliesOr, you know, it's a children's movie

1 ReplyDisney's full of subliminal messages. :P

1 ReplyI knew that nemo was Latin for no one, but I didn't really think about the rest.

1 ReplyBut why are there parts of the movie were you watch only nemo?
-
3 RepliesI thought finding Nemo was about the stages of grief. Maybe I'm thinking of another movie

1 ReplyThat moment you realize....this theory actually makes perfect sense. Then you begin to think of Disney as a whole. Could all of its movies be allusions? How have they gotten away with it for so long without many knowing? Where are they leading us to with these undertones?
-
3 RepliesI thought finding nemo was about being gay.

Are the sharks his sanity?
-
But they made finding dory, doesn't that kinda fill it in?
-
1 ReplyI knew nemo meant "no one," but this theory may be a little stretched. Not really any evidence for it. No doubt there is some hidden meaning to it though, I just don't know what right now.
-
13 RepliesNemo means nameless in latin not no one it's a bit to do with what you mentioned but more to do with the whole 20,000 leagues under the sea story and the Captain Nemo in that.

5 RepliesIf the female clownfish dies, the male becomes female, there's another type of fish that does this backwards, they live in a small school that is ruled by one male, if the male dies, the most worthy female becomes male, but I can't remember the fish's name
-
Sure the literal translation is no one when taken out of context. When referring to a person, or in this case a fish, the translation is closer to not having something to be called, that is, not having a name or nameless.

1 ReplyWhy did I click this... Childhood ruined.

1 ReplyOr... its just a -blam!-ing stupid kids movie with no hidden meaning... I love how people need to make up these dumbass theories, like these movies purpose is to make money by entertaining children theres no hidden story.
