MY GOSH BUNIGE!!!! WHY!!!!
Goodness sakes, I cant say this enough, please don't remove old classes and gear from the game in Destiny 2. I've worked my poor thumbs off trying to get this gear, and I don't want it all to go away. The gear is one of the reasons I like Destiny more than Halo. The fact that I could carry over my gear is why I even bought Rise of Iron. If you make me start over in Destiny 2 I will literally track your employees down one by one [spoiler]Just Joking[/spoiler]. But really bungie, this game will lose so many players if it restarts. Come on guys of the Destiny community, did you really grinds for days in strikes, raids, Iron banners and Trials Flawless runs to have it all taken away. We need bungie to see this, before they ruin it all.
Edit: So I've heard all of your sides, and here is what I think would fit Destiny 2 the best. Unless I can keep all of my gear.
You start as a new character, a new subclass of guardian, the opening cut scene enters on a tale of the original, 'Guardian" (If you were a Original Destiny player it would look like your guardian the day before the game came out.) And talks of the wonders the Guardian preformed for the old tower. It also tells of how He/She fell in one final battle for the City. Then there is the new Story, where at one point you get to meet the ghost of your first guardian who tells you about Him/Her, new campaign and new gear. But then at endgame, original Destiny players get to get sent on a quest that redeems their favorite emblems shaders, ships and sparrows. Maybe even a few choice pieces of Exotic and Legendary Gear. The also get to design an Artifact and name it after their previous guardian and give it special powers.

Something maybe people haven't considered is how guns could be affected in D2. With Bungie trying to make Destiny more competitive, they could remove perks in general. Go for more of a CoD approach. Don't know how that would fit into a looter shooter but then again, Destiny 2 is supposed to be a completely different game.

Listen man I know it's tough letting go of our guardians but i think this is a good idea, Remember the feeling of leveling up and getting new gear and that fresh exciting gameplay. That's what I miss and the first exotic you'll get will feel special. I'd like to start over and have a better destiny experience

Well I think that it could be a good thing to leave the old gear behind and a good way to do it would be by (as a few others have said) having the tower get attacked at the beginning and everything destroyed, your guardian and ghost only just make it out alive...

I'm cool with the gear being left behind as long as I can keep progressing the same character. It wouldn't be very legend to start whole new character each game .

Earning new gear and weapons and having new subclasses would be annoying yet fine in the end but we should be able to carry over our character history and at least our emotes as they wont have an impact on gameplay.

I want it to be fresh personally. It's. not a dlc it's a new game. If it was a dlc I would want to keep it.

It should be a new game altogether, and not an DLC or expansion only, thus no point taking Destiny originals gear over in any way. I am very happy to start brand new with a new story which has time to explain, and brand new mechanics with a game which has no influence on the original.

3 RepliesLet's be real guys. Bungie has already decided on what they want to do. To go back and incorporate all Destiny 1 stuff into the 2nd game would be unrealistic. We are all gonna buy the next game, grind, rank up, and be fine. Even the little things won't transfer, I think. Shaders are oddly one of my favorite things to grind for and I'm not one of the people that wants them to carry over. It just doesn't seem realistic. So you guys are going to react by not buying the new game? Once again, bungie doesn't care. You don't even know how your weapons now will stack up against Destiny 2 weapons...

I think that this fabled "Destiny 2" will be more like a dlc Add on rather than a new game, that being said the dlc will change destiny so drastically that it might not even be recognisable to the hard core players. Im talking New UI, engine changes, rendering and graphics changes, new classes and supers ect. I feel like our guardians will progress from what we have now and continue to grow and change with time. Our gear probably will not disappear but much like what happened in year 1 it will be left behind to clear a path for new sets of gear. They need to refine things, that might mean removing and adding weapon archtypes, it might mean removing subclasses and re working them entirely. This is what i think will happen with destiny 2. If its not an expansion then i think cosmetic gear will transfer across, so exclusive emblems, promotional stuff and emotes might get transferred over to destiny 2. As much as i would love to keep my shadow price to use it 5 years down the line, it seems like it might not be a possibility. Which is a shame. But its not that big of a deal, sometimes its good for a game to restart.

Like, we crash land on Saturn, making our old ship trash and all weapons on board we damaged so bad we can't use them. The Tower was attacked so our vaults were destroyed. But we'll be able to keep our current guardians and light level. However, if you think about it, with every expansion we're always getting new stuff and forgetting about most of the old stuff. So D2 won't be any different.

Eh, the whiny ones will b itch but will be the first in line. Video game is a video game and if you play video games then you will play Destiny 2. Even if it restarts everything. And you will probably see more play for all the people that have friends that play the game now and did not start because they are so far behind, it would now give them the chance to play together.
