In the mission The Walls Come Down, Lord Saladin says "Centuries have gone by and I have learned nothing." In the cutscene following it he also mentions that immortality is not the same as invincibility.
Are Guardians immortal in the sense that they'll never die from age?
-
Saladin said it himself "immortality is not the same as invincibility" guardians live forever as long as there ghosts are still alive

3 RepliesWhat about exos? Their batteries fade, armour rusts? Technically could outlive expectations.
-
1 ReplyNo guardians are not immortal. Wait till the next gen console and they'll all be dead
-
If we eat our veggies and cleanse our colons, yeah I'd say we are.
-
Yes and no. They don't die of natural causes like age or diseases but they can be killed.
-
I don't think so, even the universe will end.
-
During the golden age human lifespans tripled, I assume that's still a thing
-
3 RepliesUntil the Ghost dies your Guardian is invincible.
-
Biologically immortal? Maybe.
-
That would make sense. There's not much point in making powerful wielders of Light if most of them'll die in 50-60 years, plus things like arthritis and joint pain would cut that time in half probably. No, I think Guardians are functionally immortal.
-
8 RepliesMy biggest question. Let's say, hypothetically, a ghost loses their guardian, can't find the body to revive. Can that ghost resurrect a different guardian? Can someone else's ghost revive another Guardian, even if it's Guardian is still alive? We know that Jaren Ward's Ghost became Shin Malphurs because Dredgen Yor essentially permanently killed Ward by consuming his Light with Thorn (presumably), but then why can't Ghosts can't just go revive any old Guardians so long as their remains are found? Can a Ghost only be 'assigned' to one Guardian until his/her Light is consumed?
-
2 RepliesYou'll be immortal as long as you keep buying the DLCs.
-
2 RepliesIronically, we follow the oversoul logic that crota has. To link your death to an object so you wont die if you are defeated unless that object is used. Our ghosts keep us immortal until the ghosts are destroyed
-
Talking about age... I think bungos contract with activision will end in like couple more years, and destiny with it.
-
4 RepliesAll evidence points to that conclusion. Ghosts can completely rebuild a body even after it has completely disintegrated, meaning that they can almost certainly replace/repair any dying or aging cells. So yes, Guardians are immortal and don't even need things such as food, water, or sleep.
-
1 ReplyOnly exos cuz yea
-
2 RepliesWait a minute...say a Guardian's Ghost dies while the Guardian is alive, does that guardian start aging again? Or does he live forever until he/she's KIA?
-
Ya they are, so long as they still have their Ghost they‘ll recover from any amount of damage including complete disintegration. Speculation on my part but presumably they‘re also immune to all diseases and poisons as well as self-sustained (no need to sleep, drink/eat or breathe), and if not they could just die and come back good as new anyway.

Only those who stream on twitch or make YouTube videos. Just ask them
-
You have it right, Guardians can die but are resurrected by there ghost. If you ghost is captured or destroyed then your screwed lol. Salad man is at least more then 400 years old. In the first mission of ROI you ghost states the lift has not been active for at least or close to 400 years.
-
Well yes that is correct...after all saladin says in one of the ROI cutscenes, it was the first time I realised that Guardians could die after being blessed by the Travellers light.
-
1 ReplyGhost dies = One Life
like IRL life
Yes and no, if we arent killed by an external source than yes, we are effectivley immortal. Between ghosts ressing us, and the light healing and sustaining us, even if we do die we usualy dont stay that way for long. Just as well the light provides a healing factor strong enough to prevent or VERY drasticly slow aging(Lord Saladin is at minimum over 400 years old FYI, and he does look a fair bit younger in the opening cinematic that details the fall of the iron lords, than he does when we see him.) All this being said the Hive have ways of permanently killing gaurdians, as well as draining us of light, and can kill or disrupt our ghosts ability to revive us. Areas with high concentrations of darkness are outright lethal to gaurdians(see the taken coven mission, if you try to head toward the mothyards your ghost warns you of this and if you press on you die) Killing a ghost doesnt so much kill the gaurdian as it rather prevents most gaurdians from coming back to life(sunsingers OP) though it is unknown if a ghost from one gaurdian can be used to revive another gaurdian(though this is hinted at being possible in the grimore crucible cards as well as when a ghost is transferred from jaren ward to xin malphur(see the last word grimore cards)) It is also shown that beings who use the light can also kill ghosts as is the case when Felwinter kills Citan and then immediatley destroys his ghost.(see lord felwinter grimore card)
-
Technically yes,we can't die because of our ghost But according to felwinters grimore card the ghosts are not

Immortal, but not invulnerable. Our ghosts resurrect us, and while sitting around writhing they have a small circular shield around themselves. However, if caught off guard for some reason, they can be killed and then if we are killed it is permanent.
