So close to having a lucid dream last night!!!

Okay, so prior to falling asleep last night, I found myself watching videos by this guru dude about lucid dreaming and astral projection. And he showed me a way to lucid dream easily, which I may start doing because it kinda worked last night. I awoke after about 4 hours of sleep and began the process. After I fell back asleep, I saw what he told me I'd see. It's like a bunch of different dreams flying by your eyes all at once, and then you finally get put into one. Mine was involving me waking up from my bed to tell me parents that I had a lucid dream that night, but unbeknownst to me, I was still confined within the dream world. So after I realized I was still in the dream, I still tried to convince my dream parents that I was having a lucid dream and went on to prove it. It was raining that morning so I decided to stop the rain and change the time of day to dusk instead of dawn. But something strange happened. I slipped away from the "lucidity" of my state of mind and ended up just having a normal dream after that. Not sure how it happened, but I know it can happen! And since I've had lucid dreams before and know they can be accomplished, I may try astral projection at some point. If not, lucid dreaming is enough for me. But now I know I can still do it so it has me pumped! I'm currently writing a novel so this is very useful to me if I want to make my novel almost reality and play the part of the main character to help me define and create the story in real life. Have you ever had a lucid dream before? If so, what was your experience? If not, would you ever like to have one? Do you even know what a lucid dream is?
A lucid dream is any dream during which the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming, allowing him or her to consciously perform feats not permitted by terrestrial boundaries, such as flying or weather manipulation.
EDIT: I'm surprised by the large amount of responses. I had a few ask me about the video I watched and here it is. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BJFujtC5nYs

  • I've had the same thing happen to me plenty of times. Usually when I get lucid dreams I only stay lucid for a little bit, or realize I'm dreaming though I'm unable to control anything. Sometimes I get lucid dreams where I'm fully able to control everything, though they don't last very long. And about astral projection, that's a lot more significant than lucid dreaming...you know about spirit guides and such, right?

    • I never had a lucid dream before, because everytime I realize it's a dream, I immediately wake up. As for astral projection, I remember being able to do that when I was little, but not anymore.

    • I have had 1 from what I can remember, but I feel like it changed me and I'm not too pleased about it.

      • I'm a frequent lucid dreamer. Pretty fun most of the time. But there's one thing I can't control in my dreams... You can probably guess... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

          • I had one before. Managed to manually activate it without any prior knowledge of how to. It was a good dream. ;)

          • I had a lucid dream. It was cool. I did a whole bunch of stuff. I apparently forgot about it increasing the risk of sleep paralysis. So, yeah. That ruined the moment.
The luckiest seven you will ever meet
• I was lucid dreaming once and it was so fun. But then after awhile everything got really scary. I didn't know what to do so I had to force myself to wake up.

Controlling your dreams takes a lot of practice. It requires patience and a basic understanding of sleep. I once had a lucid dream but that was on pure luck without even knowing what they called a controlled dream. If you are getting close then good for you, just have patience and you'll master it. Basically, you teach your brain to allow you to be fully aware of you being in R.E.M. Sleep without waking yourself up. That's why many fail when they get close because they get super excited resulting in us exiting R.E.M. Sleep. It's basically tricking us into being aware of being in deep sleep or a more simpler way of putting it, being in the middle of napping and R.E.M. Sleep.

                        • Any tips, OP? Is a dream journal really as effective as everyone says it is? How often should I do a reality check?

                          • Be careful with lucid dreams and astral projection... You do not want to leave your body and soul vaccant. Also, you do not know from where the power to project astrally comes from. I think that you are mettalling in a force you do not understand and am advising you to stop. Some things are just not ment for us to know...

                            • I've tried lucid dreaming many times. I think I've had one or two, but they only lasted for seconds. I usually try to have one for about a week then I'd just stop trying. It takes lots of patience. I think I'm gonna start trying again. I'm a heavy sleeper and I dont have any alarms loud enough to wake me. So I have to do it the good ol fashioned way. Any tips?

                            • The only lucid dream that I ever had was of me just flying around the world.
Flying felt weird though, like I was falling or something.
• Dreams never feel real for me at all. Not even close to the actual waking world. I know what happens in my dreams sometimes but it's like a blur or recalling scenes from a movie.
