Nerfing has ruined PvP

Like honestly. I'm one of those day 1 players. When everything was fresh and no one had any reason to complain. I took a long break from destiny, picked it up maybe 3 weeks ago, thinking I would still do pretty well in the crucible. I main TLW (I honestly just love the gun) but didn't start using it til the House of Wolves expansion. Granted it was seriously an OP primary exotic, it was the only weapon I actually invested time in perfecting. Even through all the somewhat justified nerfs, I still used it with pretty good results. But this isn't about TLW, this is more about the current state of the game. More specifically within the Crucible. It seems now that bungie has addressed every players inability to adapt and completely merged everything, and in turn made the game much harder to enjoy. Snipers are now nerfed to hell, and to be honest I couldn't care any less because it was absolutely no fun at all to get popped from a distance you couldn't close fast enough. I don't use snipers. Not because I believe it was a cheap and infuriating way to get killed, but because I just don't believe anyone deserves to get shat on that bad. It's a bad feeling to lose to one bullet. But guys let's be honest, aside from aim assist, all it would ever take is a sniper bullet to the head to kill anyone, both in game and in RL, so I could only get but so upset. And sometimes I would even go out of my way to commend someone for such an amazing shot, sportsmanship guys. Year 2 was very interesting and fun I think because it was so broken. Hand cannons dominated along snipers. Auto rifles were pretty much non existent, and the shotguns OH MY GOD don't get me started. Year 1 however seemed to be the most innocent and purest.... uh version of the crucible though. No one really had anything to bitch about because the game was fresh. But because people were loosing solely on skill (I really think this is the source of all of our problems in year 3), they cried and bitched at bungie to nerf certain weapons and architypes to help better their chances at winning with whatever weapons they preferred to use. This is where shit hit the fan. Nurfing (primary) and patching (secondary) has officially become the Meta for all things crucible now. I honestly feel like this is where our problems truly began. Once the community knew that bungie is somewhat of a nice guy and will help with crying demands for changes that are convenient for one demographic, it seemed like it was just going downhill from there. Every 4 or 5 months or so another patch is released, including all of those wonderful nerfs everyone has desperately cried for. And I get it. You just wanna win using what you're comfortable with. But at this point it just seems like bungie is literally handing out handicaps to the players who are too prideful to try different things. I'm one of these guys but I've not once cried for a nerf. Even when TLW was nerfed, I still used it. It didn't come without pain. Trust me I e struggled hard re-learning how to use my favorite gun. I still to this day use it, as useless as it seems now. But here's the thing of it, as it stands I'm doing horrible in the Crucible, I shoot blanks more often than not but I still keep pushing to understand how to better utilize my primary. I'm not asking bungie to un-nerf my gun because I know how to ADAPT. I truly believe that the PvP community truly ruined the current state of the game because of the constant nerfing. You ask for auto rifle nerfs, and inevitably another class will become the Meta. This is a completely redundant cycle that we keep allowing to happen. I say just take us back to year one and keep it that way. At least until Destiny 2. EDIT*** Awesome responses guys. All I'm getting is honesty and I couldn't ask for more. And thanks for it badgering this post, you guys are awesome.

  • Would prefer it more if it was much harder for people to run entire games with just their specials. Spawning with special ammo and not dropping it, or some of it, on death leads to some long games against matadors...

I agree with you 100%. PvP IMO right now is worse than Year 1. It's not fun anymore.

      • Whenever I think about balance in the Crucible, MW2 comes to mind. That game was beyond broken. Killstreaks were OP, submachine guns could shoot through walls, assault rifles were laser beams, sniper rifles had auto aim across the map and shotguns had triple the range of what our shotguns have. Yet, I never saw anyone complaining. In its own way, the game was balanced. Every weapon or tool had a huge edge over something else, but a great counter too. In its own way, the game was perfectly balanced, with no weapon being a supreme leader anywhere. Maps also offered enough diversity in a small enough space so that players could pick more suitable engagements against the annoying quickscoper or knifing rusher. Destiny devs have A LOT to learn from MW2 in this aspect. Pay less attention to the whiners and design maps with multiple engagements in mind other than extremely tight corners suitable for shotguns, and extremely open, long and wide lanes for snipers to camp.

Yup, just think of how powerful things used to be Hand canons used to hit every shot if your aim was true Auto rifles didn't tickle people (specifically the high impact ones) Pulse rifles just did more damage and had better range Shotguns were mapping making machines, no worries about getting a god roll Snipers didn't make your scope have a seizure when you get hit with some small damage Fusion rifles were consistent Blink didn't put you at a disadvantage in all ways, you could pull out your gun before hitting the ground Arcbolts actually did a good damage Sunsingers Gunslinger It's sad to be playing the game as it deteriorates by bungie's terrible balancing patches.

            • Unfortunately Destiny's Meta is always going to change because the community is always complaining about something in PvP because they can't handle a death or a loss OR because something is just straight up broken. But to me... Sniping is fair. Asides from all the aim assist crap we snipers get, its not fair to us go get nerfed in multiple patches all because people complain about a decently skilled sniper that can actually aim a small reticle to a head from a distance and have good enough reflex and timing to pull the trigger. A headshot is a headshot. Simple. Now, to succeed in the Meta, you have to USE Meta weapons. Eyasluna + Matador + Truth = Meta (?) If you really want to succeed, you have to get into stepping out of your comfort zone and into using Meta tiered weapons if you want to have a better chance at PvP. It sucks because I wish I could use different weapons without raging because someone killed me with a Matador or with an Eyasluna... it sucks but we have to adapt if we wanna compete in PvP.

            • Just return everything to out of the box. !!!!! I hated constantly killed by thorn, but never cried for nerf, got hawkmoon and thorn was an after thought. All to original, then all can use all, and if they die or kill a lot, so fuuuking what. I want real competition! Not manipulated.

            • If bungie didn't wait 5 months before balancing weapons, everyone's complaints wouldn't build up into a shit-storm of nerfs

            • Note just PvP It also effects PVE. The people crying for a nerf is ruining the entire game. You think sniping in PvP is bad with the flinch try doing it with 10 adds shooting at you in pve.

I agree, I am not so much a year 1 player, I started playing destiny about 6 months after destiny launched and I LOVED pvp but now not so much. Now it's just unbearably painfull to play 1 round of crucible. What happened to fun? I'm not a pvp God but I would at least like to enjoy myself playing the game. With every crybaby screaming for nerfs has completely killed this game, how can you expect to get better when you can't even play how you would like to? I think bungie need to just stop catering to nerf herders and bring destiny back to how it used to be...FUN!!

                      • Destiny is a relatively complicated game with literally millions of hours being played. When its designed and adjusted, there is literally no way for them to predict how things will unfold, the ways people will find to exploit things, etc etc etc. Every iteration of Destiny has had its problems, strengths and weaknesses. They are most likely doing their best to make it a balanced, fair and varied experience but like i said i imagine the level of the task is almost unthinkable. I know people will say "its simple, just make X do more damage at X range but remove this perk and buff this gun and etc etc". I doubt its ever simple though.
