For me i just made up a reason why my gaurdians can not speak. The light that brought us back to life slowly faded making us a walking corpse. We gain life at the cost of not living a "normal" one. Our ghost is our voice for now till the light we had in the beginning comes back. Now we are relying on our ghost's light to keep us alive.
[spoiler]my reason why and yes there is alot of plot holes from what i said. I know i am not the only one who makes up stories for my characters to make them feel like they are a part of my experience.[/spoiler]
