Rise of Iron: Another example of Destiny's Wasted Potential

I already know too well that I'm going to cop some flak for this... I don't give a shit. I've been playing since the beta and I've feel I need to say this. It's rant time, and I'm not talking about just another shotgun nerf or an overpowered sub-class... nope, I'm attacking the very structure of the game and how Bungie have failed repeatedly. I don't know what other people thought about Rise of Iron... but personally I'm actually disappointed in it. It was way to short for what I paid for and felt honestly about as long as TDB or HoW... now that's not to say it was of the same quality, oh no. RoI was really well done quality wise, but quantity and content wise it felt like a miss to me. The SIVA is built up as this powerful technology that managed to fight off the Iron Lords and even killed them off... but then we come along and press a button and run off... yer... lackluster to say the least. Then there's the fact that SIVA was made by humans to aid them but wouldn't be controlled by them and turned on them.... but it happily lets the Fallen take parts of it and infuse it into themselves? I feel like rather then just happily letting the Fallen do what they want, it would be more believable if it infected and took over the Fallen, so there would be Fallen vs SIVA Fallen happening. I feel it would be better to have viewed SIVA similar to the Taken; infecting and controlling them rather then being controlled. I feel that there would be SIVA "knights" or "warriors", beings made by the flesh like nano-tech that could change form and had the black, Warsat-like, plating for armor... Instead we just got a rather generic excuse for story that went for an overly simplistic and cliche ending... not to mention that two of the three strikes are literally just remakes of older ones (Sepiks Perfected is actually pretty good... Abomination Heist is even more of a cluster -blam!- then the Summoning Pit so that's a miss there) Now people will argue that Bungie are focusing their attention on Destiny 2... I don't want a Destiny 2, not when the first destiny is in such an incomplete and incoherent stat. Rather then making a new game it would be better if they continued to expand on the current game. It's not just RoI that's a waste of potential... this whole game is just oozing potential for greatness but there doesn't appear to be any rush to utilize this potential and this honestly pisses me off more then anything else Leveling and Mission Scaling: The leveling system is so messed up that each increase in light level just makes old content further redundant. A solid actual level cap gained through exp would be better, then you could have content that has a base level requirement, and then scale the content to match the highest level player in your team. Armour: Gear isn't tiered well. Once again this comes back to light levels. Give armor an actual defense value, and then specify how much damage intake is reduced as a percentage. Gear tiering should go: Exotic - give best defense Raid, IB and ToO - second best defense, allows both PvE and PvP players to aquired the same tier of gear Legendaries - third best gear All of the above mentioned gear would have a level requirement to equip them as with normal gear and the defense level would be infuse-able as it currently is as well. Weapons: Weapons are the same, the fact that a weapon I don't have in hand is affecting my level is ridiculous, not to mention that bars to show things like RoF, damage and so forth is absolutely idiotic. I'm sorry but look to Division for this one. They actually give you hard stats as numbers that can be understood far more easily then a bar. Stability? Look to siege with how they show bullet spread against a human target.... THAT is how you easily show a weapon's stability/accuracy... not a bar that means nothing This is because the bars value changes completely based on what weapon class you are looking at. Mission Progression: This is the real showstopper for me, this games mission progression system and series of events is so slapstick and out of align that it's almost comical. Bungie tried to do too much and ended up doing too little. Rather then trying to have 4 different planets and 4 different races, they should have started with a much larger area on Earth and focused purely on the Fallen with a reworked story to have RoI incorporated into Vanilla Destiny with a tast of what was to come later from HoW - Earth + RoI -After that should have been the introduction of the Moon and TDB in a far more fleshed out scenario with the Hive coming out from underground onto the Earths surface. -Then we move onto the Vex on Venus as well as HoW -Then would be the Cabal on Mars and finding the heart of the Vex in the Black Garden -Finally would be TTK Each place being far more expanded then what it currently is. And rather then having TDB, HoW and TTK all come out in the same year, it would have been better to just do 1 larger DLC ever 6 months. Destiny in its current state is in no position to even consider getting a sequel. Especially when new players can instantly use a Spark of Light, instantly hit level 40 and have excess to every mission except for those in TTK and RoI. There's also the set up... tower > orbit > mission > orbit > tower... Why can't we just stay on the planet, and run to the mission location to start it, do the mission, then leave again? Division had no issues doing it, and it allows for a smooth, more enjoyable playing experience. Currencies: Something needs to be done about this, we currently have; Glimmer, Legendary Marks, Strange Coins, Silver and Silver Dust. I'm going to be blunt, Silver and Silver Dust should be done away with. Yer bungie can have vanity items for purchase, but just use the real world currency rather then making your own currency that people have to buy... Loot: I remember in Vanilla Destiny that you would run the Tiger Strikes for that slim chance of an exotic, but when you got one you were elated. You would also run the Nightfall to get the weekly XP boost, flaming head and for the very high chance of an exotic. Three of Coins basically destroyed this. Now exotics drop so frequently that there's no joy or excitement in seeing yellow engrams. Same goes for Xur, it's just too easy to acquire exotics now that they lost their flare. Neither Xur nor ToC should have been in the game. What Bungie has done with strike specific loot is a good idea but, once again, they haven't capitalized on the concept. Just giving people strike specific loot from the chest isn't really enough to get people to open the chest. If say the chest had about the same rate of an exotic as a ToC then it would make people want to open the chest without making the exotic drop rate as ludicrous as it is with ToC since you actually need to have a Skeleton Key But then what of Strange Coins? Well, have it so that they only drop from raids by opening chests, defeating bosses and finishing the raid. This currency could then be used at a raid vendors that will sell you the gear. Obviously it would be quicker to run the raid repeatedly but it let's players get that last piece of gear that RNG isn't letting them get. And this brings me to my next point, buying gear for other classes... why is it that I can't by Hunter or Titan armor purely because I'm a warlock? Conclusion: Bungie has been so focused on ADDING better content that they haven't addressed the issues directly. For want of a better way to put it, they are literally sweeping the mess under the rug and trying to hide it. Don't make a sequel, fix this mess first then continue to do expansions and content for this game (and stop -blam!-ing over veteran players with the constant Destiny collections *aimed at Activision, the money hungry -blam!-s*). But ultimately I do not see a sequel being in Destiny's favor, especially not to new players. - Make new players have to start from scratch, none of this level booster and all mission unlock shit - Fix existing Destiny content - Expand on this Destiny game for the remaining 8 years of the Destiny contract - Activision... Don't make any more Destiny Collection... Feel free to do season passes though Sorry, no TL;DR End of Rant

I truthfully believe that D1 is so band aided together, consisting of endless spaghetti code, that with D2 they have started over. They are probably using some character models and stuff, but that is about it. I don't think Bungie could save this IP without starting over with the sequel. They will never admit this of course... It's more than obvious in-game though. It was in year 1, it got worse in year 2, and now onto year 3. The economy in D1 was just as big of a cluster -blam!- as it is now.

Y1 considering what Bungie did could of taken off in the right direction. You have to remember even though it's Bungie's falt for signing a contract with the Devil. The Devil play's are part in this as well. I know you know this but I can't stand how gamers defend Bungie knowing they knew what they were getting themselves into. Gamers that defend Bungie is like saying. It's not my fault I got into an accident I was drunk. That's how freaking stupid some gamers are today. IT doesn't help eather knowing the writer that created Destiny stoy quit. Even though Bungie will not admit it, they trashed his work. I know I wouldn't stick around... Now you have Luke smith that has no idea on what the hell he is doing and is trashing what the original creater made. The company within itself is a huge mess that every Deej has opened that hole in his face when he shouldn't and has had to retract some of the things he said. This game has been worked on for almost a decade and it is nowhere near where it should be.

At this point I am not sure the game actually ever had "potential" We just want to think it did. We also want to think maybe the next one will be done right. None of this is likely true. I now think it will be destiny 2 where we finally wind up with full all out pay to win in the game how bout them apples.

              • Lol, Bungie doesn't care about quality only quantity, rush out DLC and make community pay them to play test it. Destiny has always been about paying maxxxxxxx money with zero return. This game is nothing but a giant triangle scheme. They'll rush out D2 and people will gladly fork over $150 for the collectors edition, then keep rebuying the game every time a new DLC comes out.

                • My primary complaints are that the story was too short and that there isn't enough endgame. I was expecting the Kstov and the Ghorn quests to take days or maybe a few weeks to complete, but I managed to get Kstov done in just an hour while exploring the Plaguelands, and I also found most of the Iron Lord Medallions at the same time. After I did those, all I had left to do was the Crucible quest, the raid, and Thorn. Sure I have the entire record book to do, but that doesn't have anything with the story, SIVA, or the Fallen. It's just busy work. I think they should have held off so that they could make a longer story, come up with some more activities for us to do at the end, and released it in December.

                  • The division is shit. Stop comparing these two games, and go shotgun noob in the dark zone behind a unexpected players back. Destiny is a hundreds time better than that garbage.

Part of living is to make mistakes. Some would argue that the meaning of life is to make mistakes, after all if you never made a mistake how can you learn and grow as a person? Destiny has been around longer than the division, we could argue that if destiny was never made their wouldn't be a division game fact of the matter when your in this business of gaming mistakes will be made and some other game will improve on those mistakes that's why we have so meny games of certain type of game like shooter or RPG or free world cuase they are trying to improve on mistakes they made earlier and are learning from other people's mistakes. Although I do see your points I also see your waste protentional here in trying to be so negative look at the postive and learn from the mistakes.
