[b][u]Bungie Confirmed[/u][/b] Each infection creates a disruption/corruption in your guardian's light which weakens your link to your ghost. The infections' effects are cumulative. There are buffs to XP and reputation gains by being infected, but there are also significant negative consequences that will kick in once RoI drops and SIVA is released into the game world. When an infected guardian is first exposed to SIVA, the SIVA mutates the existing infection(s) and the following negative effects are applied, in order, based upon how many first-instance infections were contracted: 1. Diminished shield strength 2. Diminished shield recharge 3. Increased susceptibility to all elemental damage 4. Diminished weapon damage 5. Diminished super, grenade, and ability recharge rate These are very similar to strike and nightfall modifiers, such as trickle, elemental burns, etc., and will remain in effect until the community is able to solve the mystery of the origins and delivery of the first-instance infections thus allowing a 'cure' to be formulated and distributed. It is very likely that Bungie is doing this to ensure that the new content, in particular the new raid, is not completed in a day or two as has happened every time in the past. They can't make more or harder content so instead they weaken our guardians through an in-game mechanism that we, the players, actually embrace and propogate. Clever, clever creatures.
