Lost Access to Taken King content

I purchased the Taken King last year (It shows up in my PSN purchase history for 9/14/15), and I was able to play it fine in the first few months. I ended up taking a break from the game around April before a bunch of updates happened, and now the game thinks that I don't own the Taken King anymore despite the fact that I have Taken King weapons, armor, grimoire, etc. I already tried restoring the game's license through PSN, but it didn't work. Can someone help me? I don't want to have to repurchase the Taken King, especially if it means I can't play Rise of Iron.

  • UPDATE: After contacting Playstation support, I learned that because I purchased the Taken King on a PS3 and then subsequently upgraded to a PS4, I wasn't given a license to the Taken King DLC because it is non-transferrable (despite the base game and all prior expansions being transferrable). Playstation said I need to repurchase the Taken King, and that I should take this up with Bungie since they are the developers of the game and are the ones controlling the transferability of their DLC. Below is the transcript from that chat session. But seriously, what the actual -blam!-?! Why does it feel like I'm being punished for buying this content on an older console, and then upgrading later to a PS4 afterwards? You're screwing over the player base that bought the Taken King at launch, and then decided to get a PS4 for Christmas. CHAT TRANSCRIPT Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 11:40:58 AM EDT): Hello, My name is Franklyn how may I assist you today? Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:41:23 AM EDT): I think my game license for Destiny: The Taken King was lost/deleted Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:41:50 AM EDT): I purchased the expansion in September of last year (it's in my PSN purchase history), and was able to play it fine, but now I come back to the game and it says I have to buy it again Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:42:06 AM EDT): I tried restoring my game licenses on my PS4, but it didn't work Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 11:42:38 AM EDT): I am sorry to hear you are having problems to find the DLC Glenn. I'll be more than glad to help you out today. Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 11:43:14 AM EDT): Do me a favor, please access into the following link and sign in at the upper right corner of the web page: https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/home/games Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 11:43:37 AM EDT): Then, go back to the upper right corner and highlight your online ID. Select (Download list) and look for the game. Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 11:43:43 AM EDT): Then, hit (Download to PS4) Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:44:57 AM EDT): Does it matter that it says it'll download to a PS3? Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:45:30 AM EDT): I originally bought the game on PS3 and then shifted my account to a PS4 last Christmas Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 11:46:31 AM EDT): I understand Glenn. I am sorry but it seems you own the PS3 version. Do you need to download the PS3 or PS4 version? Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:46:41 AM EDT): PS4 Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:46:55 AM EDT): Shouldn't they be the same though? Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:47:10 AM EDT): I was able to play the Taken King just fine when it first came out on my PS4 Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 11:49:03 AM EDT): I am really sorry Glenn. According to the developer. The taken king is sold separately. You can confirm that in the following link: https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/search/f=%5Ethe%2Btaken%2Bking%7Cbucket~games%3Agame_content_type~addons%7C Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:50:23 AM EDT): So let me get this straight? Because I originally purchased the Taken King on a PS3 back in September of last year, it didn't give me a license to the PS4 version when I migrated my entire Destiny account over? Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:50:36 AM EDT): Why would it give me a license to the base game and not the expansion? Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:50:45 AM EDT): A PS4 license I mean Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:51:39 AM EDT): If the PS3 and PS4 versions really are separate, then I shouldn't be able to access the game at all, yet it's only Taken King content that is the problem. Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 11:53:27 AM EDT): I understand Glenn. Please allow me 2 minutes while I research the licenses of this DLC for you. Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 11:56:40 AM EDT): Thank you for waiting Glenn. Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:56:59 AM EDT): ok Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 11:58:06 AM EDT): I have done a research for you and according to the developer of the game, this DLC is not transferable. Both DLC are not compatible with the PS3 and PS4. My most sincere apologies but according to the developer it won't be possible to use the DLC you own with a PS4 console. Sorry about that. Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:58:28 AM EDT): So I need to repurchase it? Me (September 14, 2016 at 11:58:44 AM EDT): On PS4? Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 11:59:09 AM EDT): That's correct Glenn. You will need to buy the PS4 version of this DLC. Me (September 14, 2016 at 12:00:49 PM EDT): I understand, but that doesn't seem right to me that this DLC isn't transferrable. You're screwing over players who were initially playing on the old console and then decided to upgrade to a new one after purchasing the DLC, while having them believe that because the base game will transfer, the add on content will too. Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 12:02:15 PM EDT): I totally understand it may be a very frustrating situation for you Glenn and I do apologize for the inconvenience. This scenario should be handled by the developer of the game since we do not determine the compatibility of the DLC from another games. You can contact them by visiting the web site Bungie.net Me (September 14, 2016 at 12:03:19 PM EDT): I've read similar accounts from other players complaining on Bungie.net, and Bungie's answer is for us to talk to you guys, so you're both just blaming each other for this lapse and shuffling us back and forth. Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 12:04:40 PM EDT): I do apologize Glenn. I wish I could give you the option to use the PS3 version with your PS4 console. Unfortunately it is not possible according to the developer of the game. You should contact them for more detailed information and let them know you were referred by PlayStation. Me (September 14, 2016 at 12:05:09 PM EDT): And what do I do when they inevitably refer me back to you guys? Me (September 14, 2016 at 12:05:35 PM EDT): Saying that it's a problem on your end, not theirs? Franklyn (September 14, 2016 at 12:07:12 PM EDT): I am sorry Glenn but this problem is not on our end. Please keep in mind we are not the developer of this game. The compatibility of the game is out of our hands. It can only be determined by the developer since they are the creators of the game. They should be able to give you more detailed information about this title.
