I transferred my data in the trial version of Destiny on Xbox One, thinking I would then be able to purchase 'The Collection Upgrade'; obviously I can't. Great. No transferable progress for 1000+ hour game and no idea when I'll be able to actually even play the current game. Thank-you so much Bungie, you're great.

Did the same as you with the same hope! But didn't have any luck. You were able to access your full character though right? According to sone postz further down they're working for a fix to be out by Wed/Thurs, so don't despair too much!
