So anyone else notice a great deal of film grain?

It's overwhelming how much of it there is, in the U.I and in game. If you want to see it even more go to the post master and see how terrible it is. It's already bad enough we're all stuck playing this amazing game at 30 frames, Now we have to sit here and play it with this too?! Guy's c-mon... you're better than this. (Update) still grainy.. but I thought you guys and gals would like to know that exotic boot engrams are decrypting past 335. Although you should still save them till expansion for a chance at the new items. I tried 2 boots and one was 337 then 334. Seems like a hit or miss situation. (2nd update) trending! let's hope someone notices this. For the record, giving guardian's the choice to have it on or off would be my solution. Being given the Choice is always the best course of action. (3rd update) just to be clear because some are questioning my setup. I have a 50inch led tv, patch is live and running fine. Hdmi cable is fine as well, tried switching just to check still graininess remains, tested other games and as I suspected this issue is isolated only to destiny. It was not there before patch, but as soon as I finished downloading it I loaded up and from the character select screen and it was noticeable, even more so when looking at the background of the post master. (Last update guys going to bed) firstly, thank you to all guardian's who helped bring this to light, and for those who kept it civil doing so. We were successful in gathering enough light to summon iron lord Cosmo! Let's hope they can get to the bottom of it. Good morning fellow guardians, just though I'd let you all know that I tried taking a pic, but film grain isn't something you would notice on a still frame. Tried recording and for some reason (probably lowers quality when you record) its not as visible. But trust me it's there. I imagine cozmo wouldn't have responded so fast if it wasn't. Reading further into his response it's clear to me this was not intended, so for all the unnecessarily negative comments out there please keep it civil. As with most patches bugs such as this are common place. We as a community have already done our part by bringing it to their attention, now it's time to let them get to work, and it wouldn't hurt to give-em some words encouragement. God forbid if we thanked them! ( initiating sarcasm.. thanks alot deej!) J/k tips hat to fellow warlock. (What we have confirmed thus far) *It's affecting both consoles. *There are some who are reporting that they don't have the issue, which confirms that this was not intended or else everyone would see it. *Many testify to it not being there prior to patch including myself.( this post was made within minutes of loading up after the patch was live for me and noticing the obvious difference. ) *Seems worst in dark areas. (The dark blade boss fight is reported to be the worst so far.) I'll try and keep you all apprised of what I find as I find it. And for those genuinely trying to help by leaving a comment, thank you all, and sorry in advance if I didn't get to you. This is my 2nd time posting on the forums so I'm new to managing all this. Last update! (unless the hot fix fails that is) In the recent update by bungie, they announced that on monday (19th) they'll be launching a hot fix to get rid of this film grain glitch that's affecting so many guardians. In the immortal words of Fox Mcloud.. "mission complete!". thanks goes out to everyone for standing behind this and raising enough light to get bungie's attention, this could not have been done without your continued support of this thread so thank you all. I have been lurking these forums since day one, This was my second time posting on the forums in the 3 years I have been playing this game due to how terribly toxic the community can be. But today, my faith in humanity has been restored. We did it guys, (well bungie did actually). And to iron lord cosmo.. from a fellow Guardian, I salute you and your entire team of amazing devs. Thanks for keeping your word and for you continued support of this amazing game. And to the bungie team. You guys had a rough start in year one with the beginning of year two showing some serious promise(though the content drought that followed after should never be repeated please) i have always understood that destiny is a ten year game and I am here for the long haul, so Don't let me down. I stand with bungie. See you later space cowboy's.

  • Also just noticed it now, thought it was the TV (BRAND NEW) 50" 4K Panasonic display, assumed it was upscaling issue but wasn't noticing it on videos or other titles etc. Did a quick google and found this thread, it reminds me of the film grain effect from Mass Effect series but you could at least turn it off. Anyway, I'm also having this issue most noticeable in the post master too like you said.

  • Please fix this, its getting really annoying. I get you guys have your weekend off but i really want to play and cant because the grain agitates my eyes and cant look at it for long. If you mucked it up in a night try to fix it relatively quick please?

The graininess is obvious, I as well noticed it as soon as I loaded the game after the update. It's especially obvious in the menus and if you're looking at the sky in the Tower. This isn't a TV settings issue, first of all it's not there before the update and it clearly goes away and comes back when you're moving between menus. Go to the character screen and move between the menus for the subclasses, weapons and armor and you'll clearly see it going away and coming back. As others have mentioned you can see it on the Postmaster screen also. It's also present in game at which point it's more or less obvious depending where you're looking or how fast you're moving around. Also my son has his own XOne hooked up to a different TV and the same exact thing is happening on that one. Both TVs are high-end Sony 55" LCDs with great pictures that have no issues with other games, movies, etc. It's one of two things, it's either intentional or not intentional and Bungie should let us know and hopefully roll that change back or give us the option to toggle it on or off. I for one find it to be a downgrade and uncomfortably distracting. If it's necessary because of the upcoming weather effects or whatever then Bungie should explain why and that might make it easier to live with but my vote is please get rid of it or give us the option. Hopefully a decision maker at Bungie reads this and considers the feedback, thanks.

    • Yeah, it's a problem that has to do with Destiny itself. In relation, has anyone noticed that the sound effects seem to be really low and quiet, almost like the audio is muffled? I know it's not my TV of hdmi cord because they both work fine on other games.

    • Yeah it's not to bad on my kid's 40 in, but super noticeable on the 60 4K, :€(. Hope this gets resolved soon. At least prior to RoI.

    • From what I remember, yeah it wasn't there before the update but as compared to others as to how noticeable it is, for me it's not so much and it barely makes a difference...

    • I must be a lucky one, I hardly notice it aside from a little bit in my inventory screen. But as far as gameplay goes, I can't notice it at all. Just some speculation but I wonder if monitors and brightness/contrast settings help minimize it? I've seen a bunch of people say they don't notice it and a bunch say it makes the game almost unplayable. That being said, people shouldn't have to change the settings they have been using for who knows how long to get rid of it, so I hope Bungie hot fixes this soon cause I imagine it can be pretty distracting. I used to do some video editing and grain effects look awful when the effect is set too high.

        • I noticed it on Venus when doing patrols. What we all are experiencing is that same grainy effect that appears in the beginning stages of when a Vex or group of Vexs teleports into the play field. Maybe when coding for RoI, something got buggy.

          • Yeah, it's pretty bad with the grain right now. Completely kills the lighting effects and everything that was awesome about Destiny's graphics. Alak-Hul's lair is really bad. Lost all immersion from normally fighting him in the dark with the bright grainy effect going on in there right now.

            • I know this is a noob question but what does the grain look like, is it just white dots on the screen?

              • Was doing darkblade strike, in the boss room there is definitely a lot of this grainy effect. My display has been grand everywhere else, so I thought I wasn't affected. But me and my fireteam noticed this and it really makes the game look crap.

              • Its worse (in my case) with the tv in game mode. Seriously bad like someone put a film grain photoshop filter over everything. Changing the tv's picture mode can make it much better like in cinema mode. But changing the mode makes it unplayable due to the screen lag. The ROI splash screen still looks sharp, but once you get into the game the grain is covering everything. Thats on a 65" 4k/HDR set with an Xbox One S with 4k input turned on the box.

                • Is the film grain a glitch or intentional? It seems to fit Rise of Iron's style. I kind of like it tbh.
