Skill Based or Connection Based Matchmaking: THE DEBATE

Destiny should use connection based matchmaking

Judging by the success of my last debate thread, which was the debate of raid matchmaking, I've decided to make another debate thread. This of course being should Destiny have skill based or connection based matchmaking in the crucible. Let the debate begin! Skill Based Matchmaking Skill based matchmaking keeps the crucible, a competitive multiplayer mode, competitive. No longer are games complete steam rolls. With this matchmaking system, every game is close. It makes it possible for bad players to still have fun, because they will play other bad players. Very good players will also be happy as it creates a more challenging atmosphere for them. Players can continue improve as they will gradually play better people as they improve their own skill. With connection based matchmaking, the crucible will no longer have those close games that are very fun and suspenseful, as both teams are an equal match. While some people may say that sometimes top players want to unwind and not have to go try hard for a couple games, I would disagree. The Crucible is suppose to be a competitive game mode. If you're not in the mood to play your best, you shouldn't be playing crucible, or at least be prepared to loose. Connection Based Matchmaking Destiny needs connection based matchmaking. Most players experience more matches filled with lag, than steam rolls. It can also be argued that players wont improve if they don't face people better than them. Getting steamrolled every once in a while is actually a good thing, as it shows how you can always improve. Getting to play a match and loose is better than getting halfway through a match and lagging out. With skill based matchmaking, you can't even improve your game, because the enemies you constantly get in lobby's where everyone is red bar. How do I improve my sniping skill when the enemies I face are teleporting around the map due to lag? While some players say the crucible is a competitive mode, and you should always we ready to play your best, I would disagree. That statement would hold mostly true if Destiny had ranked playlist, but it doesn't. So if I am a top player, and just want to have fun with a bad weapon for a bit, I shouldn't be forced to play the toughest competition. Comment your opinion down below! And let me know what we should debate next time!

  • You included the "other" option purely for the sake of having a penis poll didn't you?

    • SBMM. Why do all you pussies want to play against noobs so you can steam roll them. Grow a pair and play against people of equal skill.

      • They should definitely base it on both skills and connection then stick shotgun users in their own bull set

It's luck based match making. Not even luck, Bungie will match you into the worst settings after you demolish the match you were just in. Next thing you know, melees won't connect, spawns are terrible, teammates aren't playing, I can't believe people are still arguing over this. I would love the match making settings to be skill based or connection, either one is better than this rigged piece of shit.

      • As long as skill based matchmaking doesn't work anyway we may as well go back to connection based matchmaking

        • What I personally would love to see, is if you go red bar for longer than 10 seconds, you get kicked back to orbit. Might not stop the fabled lag switchers, but it will stop those who just have piss poor internet connections. Yeah, it would alienate players who can't control their connection speeds due to their region, but so be it. If you want a well running game, sometimes you have to make sacrifices.

          • Voted CBMM, I do like to play against equal skills but there is no skill involved by people shooting thru walls or getting shot in the face and don't die because they are actually behind you...

          • Disagree. 1. CBMM vs SBMM is not an all-or-nothing situation. You can have MM that combines elements of both..and the best of both. 2. "Most players" dont' experience lag with SBMM. In fact "most" players won't be able to tell the difference. The people will be those at the extremes. 3. New or low-skilled players DO NOT LEARN OR GET BETTER by being thrown into matches with players that are significantly better than they are. That is simply a recipie for forcing them to quit...and why many comp FPS are stagnating. They're player bases have stopped growing...or are in fact starting to shrink. Which is why you never hear new players complaining about SBMM. It is almost always elite players who are complaining about "sweaty, laggy" matches. Who either need to look dominating for the Twitch streams or YT channels. Or want to argue for their "right " to beat up on lesser players. 4. The reality of CBMM----and the Bell Curve----is that the Average player is not going to notice any real difference between CBMM and SBMM. Because the vast majority of players are about their skill level ANYWAY. But if you'are a low-skill or new player, you will spend the vast majority of your time playing against people who are SIGNIFICANTLY better than you are. The game will move too fast for you to understand what's going on or to learn from your mistakes. The whole experience of playing will simply be one of humiliation and frustration. But if you're a high skill player, the vast majority of your time will be spent DOMINATING players who are significantly less-skilled. Which is PRECISELY what a lot of people complaining want. They aren't bitching about lag. They're bitchign about K/D ratios going down...and montage videos that are getting more difficult to make.

            • High ping is the source of over 90% of the lag, shooting through walls, players running into walls, etc. CBMM would alleviate most of these issues.

            • Whatever it was in year 1, crucible has just got worse with all the new settings, damage referee, mercy rule, lag. Red bars are always at the top unfortunately, hard to hit someone glitching round the map

            • I'd say connection-based, I'll admit I haven't played PvP all that much, but I recently got Destiny for my PS4 and the games I joined where half-into (and loosing) and not everyone but a few lagged. I had a better experience from PvP when it was CBMM but making it prioritise matches about to or only just beginning would be nice too

            • Ppl should be complaining about the "Damage Referee", not arguing over whether skill/connection MM is better. Getting intentionally detuned in a game is far worse than any amount of lag.

            • The game should be able to have both.

              • People will bitch and moan either way. Everyone just wants a scapegoat for their poor performance in the crucible.

I play on 360 and it's so sweaty I know it's because the player base is so small but damn even in control where it's connection based the player skill level is really high
