Don't get me wrong, I love this game more than words can express. I have over 1300 hours invested and ain't going anywhere. But yesterday I started my final quest before Rise of Iron launches - the Jolly Holliday quest. Three games in and I have been doing decent. Got the quest percentage up to 52% and pretty happy at how quickly this is going.
Then I had two very bad games ... as we all do. But I shrugged and knew it would be better next game. Then I checked my quest tracker .... for whatever reason my progress was erased and I was back down to 22% ... I am sorry, but that is just wrong. I says nowhere on the quest that deaths count against you. I mean, not that one would try to die anyways, but still. I was floored to learn that this was left out of the quest and somehow feel extremely cheated by Bungie.
I can't help but feel like just abandoning the quest even though it's a gun I really want because let's face it ... XUR will be selling it as a legacy engram NEXT September. LOL Does anyone have any advice, pointers, or just wanna share their frustration with me? To know I'm not alone would make all the difference.
My PSN is Jeremiah_VA88 should anyone want to help or play together. I am sorry to rant or seem like I am complaining, but I don't let much bother me in this game and grinding for everything doesn't phase me one bit .. but parameters being left out of a quest that negatively impact you is just dirty on Bungie's end.
EDIT: Thanks to everyone for the tips, stories and suggestions. As of last night, I am currently on the "Bide Your Time" step, which is the final step as all I have to do now is wait until the weekly reset next week. I am beyond excited to play with this weapon!!

It's a mixture of luck and skill. If you're not good with TLW you can either equip it before you win a match, before you activate a super or just equip it and get kills with you special. You don't need to get kills with TLW to make the quest progress. You just need to have it equipped.
-
the trick is not to die more than once in a row. it's 1% per death, 2% for each consecutive death without a kill. and -4% for every suicide. so, accidentally fall off the map? boom. -5%. Bullshit is what that is.
-
I just finished this quest, well, I did the TLW part in February. But I only just finished it the other day, just waiting for reset now. I'd recommend small playlists. Doubles, or 3v3. It's easier to isolate enemies that way, though it will take longer than a 6v6/rumble, but atleast if you have an off game you don't fall as hard.
-
Try going into classic 6v6.

Equip TLW before heavy or a roaming super and before the match ends, unequip after. Killing sprees give a lot of progress

Wait untill sparrow racing returns, then equip TLW and grind some races,SRL counts has crucible and you won't be dying much so it will be a breeze. IMO the first part is a lot more work than the chaperone is worth, that's why there is no shame in cheesing it with SRL -
It's not exactly hard to do! Just equip last word and the go on a shot gun rampage! If really struggling, when your special is up, equip last word, grab a few kills with your special then unequip last word.... Rinse and repeat. Will take a few games doing that but keep at it!! You would have loved the thorn bounty me thinks!!
-
I can't do it

I don't even think it's worth all the trouble to get, considering that the Chaperone isn't much better than most shotguns. Crucible quests with the death-reseting-progress gimmick should never be implemented ever again, especially with SBMM turning every match into a sweaty lag fest.
-
SRL was the only thing that got me through that quest. Good luck guardian.
-
I put if off for so long cos I'd never used TLW. Took me a day maybe2 to do it. Just ambush people and rapid fire the shit out of em.
-
Don't have TLW equipped. Get your super, equip TLW. USE super, unequip TLW. Get heavy, equip TLW. Use heavy. when out of heavy unequip TLW. REPEAT. It's really easy.
-
I did mine by only equipping TLW right at the end of winning matches. A 1.0 k/d will make you go backwards in bounty progress. Things that give you medals make the most progress. Kill streaks, multi-kills etc.... make it happen faster but equip on wins only is the slow steady method.
-
Equip it when your team is about to win a game, it counts towards your rep. Thats how I did it.
-
Most of us figured this out back in September lol. If mayhem is up, it might be the best way, especially if you aren't too good with TLW. Killstreaks gain massive points. Really the only emphasis is to equip TLW and not die. Good luck. To me, Chaperone was well worth the grind.
some may disagree
Equip whatever gun you want. Get kills. Charge stormtrance. Equip TLW. Stormtrance faces off. Stormtrance ends. Unequip TLW. Equip whatever gun you want. Get kills. Charge stormtrance. Equip TLW...

Quest is sooo easy just get good at using TLW or if your really desperate Play crucible and before the match ends equip last word that adds 3% a win (has to be a win) Happy to help
