Has anyone else been as frustrated as me at Chaperone quest?
Don't get me wrong, I love this game more than words can express. I have over 1300 hours invested and ain't going anywhere. But yesterday I started my final quest before Rise of Iron launches - the Jolly Holliday quest. Three games in and I have been doing decent. Got the quest percentage up to 52% and pretty happy at how quickly this is going.
Then I had two very bad games ... as we all do. But I shrugged and knew it would be better next game. Then I checked my quest tracker .... for whatever reason my progress was erased and I was back down to 22% ... I am sorry, but that is just wrong. I says nowhere on the quest that deaths count against you. I mean, not that one would try to die anyways, but still. I was floored to learn that this was left out of the quest and somehow feel extremely cheated by Bungie.
I can't help but feel like just abandoning the quest even though it's a gun I really want because let's face it ... XUR will be selling it as a legacy engram NEXT September. LOL Does anyone have any advice, pointers, or just wanna share their frustration with me? To know I'm not alone would make all the difference.

I am sorry to rant or seem like I am complaining, but I don't let much bother me in this game and grinding for everything doesn't phase me one bit .. but parameters being left out of a quest that negatively impact you is just dirty on Bungie's end.
EDIT: Thanks to everyone for the tips, stories and suggestions. As of last night, I am currently on the "Bide Your Time" step, which is the final step as all I have to do now is wait until the weekly reset next week. I am beyond excited to play with this weapon!!

Ended up completing the quest in 3 back to back games. Stupid thing is I struggled on PlayStation back in October/November. Couldn't get past 50% after a month of try. I'd have a great game then get wrecked the next lol.

Not sure if it'll work these days, but back when I did it, I went into classic 6v6. Was full of noob players that used horrible fusion rifles & had 0 radar awareness. Got 72% done in one game

I did it accidentally lol didn't even know I had that quest step, was just playing around with the last word and got it in like 2 games

Research it. There are heaps of factors that effect the quest.

Easiest way is to go in rumble with 2 other friends.

Just quickly switch to last word when you're about to win a match, goes up a little and is slow but effective

It's definitely a touch quest, and caused me a week of heartache. I finally hunkered down in a corner on black shield with TLW, felwinters lie, and holders hammer and camped like it was nobody's business.

There are numerous fourm posts, reddit posts etc explaining how the quest works. I am sure that now you understand how the quest step works, you will be able to quickly complete the quest (if you were able to get to 52% in three games). I am a scrub at pvp, or at best average with an approx 1.00k/d, yet I have completed this quest on all 3 characters. Good luck.

I seem to remember that it did say deaths counted against you. It was that Thorn? I forget. Anyway, no I'm not frustrated because I already did it. And I didn't even ham it up like most of these yahoos.

I know many here will tell you to cheese and how to do so. But I myself refused to do that so that quest sat for quite some time not touched. Last week I pulled out the tlw and finished it in 5 games. What I realized what I wasn't doing is that tlw has a amazing rate of fire. Spam the blam out of the trigger. Don't hip fire and don't use the auto fire, they both suck. You can pull off the 4 needed shots before anyone else with any other gun pulls off three. I am finally picking up my chaperone tomorrow! I feel so much better knowing I did not cheese it. Good luck guardian.

Don't equip it until you're having a good match. Also, special, heavy, and super kills all count as long as you have it equipped. If you're having a bad game unequip it until you have a charged super. Equip it, get a few super kills and go back.

It was actually easy for me. I did it in a day when I felt like it.

Just equip it near the end of the match if you know you're going to win. Cheeeeessseeee!!!

3 RepliesIf my scrub ass can do it you can too man. just keep trying. At one point I had it to 90% and I had 2 bad games and I was back at 0% Pro tip: cussing out your tv during crucible will prevent you from folding your console in half

I cheated and did it during speeder racing. If your in a game getting your ass kicked just in equip tlw and re equip it when your in a better game. I don't like pvp

I too am struggling with this quest. Some one just gifted me a tip that I will in turn bestow upon you. When you play crucible, play with any gun you like. If your match has gone well and your team is winning, switch over to last word at around 5 minutes left in the match, and hang back in the weeds. Hide if you have to. For some reason, your progress will go up after the match. DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU'RE HAVING A BAD MATCH. This process is slow but it works.

Play rumble. The last word is incredibly strong there. Or just snipe.

You'll get it eventually. My K/D isn't even 1, and I did it. It's a massive pain, but you'll get it once you get used to the gun. If you're on Xbox One, I'll boost you.
