Has anyone else been as frustrated as me at Chaperone quest?
Don't get me wrong, I love this game more than words can express. I have over 1300 hours invested and ain't going anywhere. But yesterday I started my final quest before Rise of Iron launches - the Jolly Holliday quest. Three games in and I have been doing decent. Got the quest percentage up to 52% and pretty happy at how quickly this is going.
Then I had two very bad games ... as we all do. But I shrugged and knew it would be better next game. Then I checked my quest tracker .... for whatever reason my progress was erased and I was back down to 22% ... I am sorry, but that is just wrong. I says nowhere on the quest that deaths count against you. I mean, not that one would try to die anyways, but still. I was floored to learn that this was left out of the quest and somehow feel extremely cheated by Bungie.
I can't help but feel like just abandoning the quest even though it's a gun I really want because let's face it ... XUR will be selling it as a legacy engram NEXT September. LOL Does anyone have any advice, pointers, or just wanna share their frustration with me? To know I'm not alone would make all the difference.

I am sorry to rant or seem like I am complaining, but I don't let much bother me in this game and grinding for everything doesn't phase me one bit .. but parameters being left out of a quest that negatively impact you is just dirty on Bungie's end.
EDIT: Thanks to everyone for the tips, stories and suggestions. As of last night, I am currently on the "Bide Your Time" step, which is the final step as all I have to do now is wait until the weekly reset next week. I am beyond excited to play with this weapon!!

2 RepliesEdited by TheMachoKing: 8/30/2016 6:52:35 AMI literally just completed this quest. Simple advice that saved my life, and my controller. 1. Play rift 2. Don't have the Last Word equipped 3. See how good the other team is 4. Wait for your super/heavy 5. Sit back and play like a pansy 6. Equip the last word and rack up a few kills with your heavy/super/special ammo. (Headshots count as 2% btw) 7. Unequip The Last Word and repeat steps 1-6 After that grind, took me about 8 games playing as a sunbreaker, you need shotgun kills. Throw on Universal Remote and your Conspiracy Theory-D, jump into control, and be the dirtiest shotgun whore ever born. I completed that step in two games. Finally, grab some buddies and go kill the shield brothers guardian! I'm anxiously awaiting my Chaperone to hit my hands tonight at reset Haha. Feel free to add me on ps4 if you need help. Go on classic free for all with a friend and camp with the last word. Alternatively, wait for srl to return.

5 RepliesI can help you if you want,it's very easy.find 2 more friend invite them in party then go in year 1 map free for all.ask your friend to meet all the time same spot you go find them and do headshot only.i think 1 or maximum 2 games your quest is done.i help so many of my friend like that..good luck enjoy your chaporone....

If you feel like you are about to have a bad game, just equip a different weapon, finish the game, and exit matchmaking and re enter. Thad how I did it

People complain about last word and people are having trouble using this gun then? Is it really that hard to go into rift and place as normal as ever?

Why didnt you do it during SRL? If you have over 3000 hours there is no reason you shouldnt have been able to partidipate in it at all.

Dont use the actual gun. Go in rift put on a sniper and sit back and kill. Use multi kill supers as well. Hammer golden gun and nova/stormtrance. When heavy comes, unequip tlw and wait for the crap to stop then put it back on

Play small team games, and use a character whose super can get a lot of kills, those count towards your total as well. Plus, you automatically get 3 percent from a win, and lose 2 from a loss. Also, using your secondary can help as well, you still get progress for those kills

Went into a game with this quest, I only had like 6% at this point. I got a 1.8 k/d in the game, and when I looked at my quest progress it was at 0%.

Why weren't you here crying about the help zavala etc wage the taken war across etc quest. I had to go on Google to find out I had to do all these other quests first.

People complained about rng in year one. Bungie listened and gave you more quests. Now you bitch that the quests are too hard. God help me.

My first character I ran around with another primary, waited for heavy, equipped the last word, got kills with heavy and super, sometimes a lucky sniper shot, then unequipped again. Took forever it felt like to complete, finally finished got the shield brothers down with a shotgun, was so happy, till I had to wait for armsday again. Next armsday ran and got my chaperone, motes of light to level it up, used it in crucible once, put it in the vault. It's cool looking when you flip it around, but that's about it. A weapon difficult to get and it's really just worth a grimoire card.

This is where I would have said I was in the same shoe as you...........until srl showed up. I didn't even know it helped with the quest till I was almost level 4. When I knew, I just went afk in every race (something I didn't like doing) till I completed it.

Wow great advice here, and I can't believe I didn't know you don't actually have to be using TLW to get the kills. I've literally avoided the chaperone quest on every character I've ever played for the simple fact that I can't seem to hit anyone with that stupid thing.

Done mine in IB. Contoller is easy, don't equip TLW work out other teams route while your super charges . Equip TLW and ambush them with super if uv managed to pick up heavy that's a bonus. Unequip TLW and recharge super. This way any deaths whilst it's not equipped don't count against u. If winning equip at the end for extra 3%.

1. Don't equip TLW 2. Wait til the end of the match when your team is winning. 3. Equip TLW for the last 10 seconds and camp 4. Get 3% Bonus for Team Win 5. ???? 6. Profit I actually found the Shield Brothers to be the second hardest part of the quest and I'm primarily a PVE guy. Our team actually wiped a couple times which never usually happens. Shotgun part is fun. Deaths don't count against you so you can grab a shotty, go max agility, and go apeshit. Can finish that part in a game or two.

Ended up completing the quest in 3 back to back games. Stupid thing is I struggled on PlayStation back in October/November. Couldn't get past 50% after a month of try. I'd have a great game then get wrecked the next lol.
