Don't get me wrong, I love this game more than words can express. I have over 1300 hours invested and ain't going anywhere. But yesterday I started my final quest before Rise of Iron launches - the Jolly Holliday quest. Three games in and I have been doing decent. Got the quest percentage up to 52% and pretty happy at how quickly this is going.
Then I had two very bad games ... as we all do. But I shrugged and knew it would be better next game. Then I checked my quest tracker .... for whatever reason my progress was erased and I was back down to 22% ... I am sorry, but that is just wrong. I says nowhere on the quest that deaths count against you. I mean, not that one would try to die anyways, but still. I was floored to learn that this was left out of the quest and somehow feel extremely cheated by Bungie.
I can't help but feel like just abandoning the quest even though it's a gun I really want because let's face it ... XUR will be selling it as a legacy engram NEXT September. LOL Does anyone have any advice, pointers, or just wanna share their frustration with me? To know I'm not alone would make all the difference.
My PSN is Jeremiah_VA88 should anyone want to help or play together. I am sorry to rant or seem like I am complaining, but I don't let much bother me in this game and grinding for everything doesn't phase me one bit .. but parameters being left out of a quest that negatively impact you is just dirty on Bungie's end.
EDIT: Thanks to everyone for the tips, stories and suggestions. As of last night, I am currently on the "Bide Your Time" step, which is the final step as all I have to do now is wait until the weekly reset next week. I am beyond excited to play with this weapon!!

Considering I finished it almost a year ago, I can't really say it was too terrible.
-
The way I did it was I randomly went into classic 6v6. And low and behold, on the other team, all 100% blueberries that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. But I got a freaking legendary team and just went ham. I went on like 15 kill streak in between HoS and heavy round? I ended up going like 27 and 3 or something? Mercy ruled them in just a few minutes. Went from 12% to 100%. It's all random bud. Just keep plugging along and trying different things.
-
Did this a little after ttk launched but if I remember correctly its all about kill streaks. I went up and down with the % but then I got a 10 or 15 kill streak and that pretty much completed it for me. Pick objective based pvp modes and be very careful. Good luck.

I've had this done since the pulse meta when TLW sucked.
-
Nope I cleared that quest without much grief
-
Not frustrated at all with it.
that's because I gave up on it fast as hell. Went like this 20%, down to 5, 15% then down to 10, 50% then down to around 20%. Then screw this I'm done.
I DONT EVEN HAVE THE LAST WORD AND I WANT THE CHAPERONE, TALK ABOUT FRUSTRATING.
-
When you get your super equip TLW. Get your super kills the switch off. If you know your team will win the match equip it and hang out till the match ends
-
Edited by InversedReality: 8/30/2016 10:24:34 PMAnytime your team is close to a win find a hidey hole and equip TLW. That got me through most of that part of the quest.
-
I just sat in the back of the map for a whole game. Played extremely careful. A 9.5 KD got it to like 70%+ in a single game.
-
Use your supper with the last word equipped. Get credit for kills . Do it in mayhem makes it way easier. I suck at pvp that is how I did it.
-
If your not to good with tlw then use a weapon your strong with until your supers charged, Equip tlw,get kills with super then change tlw to whatever you were using before. I did this in mayhem clash up to about 80%. Used tlw on my hunter until I got ok with it and finished the last 20% as normal.
-
Completed it in 2 games of IB, so no.
-
It's not that hard. You just have to get kills with it equipped. Not with TLW itself. Just equip it when you have a super and get a couple kills then unequip until you get another super.
-
Wait for slr to come back (might be a year tho, who knows). Feel a little guilty, but still somewhat satisfied. Boom you are done.
-
Took me 4 matches... Get on killstreaks and ADS it helps.
-
Took me about 6 hours today to do it all - including killing the shield brothers (did it first go, without wiping). Mayhem Clash is your friend.
-
Play smart, not hard.
-
Cheese it
-
The 'bad game' penalty is brutal.
-
2 games with tlw. 3 games with shotgun. Done.
-
A - hold on to the quest until srl comes back B - only equip it just before a win C - only equip it when you are using heavy or super for kills than unequip it D - don't take it too seriously I suck at PvP but I still managed it without srl (I didn't get tlw until after). I did C.
-
At least tlw is somewhat fun to use But the imprecation, what a pos. Never gonna finish these quests, bc they are so much fun.
-
You just need it equipped but you don't need to actually use it, you can run and gun with a shotgun and still get the quest step.
-
If you're having problems, just play crucible like normal without The Last Word equipped. Every match where you're team is winning, wait until the last minute and then equip The Last Word. Each crucible victory will raise your renown by 3-4% as long as The Last Word is equipped when its over. You don't even need any kills with it. But it'll be slow.
-
I did it during SRL, racing with TLW equipped. If you're having trouble (as I was), you could wait until December. I don't think Xur would sell it, but you never know.
