Don't get me wrong, I love this game more than words can express. I have over 1300 hours invested and ain't going anywhere. But yesterday I started my final quest before Rise of Iron launches - the Jolly Holliday quest. Three games in and I have been doing decent. Got the quest percentage up to 52% and pretty happy at how quickly this is going.
Then I had two very bad games ... as we all do. But I shrugged and knew it would be better next game. Then I checked my quest tracker .... for whatever reason my progress was erased and I was back down to 22% ... I am sorry, but that is just wrong. I says nowhere on the quest that deaths count against you. I mean, not that one would try to die anyways, but still. I was floored to learn that this was left out of the quest and somehow feel extremely cheated by Bungie.
I can't help but feel like just abandoning the quest even though it's a gun I really want because let's face it ... XUR will be selling it as a legacy engram NEXT September. LOL Does anyone have any advice, pointers, or just wanna share their frustration with me? To know I'm not alone would make all the difference.
My PSN is Jeremiah_VA88 should anyone want to help or play together. I am sorry to rant or seem like I am complaining, but I don't let much bother me in this game and grinding for everything doesn't phase me one bit .. but parameters being left out of a quest that negatively impact you is just dirty on Bungie's end.
EDIT: Thanks to everyone for the tips, stories and suggestions. As of last night, I am currently on the "Bide Your Time" step, which is the final step as all I have to do now is wait until the weekly reset next week. I am beyond excited to play with this weapon!!

The sheer number of people talking about cheesing the quest shows you how broken it is

Edited by DSRT976: 8/31/2016 1:03:20 PMDid my chaperone during SLR last December. My advice is do not abandon this quest. Maybe Bungie will repeat their actions again and unfinished exotic quests will grant you this exotic weapon at day 1 of Y3. At day one of Y2 i'm received my Invective and Thorn for free just because there was active quests at my character.

I deleted this quest the moment I found out what it was. Absolutely refuse to partake in this cancer. The gun isn't even good anyway.

I think the SRL was the best for people who dont like play with a TLW I played the quest on October last year and It took me only 2 games and the shotgun part I played with the 4th horseman, so funny when you killed a pre nerf sunbreaker titan :D
-
I did the equip TLW before popping my super...it is a pain for sure. Just got chaperone yesterday and it's kinda fun.
-
I think I'm going to do this when I get on. I need to finish my moment of triumph before the drop. I mean who includes a quest line in MoT, I just deleted them all.
-
If you are tapping out, just wait for SRL. If you want to keep grinding for it, use mayhem clash as a good source for points. It should be complete after 3-4 GOOD mayhem games.

Edited by Seira_Vengeur: 8/31/2016 10:22:32 AMjust wait* till srl comes back

easy peezzy
-
No. I did the quest easy peasy.. Waited until arms day. Got the Chaperone. Used it for like 3 matches.. Then put it in the vault. Haven't touched it since. I don't like shotguns. :x
-
It was really not tough when SRL was around, but since its gone the easiest way is going into rumble with a friend or two to let you kill them over and over
-
Do mayhem playlist with TLW equipped, and anyone is capable of completing it in 4-5 matches
-
I've been doing it the last couple of days and went on a 15 kill streak and gained like 75% in one game and finished the first part of the quest. Keep it up man!
-
If the match you're in isn't going well, you can unequip it and your deaths won't affect the quest. Also the kills don't have to be with TLW so you can camp and get kills with other weapons if you really feel the need.
-
Just gotta gut gud son

Edited by the666guy: 8/31/2016 6:57:33 AMJust so you know, xur will not be selling chaperone as a legacy item because none of the year 2 gear is getting relegated to legacy status the way year 1 gear did.
-
I cheese that one. Not even gonna lie. Ironically enough I still haven't finished the quest, all I need is to do the strike. When Srl came out all you had to do was race with it equipped and it'd slowly fill your progress. Good luck though.
-
Just play rumble. I suck at crucible and was able to get it done within like 6 matches.
-
Just remember its more about kill streaks than just kills. If ur 1for1-ing youll get no where. Main thing is staying alive to keep that killstreak goin.
-
I got tired of making progress, then backsliding even faster. It will take awhile, but I have started to "Cheese" the quest by only equipping it when I know my team is going to win, then there is no backsliding. I only decided to cheese it because I am god-awful with hand cannons.
-
lol.... Remembers Thron quest... Laughs at Chaperone quest... You'll get it. Just don't charge or rush in. Sit back and play smartly.
-
Mine was at 48% and the next game I went 22-8 with TLW and the % dropped to 27%... WTF.... Next game my K/D was about even and it dropped me all the way to 0% I mean what is going on if I go from halfway to nothing at all in 2 games
-
Are you on PS4? I've had similar frustration with this quest. I've wanted to document my progress doing so. I'd like to get a team of 6 together. Make a mini series about it. Use it to possibly help others wanting to get the Chaperone. Compare and share tips after and during matches. Perhaps as a group we can improve our skills with TLW and obtain that awesome shotgun together.
-
Finished that the 1st week of release... back then you just need a TLW equipped but didn't need to actually use it. Worst case scenario get two friends, go into rumble and have them feed you kills.
-
Considering I finished it almost a year ago, I can't really say it was too terrible.
