I don't know. Maybe. NMS's problem was that it was an indie game being hyped with not just the marketing force of a third party but one of the major platform holders. Had Sony not adopted it as some flagship title, which is was never intended to be, then I bet the reception right now would be exponentially higher. NMS was meant to be maybe a $40 digital only game that catches people by surprise.

 • Yeah I think it would not be so bad if it had been $40 and not so publicized. The extra $20 feels like either a hype cash grab or an attempt by Sony to recoup its advertising money.

 • I don't know if I blame Sean Murray. I think if you're a small indie dev which had been plagued by a series of unfortunate events and Sony came along with their deep pockets to help you it'd be hard to not go along. I think everyone, the devs, Sony, forums, all got way too wrapped up in this game. Like people were hyping this game up more than something from Naughty Dog or CDPR and they're maybe the two best studios in the industry and two of the most technically proficient in terms of scale and visuals. It was -blam!-ing insane to watch.

 • It's insane and still evoling. I think sean in responsible for many of the inflated ideas of what the game actually is

 • People on YouTube and forums are responsible for that. Sean says, it will be extremely unlikely to ever run into another player. Next day there are 50 videos hyping up playing with your friends and claiming to tell you how to find them in game or at least speculating on how to do it. If anyone actually just watched the game play videos before release they'd have seen what the game is. They could have watched the streams of people who had it a week early and known absolutely what the game was.

 • Sean was part of the hype with double talk and misinformation. This is well documented
