Only because they perceive us as a threat and act in self defense, however if you gain it's respect and show yourself as the alpha you can tame one

you could say the same thing about tigers and bears. The problem is pets and children are in perpetual danger around wild predators

If you leave your pets or children out in the wild without supervision then you deserve to be the one who is killed.

By the way... Wolves will kill dogs (but so do cars and other things), and there have only been two unprovoked attacks in humans by wolves in the past 150 years (and both times the wolves were sick and injured).

You leave your kids and/or pets in the backyard unattended?

You make your kids and pets wear bulletproof vests and never let them walk more than 5 inches away from you?
