Best PvE Fireteam compositions?

Let's be real, this topic is utterly meaningless. First, you team up with those who you know (or LFG into) who are doing the same thing as you, it's not like you often have your druthers in terms of class, much less subclass or talent selection. In addition to that, "PvE" encompasses a HUGE variety of activities, and each of those activities (in the cases where the difficulty level is high enough to warrant any strategy at all) has different ideal setups, even before you get into the modifiers that are the most likely determining factor in what you equip and setup. Making an ideal fireteam composition is not just an exercise in futility, it's an oversimplification and nearly as much an example of intellectual dishonesty as it is intellectual creativity. With that disclaimer out of the way, let's get to it! I like to think of strategies and synergies, so I'm going to post some of my thoughts, I'd love to hear yours! Just because it's not helpful doesn't make it not fun :-) Fireteam #1: It's Super Effective! Member A: Defender Titan - No Backup Plans, Monte Carlo, Blessing of Light, Unbreakable, Relentless, Iron Harvest. Serves as "Tank". With a perpetually recharging Overshield + Blessing of Light, should be able to survive just about anything, allowing them to be front and center and keep pushing forward. Iron Harvest means after triggering the overshield and ensuring its cooldown is less than the remaining time they can switch to a heavy and start generating orbs. Their role is to get the attention of enemies and soak incoming fire. Member B: Nightstalker Hunter - Skyburners Annex, Telesto / Dark Drinker, Black Hole, Light of the Pack. Serves as "Crowd Control". Ensures orbs are generated all over the place, converts their own special energy into constant debuffs on the enemy. They are constantly throwing out tethers which they are converting using their massive AOE damage (from either Telesto or Dark Drinker, both are effective here) into massive amounts of Orbs to keep the virtuous cycle going. Member C: Gunslinger Hunter - Celestial Nighthawk, Black Spindle, the rest really is up to you. Serves as the "Headhunter". Ensures Ultras / Majors go down swiftly while the rest of the team deals with the adds, and ensures the fight doesn't drag out long enough that the other teammate's supers run dry for lack of minions to kill. They harvest all the orbs generated by the other two, and convert them into immediate and massive damage to the targets that just really need to die. Overall Gameplay: It's essentially a game of "Leapfrog". The Defender rushes forward and establishes a bubble to work out from, the Nightstalker tethers a massive group of nearby enemies, the two of them clear out the enemies and then just rinse and repeat. The Gunslinger meanwhile focuses on sniping hard targets and otherwise supporting as needed. Thoughts? What's your ideal fireteam, and why? If there's a particular type of PvE content they're geared for feel free to include that! Though the intent of this is not to focus so narrowly that you specify a setup for a particular boss fight in Kings Fall for example, I'm not one to judge what thought exercises you enjoy engaging in, so any and all fireteam composition synergies and optimizations are welcome! Sorry for the rather long post.

  • It's brilliant tethering loads of enemies (I use black hole in pve), then pretty much any other super coming in and taking them all out, especially bladedancer. Looks immense. Orbs for -blam!-ing days man.

            • Thanks for the replies so far! Here's my PvE preferred fireteam composition #2 Fireteam #2: Do you like to play with Fire? 3x Sunbreaker: Scorched Earth, Firekeeper, Melting Point. You just chain supers off each other, creating sunspots everywhere and granting each other perpetual overshields as you roll over the opposition. Not great against Ultras, but great against anything else and absolutely hilarious besides. Melting Point is important for helping against those high health targets. For even more hilarity pair with Taikonaut and Dragon's Breath to really just set the whole world aflame. A more practical pairing would be with weapons that help compensate for your weakness vs Ultras but hey, sometimes it's not about being 100% optimal.

            • Generally defender/nightstalker/gunslinger For pve; a raid comp would just be double of each. Maybe only one gunslinger and the other would be a storm for add control
