If you've played the Shrine of Oryx story mission on the moon, you'll have met this monstrosity. He has a greenish glow around his joints and face with wisps of energy coming seeping out... just like in that piece of Taken concept art.
With these similarities and Sardok's direct connection to Oryx, do you think the Eye of Oryx is a prototype for the Taken?

Guardian, Archon Of LightArchon Priest Of House Light - old
He was a devoted Oryx follower, sent to the moon to guard the shrine, more than likely by Crota. I don't think he is Taken, I just think he is a hive variant -
1 ReplyIRL, he might have been a test of concept for Oryx's forces, yes, but within the universe, Oryx has been able to Take for hundreds if not thousands of years, ever since he killed Akka and became Oryx

He looked more like Crota to me

Certain hive werent taken themselves. Higher Hive maintained their will. We see this in multiple enemy encounters through out the taken campaign and taken war quest line afterward.

1 ReplyHe has the same chest design as Malok

3 RepliesI would say the Taken were developed after spending hours thinking, "What should the new baddies look like?" What about Atheon? He ain't exactly colorful? Or how about Valus Ta'aruc? Now if you want to add something to lore, sure. Perhaps Oryx has more than 3 eyes, and everytime he dies the sword logic transplants his old eyes to put in the middle of the other two.

6 RepliesHe was described as dutiful, and completely devoted to making offerings to the Shrines of Oryx. This makes me believe that he was given extra power as a result. Oryx has been "taking" for thousands of years, so it wouldn't be a prototype, but it could be the same energy.

Oryx had followers that were not taken. Sardok could have been one of them. Ecthar wasn't a taken either, but was clearly a commanding presence under oryx

Seeing as Oryx has been taking for billions of years, there's no way he failed to take something.

I believe he was infused with the same energy oryx had but never really had as much.
