The Flood possess a host by tapping into their brain waves, but Boren's Syndrome makes the waves jumbled and random. Coupled with Johnson's legendary asswhacking skills he made it out alive. Granted, he could not have been a host because of the SP I Augmentations, or Boren's Syndrome, but why did he not suffer from some other side effect? Surely some other type of damage should have been done.
He does have traces of the flood in his DNA. Halsey had all the information documented, but if I remember correctly, John destroyed it.
But that still doesn't explain how he survived. Was it one of the augmentations he received or was it something else? Considering he traces of flood in his DNA only make me question his survival more. I realize that he is mother -blam!- Sargent Johnson, but what kept him alive and not flood food?
everyone keep on quoting this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Sp4rksLT 1st, it's because he had Spartan 1 augmentations. The Boren's Syndrome might be another thing, not used by ONI to cover it up. He might really have it. He also smokes cigars. And ofcourse, the ingredient which made him survive - 9001% of badass.
good point
Posted by: Wisdoman xm32 the fact that he smokes so many cigars that the infection forms did not want to infect his unhealthy body.
It must be this, the proto Gravemind obviously picked up on the fact that Sgt Johnson had an unhealthy lifestyle and decided not to infect him through fear that the Gravemind himself may become a chain smoker.

I have always wanted to "beated' a game.... Anyway, its cuz he's Johnson (aka Chuck Norris) 'Nuff said
-
Wow this is so obvious. Cerberus revived him with thier newly developed lazerus project. JK, LOL It is all explained in halo: first strike, and halo: the flood.
-
Personally, I never knew how Sergeant Johnson actually survived the flood the first time at all.
-
hes a spartan one with a disease thats why and because hes just BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASSDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Halosopher I thought it was cool how he just 'survived' at the end of halo and in halo 2 you have no Idea how, but he's there. I thought it was great ;) MP
The book Halo: First Strike tells you how Johnson survived. He escaped on a Pelican with Corporal Locklear, Shelia Polaski and Lieutenant Haverson.
Posted by: westpointusma15 How did he survive the original Halo? since it blew up and all?
*SPOILERS* He escaped on a pelican along with an ONI officer, an ODST and obviously a pilot. Details can be found in First Strike.

Boren's Syndrome is a cover-up ONI used to disguise the identity of members of the ORION Project (aka Spartan I Project). The name speaks for itself: Boren's Syndrome There is no point where it is even suggested Johnson got infected (the Graphic Novel even states he wasn't), he just fought his way out.

Augmentations from becoming a Spartan I made it impossible for flood to infect him. Idk how though. The various chemicals probably altered his nervous system beyond the point of flood compatibility when they tried to decrease reaction time in them.

Dont qeustion Sgt. Johnson...

He doesn't have Boren's syndrome, and he didn't let any infection forms near him, so he was safe from infection. He was just a bad ass mother-blam!- Spartan I, so he got out alive.
-
When I read the books I was deathly ill, so most of what I was reading didn't register. Was glad to have them to keep sane, though.
-
What people are saying here is correct about Borrens Syndrome, but, i thought the whole disease was a cover up for im being part of Project ORION(Spartan I Project), Meh, maybe im just confused, been while since i read the books...

Sgt. Johnson always remembers to take his antibiotic prescription until it's finished, even if he's feeling better.
-
The Flood could not posses him because of his amazingly intense unadulterated buttwhooping awesomeness. The flood was not nearly stupid enough to attack him. The flood knows that you dont kill Sgt. Johnson, Sgt. Johnson kills you.
