What games would you be content with if they had sad endings? Like Force Unleashed when Galen Marek died at the end.
A Game that come to mind for me would have to be:
Gears of War 3, the ending was too cliche and 4 people taking on an army is even worse. If the Locusts won I'd be okay with it because pressing a button to take away all your problems for good is just lazy.

Sad endings work for some games but not for others. Games like Silent Hill could run with sad endings as canon rather than alt endings. It's okay to kill people off, not everyone but one or two that players have built a connection with. It's expected in Silent Hill, give us the feels. Resident Evil is another that needs to kill off some of the "big" names. Leon really needs a big heroic death, maybe Jill too. Ada is one of my favourite characters but she needs to die. She gets in too much shit to keep surviving. Mass Effect 3 should have canned the cop out ending with it's happily ever after. Sheperd should have died, the end. He/she won't be in a Mass Effect game again so it wouldn't have mattered. Whoever was in your party at the end should have died. Having the Normandy land in that battle was bullshit.

3 RepliesPretty much any game with an actual storyline. It's a cliche to always have a happy ending where everything works out. Sure, it's nice to see that your in-game actions had a positive effect, but that doesn't mean that it has to be a sunshine and rainbows for everyone. For instance, in Mass Effect 2 if you didn't gain everyone's loyalty you'd still complete the game, but one or more squadmates could die.

3 RepliesThey should kill off Master Chief at the end of Halo 6, make it incredibly hardcore, have Cortana collapse on the ground realizing that it's her fault that Chief died.
I'm evil.
1 ReplyI think it depends. I'm love happy endings when you actually have the feeling of being in peril. If you feel like you're never in danger it takes away the relief of making it out alive. On the other hand, I hate deaths that feel artificial like they just needed to kill off a character. Like I hate scenarios where you get Murphy's law, and the only solution is self-sacrifice. It's just too predictable.

2 RepliesRed Dead Redemption. I would be OK with it if Jack didn't become an outlaw and ruin John's legacy.

Dark souls 3 Having everyone bow to me is great but not the ending i was looking for. The trailers for the fire fades led me to believe the whole cycle was coming to an end and there would be no more rekindling the fire. I believe i read somewhere that you were the antagonist not the chosen undead. I would have liked to have had a ending where you take the fire and the chosen undead fights you for it and he loses. Best ending like that was the "put out the fire" ending... but then she hints the fires would rise again :/ basically moot

Twilight princess, not an ending persay but instead of Midna barely making it, it would be more emotional if she didn't make it and lonky kicked Ganon and zants ass hardcore

11 RepliesHalo 6 should have The Arbiter die while saving or protecting Master Chief. He should die with honor in a glorious battle.
And -blam!- you I loved the ending of Gears 3.
1 ReplyHalo 5, chief dies

2 RepliesHalo 6, imo, hopefully will have an alt. Ending. One where if you fail at the last part in the final mission, Cortana will win and the galaxy will fall under her rule forever. You would have to restart the mission to get the base ending.

ME3 had a sad ending. That is all. -
I really wanted Uncharted 4 to have a sad ending. A real sad ending, as in somebody really close to Nate dying.
don't get me wrong, I love the game and I also love the ending, but a death could have put me in tears...
