I want to get gud with the snip snipes but I heard it's a bad idea to practice sniping in crucible. I'm pretty good in pve but that's because the enemies are so predictable, they stand still, and they have giant heads/crit zones.
I also noticed I do better with the omolon type semicircle reticles; the 1k stare's reticle is difficult if not impossible to see on bright backgrounds. I just got the unflinching perk too which I really like but I heard it was nerfed in pvp? What other perks are good and what other snipers have that semi-circle reticle, the eirene sr4?
So what are your ideas? How did you become an efficient sniper? I'm thinking of maybe challenging myself in pve and only going for enemies that are moving or in close quarters, things like that. in crucible, I could equip a strong primary and only go for snipes from a safe angle and give up if I don't get it instead of running around the entire match with the stare like I normally do when I "practice." (Went 2-20 on frontier last time, one body shot and a miracle point blank hard scoped headshot to the back of the head lol).
Let me know what u guys think so I can headshot u in return, that way u know u gave good advice : p

Get a great roll on a sniper...that's about it the weapon does the rest (this is obviously a joke don't get angry people).

BEST WAY TO PRACTICE SNIPING. 1. Dismantle all snipers on account 2. Get a decent shotgun 3: run around and have some fun
-
If you actually need practice to snipe in destiny you probably shouldn't be sniping at all buddy.

HOW TO SNIPE!!! Step 1: Buy the BenQ RL2455HM Monitor (180 USD). Step 2: Adjust your Sensivity (For Sniping 2,3 or 4 is Recommended). Step 3: Know your Angles. Step 4: Use your Teammates as Bait. Step 5: Be Proud of having a high Elo and Kd in Trials like a Pussy just like me. HOW TO GET GOOD!!! Step 1: Change your Button Layout to Jumper Step 2: Go to Playstation Settings > Accessibiltiy > Button Assignment > Swap R3 and O. Step 3: Buy a Scuf (Only if you have enough Money, not necessary at all!) use Square for left Paddle and O for Right Paddle. Step 4: Buy Kontrol Freeks (15 Usd). These things are VERY helpful and Required for Competitive Gaming. Step 5: Watch Youtubers Like TrueVanguard and SirDimetrious (Not necessairly because they are the best of the best, TrueVanguard is not Tier 1 for example but still has a great deal of knowledge about the game and explains it in a clear way. NOTE: Without A Monitor You'll Most Likely NEVER Get Top 2000 Elo/ A Tournament Player!!! HOW TO SWEAT: Step 1: Put on an OP Hand Cannon Like Thorn or Eyas Luna. Step 2: Please don't use a Sniper in Sweats. Just don't. Step 3: Find 2 Players who are slightly better than you and willing to play with you. Never peak first AND don't push first and clean up kills so you'll look impressive on the leaderboard. Step 4: When you're just as good as your other 2 Sweaty Friends, ditch them and find 2 better players. Step 5: Do Step 4 OVER AND OVER again. Step 6: Don't do Step 4 and 5 if you're looking to have fun in this game. HOW TO SHOTGUN!!! Step 1: Put on Matador/Felwinters Lie/ Party Crasher Step 2:Stay high in the air. Step 3: Always throw a nade before engaging. Step 4: Don't push if they want you to. If you have any more questions , just ask. This is how I got 2200 Elo And a friends list of well known people. Let the salt flow.

Perks I tend to like on snipers triple tap, hidden hand, firefly, life support, rodeo. Also with the right kind of sniper surplus is nice over having limited ammo

Edited by Artimise Flare: 8/14/2016 1:44:47 PMI'm not a pro, and I don't snipe as often as I used to these days in PvP, however, I do have some tips that may help. Brace yourself, this is going to be a LONG post. You've been warned. There are two facets that make a good sniper (Or just a better player in general), in order of importance. - Positioning/Game skill - Gun Skill Positioning/Game skill As it is with most things regarding Destiny PvP, to effectively fight enemy players, it's all about location, location, location. Positioning is key, and requires you to understand where the common "sniper" lanes are on a map. Even semi experienced players will know some of the more common/obvious areas where snipers like to take up perch (A good example is the ruined building close to B flag special ammo spawn on Widows court. From this spot, you can head glitch and have a decent LoS to A flag's heavy spawn) You want to limit how many angles the enemy has on you, and force them into a "cone" out in front of you if at all possible, effectively creating a "beaten zone" or "kill zone" where the enemy must challenge you while entering your scopes field of view, and only that field of view. How you maneuver around the map is extremely important for you to improve both as a sniper and just overall as a player in PvP. Truevanguard has two excellent videos talking about this, which you may watch here.
Controlling the Engagement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7rqEXYhGEE Movement is key: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zd1N006qdk
Mtashed, while the video is pretty dated, covers the idea between Game skill vs Gun skill quite well in this video, which you may find here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvzcbHKOpfs&index=13&list=PLVHacqixRV3Eo83gPpSesKjfkzlFRLwK1
Once you have this, you can develop tactics, know when it is wise to push and when it is time to flee. Players with higher "gun skill" can push aggressively with a sniper rifle, and still come out on top, since they have the "mechanical" skills to do so (ie. Quickly scope in CQC, and land a head shot). Nothing we advise can help you develop your gun skill in a meaningful way per say, however, there are things that you CAN practice doing on your own. Gun Skill The first I recommend is learning how to "pre-aim". What do I mean by this? Pre-aiming is when you visually center your target on your screen, or as close as you can, before you Aim Down Sights (ADS). This reduces the time it takes for you to acquire, line up your reticule and take the shot. Coolguy covers this very topic in a video of his, which you may watch, here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ78viT0c8U
To practice this, I recommend going to Venus. Once you spawn in, head directly left from the spawn to the "Ember Caves". Practicing landing only head shots while scoping in on the Fallen here. The Fallen vandals especially, are roughly the same height as a Guardian, and both the Dregs and Vandals heads are about the same size as a guardians as well. I like this area since it offers a wide variety of different sight lines, and the mobs spawn relatively quickly with minimal movement between "pod" to "pod" of enemy mobs, making grabbing extra special ammo between them easier. With that in mind, I must say that nothing, and I mean NOTHING will prepare you completely for how to snipe effectively in PvP other than actually getting out there and doing it. It has taken me countless hours of playing, analyzing and playing some more to get where I'm at now. Even so, I'm just average at best. Weapons As far as weapons are concerned, the current meta favors Sniper rifles that fall within the 31 Impact 19 ROF. This includes the infamous 1000-Yard Stare, LDR 5001, Y-09 Lonbow Synthesis and to a lesser extent, the Eirene RR4 Why these specific rifles? They all strike a good balance between Rate of fire impact and aim assist. (The exception going towards the Eirine RR4, which has the lowest base aim assist between the 4 rifles of 21, as opposed to AA values of 56 (1k stare), 64 (LDR 5001) and 68 (Y-09 Longbow Synthesis) respectively) Further more, if you get into game modes that have the option to revive players, you can perform the infamous "res snipe", since their impact values are high enough to do this. You may look up the specific weapon stats and what perks are possible to roll on them at Planet Destiny's database or the Bungie armory 1000-Yard Stare Planet Destiny:
http://db.planetdestiny.com/items/view/1703777169
Armory:
https://www.bungie.net/en/Armory/Detail?type=item&item=1703777169&itemname=1000-Yard%20Stare
LDR 5001 Planet Destiny:
http://db.planetdestiny.com/items/view/1200540134
Armory:
https://www.bungie.net/en/Armory/Detail?type=item&item=1200540134&itemname=LDR%205001
Y-09 Longbow Synthesis Planet Destiny:
http://db.planetdestiny.com/items/view/1200540135
Armory:
https://www.bungie.net/en/Armory/Detail?type=item&item=1200540135&itemname=Y-09%20Longbow%20Synthesis
Eirene RR4 Planet Destiny:
http://db.planetdestiny.com/items/view/3629543169
Armory:
https://www.bungie.net/en/Armory/Detail?type=item&item=3629543169&itemname=Eirene%20RR4
Fallout plays has an excellent video that shows which snipers can and cannot do this after the April 2016 Patch, which you may watch here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMmiBJjscXs
For perks and general suggestions, about scopes, Patrick Casey (Holtzmann) from Planet Destiny covers this admirably in his "State of Sniper Rifles" video, which you may watch here. I hear shooting things with bullets works. But what do I know

Edited by RainYui: 8/14/2016 1:49:21 AMI legit ran around in the crucible maining a sniper and failing for a while till I got gud

Edited by Wolf_Odinson: 8/14/2016 5:22:36 AM1) Grab your favorite sniper 2) Head to Skywatch (Earth) 3) As you enter Skywatch; just up the stairs on the right, there are abandoned helicopters and straight ahead of them is a rock outcropping (above a Fallen spawn cave) 4) Get up on top 5) Wait patiently for "The enemy is moving against each other" to kick off 6) Targets, targets everywhere; of all movement types Or 7) Wait for "Taken forces are corrupting the area" Taken Thralls teleport and Taken Psions split into copies of themselves, so not static targets Edited to correct misinformation

Best way to practice? Get in the crucible and snipe some noobs.
-
As much as I hate sniping, the best way is to just grab a sniper that you like the feel of and just use it in crucible with a low sensitivity. Try to go only for snipes and to challenge yourself. Eventually, you'll get the hang of it. Alternatively, you can look up truevanguard on youtube and watch his "sniper school" series of videos. Very helpful.
-
If you want to snipe then youll just get sh!t for it. Use a sidearm or something thats not meta.
-
Git gud at the game u frikin screb
-
Don't. Sniping is bullshit in this game and you shouldn't endorse it.
-
Depends on what type of sniper you want to be. Aggressive, semi-agressive, passive. Aggressive, never have your crosshair below upper chest area and account for elevation changes AKA map knowledge is key. Also have fast reflexes. Semi-agressive, you would ideally like to advance to a top mid area if you can, if you want to be there fast, play like aggressive for that time. If you want to ease your way in, watch likely places they'll be on the way there. Follow that if you want to move places. Passive, get to a place and hard scope lanes for the match. Gets kills, not socially liked
-
As a first step to begin to improve is to stop thinking that to be a good sniper you have to get a headshot every time you shoot. Watch Twitch streams and observe how many times good snipers miss, especially in Trials where the action is very fast paced.
-
Practice with a high RoF low impact sniper. It will make you better at hitting someone's head.
-
Get a Gozen-C and just keep using it til you can consistently land shots.
-
Keep doing it over, and over, and over until you get it.
-
Practice. Go into different game modes and PvE to just snipe things. Just stick with one sniper.
-
Watch TrueVanguard's channel
-
Just pick up the longbow and reap its rewards.
Seriously I'm sick of getting killed by magic bullets curving around corners from longbow
Patrol around the sky watch and snipe hive and fallen in the head. When I was learning I would just play control until I was getting a good number of sniping kills and then I did skirm to truly test my skill. I eventually became pretty good and played rumble with a sniper. That is the ultimate test. But it took me a week to get decent and then another week to get pretty good. My skill level has increased since. It's not hard to get good but I would play crucible to practice.
-
Use a sniper rifle and shoot people with it by aiming it at them and pulling the trigger button. Aim for the head. Done.
