I thought the saying was "the customer is always right"
Having worked as a chef, then a retail manager, and now a game balance designer (don't ask), I can tell you that that saying is what service people tell you is right. What we really generally say after being confronted with that is more the customer always thinks they are right on good days, the customer is always an asshole when things have gone more south. It's not a fair statement, no matter which one you choose, really. Either you get everything you want, no mater the cost to me or if it's a long-term good thing, or you only get what I give you, no matter if it's even remotely what you want.
On the one hand, I like the idea of options and customization, and just generally feeling like we have a part in shaping the game. On the other hand, I understand that the balance and encounter teams have a job to do, and the elemental primaries might be a big stumbling block for a reason that we can't see. Granted, it would be nice to be told what that reason was so we could stop barking up the wrong tree, but studios are notoriously close-mouthed about reasons like that for things they do. Generally speaking, I'd like it to be a more open discussion than it is now. Bungie wants one thing, we want another (so to speak), and we have to strain for the middle of that distance to get anywhere.
