Spinfoil hat theory for Rise of Iron

We know that the Speaker and Vanguard have, at times, literally removed some history from Tower and City archives.. I think we will find out that Saladin is hiding the true fate of the other NINE IX Iron Lords... and they did not, in fact, die. Perhaps their sacrifice causes them to be exposed to and infected by SIVA, and they were not safe to return to the city. Just a theory i've been tweeting and posting about for a few months.. Mostly based on stuff the Speaker says if you stand next to him long enough .. like 'if only the Nine would help us' and because it would be just like Bungie to give us a big plot twist. We know the Nine stay out by the Jovian moons and are 'more machine than man' based on the limited flavor texts, Xur quotes, and minimal grimmoire... They seem to want to help us by sending us weapons each week... And i think every reference that i can find of the original Iron Lords mentions 'sacrifice' not death. That can be infection/fusion that occurred during the battle with SIVA.. Lord Saladin somehow wasn't infected and so was allowed to return to the city... But he bears the secret. Just a theory, probably wrong, but bringing it up (again) for discussion... And for help... If you know of a specific grimmoire that states that the Iron Lords 'died' then please link so I can put this spinfoil hat away once and for all. Edit: sorry for any typos, spelling or grammar... Ill try to go back tomorrow to correct. Edit: remember that Xur is not a 'Nine'...he is merely an agent of the Nine Edit: reading some of these 'the Nine are the Ahamkara' theories out there, i think the greatest argument against MY theory is that we know that the Nine released Skolas... I can't reconcile any reason why former guardians might do this.. Can u? Unless someone can give me a plausible explanation for why the Iron Lords would release Skolas i am going to conclude my theory to be debunked... For now. Thoughts? Last edit: the Game Informer article today specifically states 'deceased Iron Lords' Which effectively kills this theory. Thanks everyone who chimed in!!

  • Who knows we think osiris to be dead yet there are still rumors yet that he lives. A couple possible theories why they may release shim is because 1 they are still mad at the queen and uldrin. 2 the siva is a corruption.. they could be brainwashed over it to not be able to perfectly see the line between right and wrong 3 they wanted to see what we would do in reaction. By catching skolas we effectively prooved we were able to do what the queen couldn't thus making us stronger. I have wondered if the 9 and iron lords were 1 in the same since realising the numbers matched. If it was the 7 and only 7 iron lords that would be instantly debunked just because bungie loves 7 so i would understand but them both being 9.... i think you are on to somethink mate.

    • One thing, there are only Nine Iron Lords, not Ten. 1-Radegast 2-Felwinter 3-Jolder 4-Skorri 5-Timur 6-Silimar 7-Gheleon 8-Efrideet(may be alive) 9-Saladin(Iron Banner)

      • This was a nice theory. Even though, GameInformer states that they are deceased, we have yet to see proof for ourselves(I like to take their say with a grain of salt).

      • Even if this turns out to be true and the Iron Lords are infected, I'm pretty positive that they would rather die than being infected, and not all 9 Iron Lords died defeating SiVA, some of them died during the Battle of Twilight gap, so this theory is a no go.

      • I would like to add to your theory in a different way. Don't give up just because of a simple setback like death. Respawns happen all the time! So, I will name 9 things 1. Mercury 2. Venus 3. Earth 4. Mars 5. Jupiter 6. Saturn 7. Uranus 8. Neptune 9. Pluto Could it be that there are 8 other watch towers with 8 other iron lords who have guardians competing in their own crucibles? It makes sense with the sword logic. As well as with the worm feeding. Our ghost is sort of like the worm as well, opening doors and telling us where to go!

Even if debunked, I like it! Good job. Now, let me see your theory and raise you a new one. It would seem, based on some designs, that the SIVA virus was contained in a warmind's vault (like rasputin's seraphim vault). And so, my theory is... The SIVA infected a warmind and the fight to the core to destroy it will be the raid!!! Thoughts? I think the only think that can debunk it right now is that it is believed that all the warminds except rasputin fell in the collapse.

          • Your theory hits a snag. There were only 9 Iron Lords with Lord Saladin being among them.

I found a compilation of grimoir cards and comments by Zur on the 9: Simplified the 9 are Humans Awoken Exo Fallen Hive Warmind Vex Cabal And taken All in one. They pretty much are a genetic combo of the 9 main species in destiny Edit: because they are part vex they can time travel. They are our future

                    • That would be cool, but somehow I always pictured the nine to be some kind of cosmic entities. That said, I was also wondering if we would have the iron lords as bosses in the new raid / strikes

                      • Getting infected by something isn't sacrifice. They may have been infected while sacrificing themselves to stop the plague but being left behind because they were infected isn't sacrificing themselves.

                          • I think that the kings would definitely be involved with the rise of iron. You know where the part in the stream when they're in the rocketyard to check out that hole in the wall but they turn around? That area is pretty much right next to the house of kings lair and the devils couldve possibly found a new way to breach the kings lair. Thats just my opinion though.

I was thinking about that actually, I don't think they are dead, but I never thought of them being the IX. I'm more or less thinking that at one point in time we may have to fight them, well some of them (I assume that some of them did die) I think if they were corrupted Saladin wouldn't just let them leave. As far as sacrifice goes, the way I see it in my head is a few got corrupted and wanted to leave...the sacrifice was made by the others that stayed to make sure the didn't get out.
