This is kind of an expansion on an old thread I made ages ago requesting customized gamepad layouts/configuration. Most people here have played other FPS games, so I was wondering if YOU had the option to personalize YOUR OWN gamepad layout, would you keep the current Halo 3 method of scope zoom (clicking in the thumb stick) or would you change it?
PS Scope zoom toggle is similar to how the crouch toggle works, you can either press the thumb stick in and hold for zoom, then let go to zoom out. Or the current Halo 3 method of single click for zoom, you can let go and the zoom will remain active.

i use green thumb. but i would love a personalized control setting.
Posted by: SilentStorm20
Posted by: Uncle Kulikov Make it an option.
^This It's a very popular control setup in other games, and it's always nice to be able to switch between games without remembering too many new controls. Especially for casual players, who tend to switch between games most often. Personally, I like the scope on the thumbstick. I don't think anything else works well there, and I like the trigger to throw grenades. It may just be that I've been playing Halo since CE, though. :)
Yeh I completely agree, for casual players or people who like to pick up and play being able to customize controls to a universal control scheme would be great, eventually as you get better you discover other control schemes that are more effective (at least that was the case for me moving from default to bumper jumper).

I stick too much and use grenades too much in Halo to use anything but a trigger to throw them. CoDs 'nades got annoying to throw, although the ADS system works for it. I vote Thumb Stick Scope!
Posted by: A 3 Legged Goat You want to Hold to Zoom instead of click to zoom? That will make sniping very tedious... I don't use hold to crouch because it's much easier to click and free up your thumb
=O but that halves your teabagging speed OT: click to zoom for me, its much easier to aim and move around while in scope that way.
Posted by: TheDonBarracuda
Posted by: DeamonSitri i love the current setup, and we already have hold to zoom, not many people i know know of it, but it is there, you can unzoom the sniper from 10X to 5X if you don't release the stick
For real? Can't believe I played this game for so long and not noticed that lol
i'm surprised so many people don't know about it, i found it by accident myself though
Posted by: Jakey232 Click thumbstick is still better also that frees other buttons that are being used for something else. Default is better
Just had a strange thought, changing to left trigger scope would move grenade throwing to thumbstick.

I really like the thumb stick. As in the left thumbstick. Not BioShock right thumbstick aim down the sights. That was really stupid 2K.

Make it an option.

Any game I've played with trigger aim/zoom is a game with blind fire. Call of Duty, Gears of War, Borderlands etc. Halo is an old-school FPS with the reticle always visible. A trigger zoom sounds rather clunky, confusing and unnecessary to me.

Depends on the style of game. In an arena shooter of which halo is derived of where only a handful of guns have a zoom and accuracy is independant zooming in, I like the click toggle. In a typical shooter in which every gun has a zoom (even if theres no scope; think Aim Down Sight) and accuracy depends on being scoped, I prefer a hold-trigger option as it allows me to jump in and out faster than click toggle. Basically it depends on the amount of ADS/zooming is necessary for the game and even when constantly sniper whoring like I do in Halo, there's relatively very little scoping in/out. Hold-click is just awful though and click-trigger usually means the controller is not being properly utilized. [Edited on 04.01.2010 1:22 AM PDT]

I've gotten too used to default. The only thing I change in FPS's is the look inversion.
