Is Warframe the game Destiny is trying to be?

The other day a couple of my friends had twisted my arm to finally download "Warframe". Even though it's been out for a while I was reluctant to download it because I already play some grind type games like Warthunder, and couldn't help think "Haven't I suffered enough?" I'm also pretty old school, and having characters that look like the monsters I've grown up shooting doesn't exactly appeal to me. But after playing a couple days now, I feel pretty silly for not playing this over a year ago. It turns out I was wrong and it's a pretty great game. I know what you're thinking "Cool story Bro, but this is Destiny feedback" ...Well I'm getting to that part. The similarity between these two games is IMHO pretty obvious, except Warframe is a Space RPG MMO, done right, and well Destiny is the most expensive game ever created. And even though they don't want to admit it, just like Battlefield has been in competition with CoD for your super soldier admiration. So has Destiny, and Warframe for your super space knight love. Both games have let say borrowed influences from other Sci-Fi franchises. Playing Warframe I couldn't help notice the background music reminds me of Mass Effect. And the enemy's called the "Infested" are similar to Halo's own "The Flood" in even the way they behave. Though to be fair Warframe is somewhat a sequel to the game Dark Sector, borrowing heavily from it. With Destiny you can't tell me that there's not elements like the Cabal are not Space Marines! Heck they even have the Sargent symbol on them, why would aliens have that? But at the same time Destiny is trying to bring the Warframe experience to you and failing miserably at it. This is a huge amount of SPECULATION from me, but I'm starting to wonder exactly what happened way back in 2013 in Destiny's development. We've all heard the story's where the test group found the story too predictable which sent Bungie into a story slashing frenzy. http://kotaku.com/the-messy-true-story-behind-the-making-of-destiny-1737556731 But what if that isn't the whole story? I don't believe it's not a coincidence that Bungie was in a mad panic at approx the same time Warframe was being released onto PS4. What I believe may have happened is that the higher ups looking at Warframe had a heart attack. The similarity's were so overwhelming that someone in the legal dept was scared to death of getting sued! Which caused many original elements of the game to be taken out. For instance in the Original Destiny, you're an covert agent working for the Crow. In Warframe you too are a covert agent. So the covert agent idea was scraped out of Destiny. Just look at some of the original Destiny concept art, http://i.imgur.com/qnaUsvf.jpg and tell me it doesn't look a little bit like Warframe. In fact if you google Warframe concept art, along with Destiny it's pretty hard to tell them apart. http://conceptartworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Destiny_Concept_Art_05b.jpg (Dang it Bungie it's been 3 years, where's our giant toads battling with magical space Yoda's!!!) At the same time I believe Activision, which has been dying to get into the FTP market for a while. (They have spent billions buying King makers of Candy Crush just to do so). Seeing Warframe, and it's micro transactions they said "Hey this is exactly the game we've been looking for, why can't you make Destiny more like this" And suddenly the pressure was on to shake players by ankles for that extra loot...*cough* I mean revenue. So lets talk similarity's that aren't my imagination, and how it's done better by Warframe. 1) Ships: Your ship is your loading screen. Destiny has dozens of ships to chose from. Warframe only has a few, but did I mention you spend a lot of time INSIDE them. You can decorate, re-color, and re-skin them. Some ships have different ability's to help you in battle. 2)
Ability:
Destiny has class ability's, and certain armors have special powers. Warframe the different frames have different ability's, but you collect and power up Mods to make your load out unique. You can also customize your appearance with different colors at will. The mods are a bit RNG. 3) Social spaces. Destiny has the Tower among others. You can join factions, buy junk from the gunsmith, get missions, and kiss Xur's boots when he shows up. Warframe, has Relays! Where you have syndicates instead of Factions. Pretty much the same right? Except Warframe has a market, where you can buy, TRADE, and sell your old gear. 4) Communication: Warframe has text chat, and decent in game audio chat. Or you can use PS4 chat. It's not uncommon to see players talking to each other in the Relay. Destiny almost has no chat. Emotes in Warframe are mostly free, and you can use them on the fly. Destiny only has the one, that you have to re-equip to change. 5) Matchmaking: Warframe you can go solo, friends only, or random public (Even in PVP). And if you want to tag along with your much higher experienced friend on a mission way too hard for uber loot you can! Destiny hates the idea of optional matchmaking, while trying ram SBMM down our throats. 6)Guns: Destiny has rare guns, that you hope and pray RNG will gift you, but most of it is re-skined -re-hashed junk. Warframe you can buy, or build your fave gun! (Time consuming) but you collect mods to upgrade it the way you like. And there's a style for everyone. Not to mention Warframe has always had swords, Destiny may have added them to compete and fill in the gap to be more like Warframe. There's many more similarity I've noticed, but this is getting a bit TL;DR. So all I want to say is Why isn't Destiny a lot more like Warframe, since that's who they are obviously trying to be? If a smaller company can get trading to work, why can't Bungie with it's gigantic budget? I'm starting to believe that Bungie is focusing so deeply on PVP, because that's the only place were they feel that they can maybe out preform Warframe, in giving it's customers a unique experience.

  • Warframe is an amazing game, and the new quests they have added and are currently still working on are just LEAGUES better by comparison. When you play the "Second Dream" quest, you'll take a look at TTK and just be like "Damn...you got rekt, dude..." That was seriously the reaction I had to it. They're really fleshing out the story and I think the revealed truth about what the Tenno and Warframes actually are is just amazing. I had my suspicions about it and I'm thoroughly blown away by what they've done with it.

    • warframe is possibly the best example of how to implement micro transactions and that is something bungie and activision need to look at. When the prime access comes out people are hyped and that thing is 80 dollars!!!!!where as when bungie adds cosmetics you can hear the army of hate just around the corner. Matchmaking has a bunch of different arena designs for each planet (individual missions having multiple variations all their own.) ON top of that mini events(alerts) that offer rewards that go from currency to mats to stright up items that would otherwise only be obtainable through the real money currency(platinum) making them worth doing. the major events have worthwhile rewards and factions have truly unique rewards. Warframe IS pve focused because believe it or not cooperative play can be just as fun if you actually try... bungie I'm glaring as hard as I can at you. All the different character options from warframes too kubrows soon kavats(not sure if I spelled that one right) . You can alter the color of you character to a major degree you can get skins that cvan also have there color adjusted to armor and other accessories which can be altered color-wise. there is also build diversity with the mod system as well with 3 slots for presets if one takes the time to make them. There is major clan support from a clan housing to clan foundries where the clan combines resources to gain access to reallly good items that eliminates need for A lot of plat spending. There always feels like a reason to log on that isn't just a login bonus(which warframe has) but deals from discounts on items to alerts and a powerful player based economy there is always something to do.

They're not trying to be like Warhammer they're trying to stretch the content of a single vanilla game over the course of 2.5 years so that destiny 2 has a crazy amount of new features that they can promote and sell the game. The dreadnaught was in the og vanilla before it was cut, that came out as an entire dlc which they packaged as a new game essentially Destiny:the Taken King "Almost the game we would have released in the first place" BUNGIE

    • Warframe is incredibly satisfying to play which I feel would be important to add. Everything in reality, is free. I have a friend that only plays for free and he has everything my buddies and I have spent money on because we were able to help him accomplish a lot of what he needed to do to obtain these items very quickly. My weapons and frames are my unique builds that also look unique because of the excellent customization. I haven't seen a nekros that looks as evil as mine, nor have I came across one that can back up a team in survival the way I can with the build I have refined over months of testing. Oh idk of you mentioned it but, I can just take my nekros into PVP and slay because of the badass that he is... Just kidding, I can't take my nekros into PVP being the badass that he is because PVP and PVE have seperate systems that balance the game pretty well. There's certain weapons that work great against other players but might be slightly weaker in PVE, but you can mod them how you want and make them useful. Another very important piece is the fact that warframe updates are very often and the patch notes list is usually longer than my arm. DE works incredibly hard and takes immense pride in their game as well as their community. My favorite part about warframe is the fact that they listen to their community and build it into what they like. The community is friendly and helpful for the most part. They know What goes on with destiny and they are all glad they play warframe instead.

      • Warframe is a fantastic game, decided to go back to it when Bungie got too greedy, and decided to lock us out of content we already had. That's another thing Warframe does fairly. They do remove content, but if it's in your inventory you get to keep and use it. They don't watch you grind then take it all away.

      • Warframes definitely everythings Destiny is trying to be. Except its been slashed and fed to the market for MAX profit. Where Warframe focuses on actual gameplay and listening to thier fans.

        • Good post and while each game has its flaws, I'm more impressed with how much depth there is in Warframe...Warframe wants you to be OP and scales up some missions to stupid levels that you need top-tier gear to do it, and know how to use it. It all comes down to the mods and there are good guides on where to farms modes you need. I've got a lot of max level 30 gear but still get destroyed... Also there is a 50% off plat sale on PS4 atm and compared to the cost of Destiny, it's a good way to get into WF real fast.

        • Bungie started making destiny long before anyone knew about warframe. Bungie is well known for sci-fi shooters (halo) Most online games have special abilities. Destiny didn't copy warframe with swords. Swords have been in destiny since day 1 (sword of crota) the community enjoyed the Swords so bungie made them a permanent weapon. Destiny isn't pay to win either. You actually need skill to earn your gear. warframe is pay to win. Warframe is is third person and it's not a smooth third person shooter. Might better if it was first person. Of course some things will be alike. They're both MMOs despite bungie don't call it that. All MMOS have things alike.

              • I been holding back to because of the experience I've had with destiny. I'm going to download it tonight and go from there. I've heard a lot of good things about Warframe and knowing I'm not being over charged for lack of content is a nice feeling. I will never understand how a well known AAA company that makes millions can't even do half the job as a small company that makes a game for free.

                • Tried it over a year ago.. gfx were nice but the game itself was pretty same/same And i kept getting that annoying felling it was reaching for my wallet, i'd just left LOTRO for that type of F2P malarkey and decided i wasn't going to get attached to another cash cow. If i was to put my almost 2 weeks (as of this post) in destiny up against my 1st two weeks of warframe, warframe feels like a flashy android game in comparison.. looks nice. no weight or grit. There's just no comparison.. sorry.

                  • I find little in common, haven't played in ages though. Art-style, narrative, are miles apart. Gameplay in Warframe reminded me a lot more of Mass Effect, where weapon handling is definitely not the best part of the game ;P

Warframe isn't very new player friendly, I tried it for a few hours and was confused in every possible way. But what really turned me down was the ugly art design, somewhat reminds me of halo 5.

                                  • Warframe is fun, and the grind is meaningful, until you actually play a while and realize that it actually isn't fun and the grind is brutal, unless, of course, you pay some cash.
I'm starting to believe that Bungie is focusing so deeply on PVP, because that's the only place were they feel that they can maybe out preform Warframe, in giving it's customers a unique experience.
I will say this every -blam!-ing time until you imbeciles get it through your heads: Bungie, as a studio, is not focusing on PvP. If there were ~700 people working on PvP, we'd have received actual map packs, balance updates, and mode changes. RoI would be advertised for its PvP maps, not the Plaguelands and SHIVA. All you are seeing is the balance team releasing patches more frequently than the rest of the studio releases DLC.
