MIDNIGHT EXIGENT

What could Rasputin (maybe) have planned. In the sleeper simulant description. It states: "MIDNIGHT EXIGENT= still in progress." Now, exigent is an adjective that means pressing or demanding. So what is this plan? And, how does the gun tie in? EDIT: Read the grimoire and it seems as if Rasputin used available resources from dvalin forge and IKELOS. But the mystery still remains EDIT: Thanks for all the help. I was messing around in patrol and acquired a weapon that you can't use. You can only turn it in to the gunsmith for reputation. Anyways, it is called DVALIN(insert random letters and numbers here). Its description says it is part of the DVALIN_FORGE thing to arm humanity. Someone pointed out that Rasputin took a certain liking to our guardian, like allowing us in for sleeper simulant. Well, he's tried giving us weapons before.

  • =BEGIN TRANSMISSION= MIDNIGHT EXIGENT - A long-term counterattack protocol and moral structure change. All Warminds enter a period of extended deactivation in an effort to survive and later devise a countermeasure for an overwhelming threat. As of the Taken War, MIDNIGHT EXIGENT is still in-progress. =END TRANSMISSION=

  • Midnight exigent is simply his code word for the darkness attacking humanity. Some others mentioned the reformatting of Rasputin's moral structure. This was during the Collapse, he calculated that obeying the morals he was initially programmed with would not result in the successful defense of humanity, so he needed to override it. This is evidenced by his use of orbital weaponry to subdue the Traveler, as it attempted to flee the Earth and abandon mankind, then detonating it's light to push the darkness beyond the asteroid belt (resulting in the birth of the Awoken), and further evidenced by his disregard for Guardian life. "We sent a team in a few years ago. We found their bodies scattered all across the Skywatch." What's interesting is his interest in our Guardian. While he obviously doesn't like other Guardians, he repeatedly allows our character(s) access into his bunker, not just for defense, as seen in the SABER strike and a Dark Below mission, but to give us stuff, aka Sleeper Simulant and the stealth code. Why? What has changed his attitude towards our character? But not towards the rest of the Vanguard aka the other Guardians?

      • He realizes that his defense is not meeting the expectation of new threats so he used our love of loot and took assets from an outdated defense plan that was collecting dust and spit out the sleeper. And with that he accomplished 2 things: one we will leave him alone, and two, we help defend him even more

      • I just assume it meant producing weapons for Guardians. Ongoing means that the Sleeper Stimulant is the first of new equipment to come from Rasputin.

      • I believe, I could be wrong, Midnight Exigent was the plan that occurred when Ras changed his moral obligations and went into "Hibernation".

You can jump to the bold text for a quick answer. Remember Rasputin is basically a giant computer controlling a bunch of other weapons and computers. His names for things don't always represent plans--they will often represent programs, subroutines, variables, inputs, groups of conditions and anything that would be required in programming a computer. Ghost Fragment: Rasputin 3 appears to be a log of Rasputin engaging whatever code/protocol/program is named, "MIDNIGHT EXIGENT," so that's a good place to start. This grimoire card seems to be easily connected with Ghost Fragment: Rasputin 5. Based on the conditions set forth for a certain operation, LOKI CROWN, in Ghost Fragment: Rasputin 5, it looks to me like MIDNIGHT EXIGENT represents a shift to a new operating mode with different priorities regarding morality. Let me show you what I'm looking at below: From GF: Rasputin 5: If a CIVILIZATION KILL EVENT is underway [[all flexions]] If tactical morality is built at MIDNIGHT. ... GF: Rasputin 3 mentions a "HARD CIVILIZATION KILL EVENT is in progress," before stating, "Format moral structures for MIDNIGHT EXIGENT." TL;DR: So a MIDNIGHT code represents a change in Rasputin's operating state that involved changing his morality, and MIDNIGHT EXIGENT is possibly the program that makes the changes. It also likely happened a long time ago during the collapse (a civilization kill event) and it would be unclear if Rasputin is still operating this way. To get a better idea of the specifics you can read GF: Rasputin 5 but it looks to me like instead of trying to protect individuals, Rasputin has shifted to the much larger picture and no longer HAS to make attempts to protect lives, he can weigh other options. ... ... I don't know that I've ever read the Sleeper Simulant card before now and it seems to confuse things. My best guess for, "Operation MIDNIGHT EXIGENT is NOT YET COMPLETE," is that the way Rasputin's code is written, in order to, "Format moral structures for MIDNIGHT EXIGENT," Rasputin has to run an operation called "MIGNIGHT EXIGENT," and this takes a while. In the Sleeper Simulant card, "Interim response necessity is IMPERATIVE," for MIDNIGHT EXIGENT and in GF: Rasputin 3, "I am declaring YUGA SUNDOWN effective on receipt," might be referencing the receipt of the same response. I can't tell if the two cards represent two entries in the same log and so could not have happened concurrently, or if the Sleeper Simulant entry happened in a log for a subroutine and they happened on top of each other. Either way I don't know how the gun itself is involved. My impression is these logs happened a long time ago during the collapse and I don't know when the gun was created.
