Ps4 in rest mode but makes humming/whirring sound?

It's did this for a while now. It's so annoying and I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem with their ps4?

  • Dude, the PS4 is so fucking loud. My Xbox One is silent. My PS4 is louder when it is off than my Xbox when it is on and running a game. I think it is just part of the design of the console.

    • Try cleaning the dust out of the vents and make sure it has breathing room. I took a mini vac to it and it made a huge difference.

    • I'd just turn it off. Make sure it's in a spot where it can breath. You don't have to hide it away in a cabinet like the eyesore 1.

      • I know mine makes a noise but I don't find it annoying. It's just that really dull humming noise of an appliance being on. Is it not supposed to make any noise?

        • Something might be caught in the fan. Try getting a can of keyboard duster and use it on the fan. My fan was loud but I cleaned it with a duster and now it's a lot quieter.

          • I do this with my PS4 and I think everyone should. Rebuild Database. This cleans out your PS4 and makes it run better, it doesn't delete all you content but it cleans out the junk like cache. How you do it is put your PS4 into safe mode by hold the off button on your PS4 for about 10 seconds and you will hear a beep. Connect your controller and scroll down to "Rebuild Database". This might take less than 5 min or an hour, it all depends. For me it takes a few minutes and then my console runs fine after.

          • Work out where the noise is coming from - fan, hard drive Test to see the cause - cool down after long play, downloads Check to see if it's in warranty - just in case you end up needing a repair Monitor it - see if there is a change with time Overall the console may just be making the sound to cool itself down (especially in summer) and if it's doing downloads you will likely be able to hear the hard drive That all being said with some cases of odd things with a console for one person will be ok where as with another they will have more problems

          • Rest mode means it's still on and still doing running the game you were playing last just it's paused. If you want it to stop then turn it off

          • I have the day 1 Ps4, and I've been running into so many problems. The latest one makes my Ps4 randomly beep and eject disk, even when it's off. I'll have to crack it open and twist a screw or something. Bleh.

          • Try turning it off, maybe? You should only put it in rest mode if you are leaving >3 hours or want to download something overnight. My PS4 hardly ever makes any noise, aside from the satisfying sound of the disc drive spinning when I first start playing a game. It's the quetist consoles I've ever owned.

          • Blow the thing out. It's like that because it's working overtime to cool down. Or turn the thing off once in a while.

          • I never leave the ps4 in rest mode and I hate that it's the quickest shutdown option and you have to cycle the menu to get to actual shutdown. I know you said you leave your controller charging but honestly a charge dock is easier to use and doesn't require wiring to the console. Leaving the system on even in rest just saps electricity for nothing aside from mildly faster startup. Fully shut it down and give it a break, having had costly consoles break from overuse taught me there's no reason to leave them on for extended periods.

            • Do you have a disc in? That could be it. It could also just be the fans spinning.
