I'd like to discuss the current state of offtopic.
For awhile now people have decided to post about politics and world issues. Then there's people who also like to discuss religion whether they're ridiculing it, praising it, or just discussing how it affects the world.
Back on the ol' bungie site of your mother jokes and stricter moderation there was a rule that banned all talk about political and religion discussion. Currently in Offtopic a good chunk of posts are political/religion talk but it is seeming to get worse and worse.
I personally would like to see the ban of all political/religion discussion to become a rule again. But I would also like to know what your opinions are on this and if this rule is necessary.

I know I'm guilty of putting some spin on things once in a while, but full-on arguments about politics and religion should be discussed on those kind of forums. Thanks, op!

Depends how bungie perceived the role of the Offtopic forum I guess. If the objective is to drain/contain political and religious threads (and other content or users that don't contribute to Destiny) into a single forum where they won't disrupt the other forums, then it seems to be working. If on the other hand it's supposed to ensure the bungie site is a one-stop shop where you can talk about anything and thus prevent users from leaving for other social media or private offsites, then you'd probably want stronger moderation to cut down on the shit-flinging or duplicate threads (to stop them driving people away) but still allow those threads to continue (so you don't drive away people who like posting that kind of thing).

2 RepliesAs a former BBS and forum host, I will tell you this is PRECISELY what Off-Topic is for. This is how you keep those forum discussions where they belong, otherwise that noise permeates all other threads.

I agree. I don't really see how any good can come from it given this particular climate. There are more than enough sites and locations people can visit to engage in argumentative, discussion or debate. Off topic shouldn't be a thing here.

If the title indicates to you a topic of religion or politics, simply scroll past it. You have that power. You are not required to read, comment, or click on anything you don't want to. And also, Bungie doesn't care what topics are brought up. If so, they'd be banning people left and right. Move on, man.

2 RepliesSome of the better ( more civilised ) forums that I visit also prohibit discussions on Politics and Religion simply because these are extremely hot topics and almost all discussions on these matter degenerate into name calling, flame baiting and blatant hatred and intolerance. Having said that, have you turned on the news recently. There is a lot of -blam!-ed up shit going on in the world right now ( France, Turkey, Donald Trump ). I won't begrudge anyone the right to discuss these matters as long as things remain civilised.

I didn't even realize there was an off topic tab, but religion and politics? Sounds off topic to me... Why seek something out just to say it's in your way? Perhaps these aren't the off topic posts you're looking for... but is the answer to this non-issue really a decree that states: "there can be no place for guardians to discuss religion and politics!"? Off topic is a small corner of free speech and discussion; making it a small corner of limited speech and restricted discussion seems just as divisive and exclusionary as religion and politics themselves. Perhaps we should be thankful that people engaged in our level of escapism have any concern over these true problems in our world.
